Sadly I don't think RV has graphics to be the biggest or even a big MMO (not that they'd put me off) and great concepts don't equal a great game; it's all in the execution. Even Mourning and Horizons had some neat ideas and looked good on paper. I've given up looking over the horizon for the next big thing, all too often they disappoint.
Originally posted by Noubourne I am glad to hear a game is out there doing this. I look forward to seeing less jerks and gankers in the other games I play!! Thank you Roma Victor!! Best of luck!
You don't want gankers, don't play a PvP game, then all you'll have to deal with is annoying 13 year olds that like to cyborzors(Anyone got that EQ2 link? lol) trainers, and griefers. Don't want jerks...Commit suicide.
But how this is relavent to Roma Victor is beyond me.
"Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal."
I think people will be surprised by how many subs WoW is gonna lose the rate its going. They desperately need to do something to alleviate the tedium at the top end of the game. Its not about lack of content though - just the wrong content, and content you have to do 850328432 times to get anywhere, its frustrating - not fun.
Anyone currently playing, doing an that same instance for 20th time and gettin nowhere??
I agree this topic is a bold statement, but the original poster's opinion may have some weight. If the game is free to access and/or has a free access model where players can experience the game prior to buying, similar to the Runesacpe model then there is no reason this game can't reach 1M players in the next couple of years. Look at how poor RS is and that has over 500K players now (only 260K paying).
I also agree the main point isn't how many players a game attracts it's the quality of the gaming experience provided - I hope RV will provide an awesome experience.
marca1: Good point, the lack of subscription fee may do wonders ala Runescape. However, I think the client fee, (20 Euros was it?) will dampen the 'holy crap it's free' effect.
I personally believe RV will never become a major player in the MMOG scene, it's a self admitted niche game. There will be plenty of history buffs, a lot of mature players, and a few hardcore MMOGers who will be having a blast. But the majority of MMOGers are 'l33t' kids and grind-addicts who are so busy banging their heads on walls in WoW that they'll take a glance at RV, say: "TEH GRAFFIX SUCK" and go back to crunching numbers.*
Hell I'd much rather a niche community, with enough players to keep the game afloat and support RedBedlam.

Not just a sweeping generalisation, but plain wrong too. Roma Victor's graphics may very well end up being better then WoW's with all graphic effects turned on.
Originally posted by mcr525 Im a beta tester on RV and yes the graphics do suck but they are functional and will be improved. Sensibly the devs are getting the game to work 1st. However I havent had a lot of time to test the game which is a pain. What I have seen has a lot of potential. Thats all I can say really.
Actually, you're not even suppose to say that. Being a tester in Roma Victor means that while the NDA is in effect, you cannot, and should not reveal yourself to be a tester. The last individual to do this on these boards was removed from testing.

Listen to Kanoth for he is GOD! the game is going to have a really hardcore community and many rpers who dont really want to fight like me for example all i want to do is own a ranch

Exactly the reason your opinion is biased, and thus should not be counted. If you don't bother to look past the first page, or the graphics, or the small company, then I don't think I'd like to play with you.

Wouldnt you like the ability to:
1) Build your own tower?
2) Raze enemy town so the zerg would stop spawning there?
3) Make your adjacent town more powerful, so they wouldnt in their right mind attack you while you were afk for 30 minutes?
4) Cut off your enemy armies supplies by surrounding the town, and let your enemy starve to death instead?
5) Outflank your enemy?
6) Take advantage of a weak spot in your enemies defensive line, and exploit it?
7) Build a wall around enemy town, so they cant despawn, and then respawn 1,000 meters behind you and attack your rear using magical teleportation devices?

It's great to be able to come back to lame n00b comments - with undisputable, facts that whip yo ass & arguement. Nice post & what a comparison between games - nothing like & nowhere near RV.
Sad thing is this game is shaping up to appeal to the type of gamers found here on MMORPG.com and THAT is a bad thing for companies. Anyone with half a brain knows that if you want to be successful (as all companies do) you have to appeal to the masses. Making the mistake of combing these boards for input from vets is a 2 edge sword. Especially for a budding company. You can either get it right or crash and burn.
I'll admit that Roma looks to be a godsend compared to the other MMOs I've been playing but all the promised features and bells and whistles have been said before. I refuse to play bandwagoner to any of these companies BEFORE I see a game in action. And I'm talking about after beta. Allowing open-endness in a game is one thing, releasing it in the hands of a community that is not ready for it can be devastating. I'll just wait in the shadows and take the sit back and wait approach.....................

1) No. I no longer like building widgets in MMORPG's.
2) We can stop enemy players from spawning anywhere we like in PS, except their home sancts. What is your point with that question?
3) I do not want to build anything in MMO's any more. Only demented people would ever want to make virtual widgets.
4) Starve to death? Oh you mean like laying siege to a base and watching it slowly drain of power. We do that now - why play Roma when my game of choice all ready has that option.
5) LMAO! I, the outfit I'm with and other oufits we play with do that all the time in Planetside. What is your point of this question?
6) Again, we do that all the time. It is called strategy. See their weakness and exploit it to your advantage. Didn't you ever play PS? If you did, you must not have played with a good outfit and you must never have used TS.
7) Can we say boring? So you want to fight the enemy, but you don't want to fight them, you want to build a wall and just keep them bottled up? Yea..that sounds like fun. Not!
Oh and I have been playing PS for over 2 years now, and am a bigger fan of it than ever - do you think I'm bored of PS? Seriously?
I'm worried that there will be more crafter/politician types than actaul combatants, because it seems more tailored to those type of players. More crafters than consumers won't work very well IMO.
