CoV/CoH-style MMO

Looking for a new MMO.

The only real knock I had against CoX was that it was too group-focused, and they never really added diversity to the enemies (they could have added another boss or Lt. to some of the groups and not lost anything).

Other than that it was almost the perfect game.  Are there any current MMOs which have that magic combo of customization, diverse class options, neat story, and cool settings.  The instancing and sidekicking allowed  (and encouraged) grouping for better xp and better drops.  I also liked the adventure editor.  I even got into the crafting, sinking hours into chasing down rare components to make enchancements for powers.

Neverwinter would have held my attention, but they somehow managed to take a ruleset (4E) with many options and narrow them to a single set of powers for each class.  Possibly the single most vanilla powerset I've seen in an MMO.

GW2 has a lot of plusses and is probably my 'favorite', but it has zero reason to group or rewards for grouping.  Its basically a /faceroll difficulty level.  My friends and I would trio events at LVL +3 or LVL +4, and that would be challenging, but there was no real increased reward for increased difficulty.  The loots in GW2 are just super vanilla.  I now have oranges in most of my slots, and I can't even get excited about them over greens or blues.  The difference between them is so negligible and the ease of other trolling the auction house or using the world boss timer to fight a world boss for oranges/greens makes me not value them.  Once again, the world bosses don't even require grouping, you just stand around in a mob shooting/buffing/healing and wait for the inevitable.

I liked Rift, it had promise, but I quit after the third or fourth mission in the 1-20 zone where the storyline quest sent me to the wrong place, or I couldn't figure out where to go, or the quest was bugged... and this is in the early zone, which they probably polished more than most.  Well, I saw the writing on the wall and bagged.

I prefer not to pay a sub, I don't play that much.  But if its a nominal sub (10$/mo or 40$ for 6 mos. or somesuch) I could handle it.

I'm perfectly happy with a B2P, although I might like to try it out if its pricey.

I have been stuck MMO hopping for a long time as of late. I must say they are no longer interested in making games that are fun to play, just games that are cash grabs and cash pits. Its not the devs its the ones who pay for it. the market is flooded with cheap knock off MMOs. Even many of the ones that are AAA tittles all hype. The only place you will find a mmo in the spirit of old will most likely come from a indy developer looking to make a name. When you find one let me know.

Till them IMO: The classic  MMO is dead.

We need to label them more like we label everything else here in the USA... " MADE IN CHINA " and coming soon " MADE IN INDIA "
