Looks like they have finally revealed what the new Steam Machines will look like along with specs and price ranges. To me personally as a primary a PC gamer I always want to take my PC rig with me but dont want to haul the giant ass thing around and potentially be damaged , same as a laptop, with Steam Machines, its small compact, and the price isnt that bad even for a basic Alienware model, which there are multiple vendors, at $479 though just a few bucks more than a XBone the specs still outperform Microsoft and PS by strides still , and no need to buy games just logging into your account instant game library. Im excited for these to hit November.

didn't they revealed how some of them at least will look like before? i assume they updated that along with steam controller.

the timing is right for them but the fact that they are using this many manufacturers is sorta stupid. it confuses the consumers that don't want to build their own PC and want to buy steam machines. the namings of some of them are also stupid. products like this should be given memorable names.

most of my posts are just my opinions they are not facts,it is the same for you too.

They really completely missed the mark with these

Theres so much variety theres no simplicity for console gamers or people who can't build their own PC, but theres to little on offer for people who are capable of building their own PC's

The offer should've been way more limited and have a simpler way to explain the performance these machines are capable of.

Seems absolutely pointless to get one of these as it stands.

The controller is garbage. That issue alone will cripple it's success.

    From the Gigabyte offering

"Intel® Iris™ Pro graphics 5200 which provides superior graphics performance needed for 3D gaming."

I think they're setting the bar a little to low.image

I agree, many of these systems are kind of underwelming. The beauty of a home-made gaming PC is that it does alot more than just gaming. Paying $2k for something just for games with no better guts than a gaming PC seems way over-priced.

Steam machines are not for people who build their own PCs. If you have a decent rig or have built your own, you don't need a steam machine, you just plug it into your TV.

Steam OS creates a standardized platform where game developers know there is a market base and it provides a level of DRM. This is what console OS's do, this is what PC gaming didn't have before Steam really got big.

These are basically small form PC's, it's fine that they have so many to choose from, we'll see the winners and losers soon enough we'll have 2-3 mainstays.

This incentivizes devs to put more games on PC (yeah yeah I know, people want that console filth off our precious master race computers) and it re-imagines the PC as a living room peripheral in the eyes of the average consumer (not us, we're not the target market here).

I think this will bring more people into PC gaming.

The steam link for $49 is what I'm looking forward too.

I will be getting the controller for sure.

I might be getting a Steam Machine once I need a new desktop because I really dont need Windows at home after a few years and I dont like Microsofts plans for gaming in the future.

as a side note these adds on this site are disgusting.  They keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I thought the point of steam machines was just to have a box that communicates over a network. Your existing computer is what renders out the graphics and actually plays the game. All it really needs to do is stream video.

I agree - this is more exciting than yet-another overpriced pre-built PC

That's what the Steam Link does exactly.

I fail to see the point of Steam OS or Steam machines. Our Windows PC is hooked up to our TV, all it takes is a HDMI cable.

Steam OS is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. And doing a pretty lousy job at it I feel.

What might come easy, logical, and quick to set up to you, or anyone else tech savvy, does not come easy for an Extraordinary amount of people for a myriad of reasons.

There are dozens and dozens of millions of people in the world, who would use a steam combo because it's easier, premade, faster, better, etc, ... (same as they would rather use consoles even if there weren't any exclusive games)

it's All about different points of view.

I don't like having a full computer in my living room. I like my computer at my computer desk, where I typically sit comfortably in an office chair at my keyboard and mouse.

But I still like to play on the big screen on occasion, with a gamepad. I currently happen to have a mac mini for a HTPC, and that is recent enough that it's able to support Steam In-Home streaming, but that machine is 5-6 years old by now, and it won't last forever. When it goes, it would be very nice to replace it with a $49 box, rather than needing a $500+ Steam Machine or HTPC again.

The $50 steam link is of course the best of both world, but it too requires someone to set up a basic home network :)
