Any mmos with no cash shop?

makasouleater69makasouleater69 Member UncommonPosts: 1,096
I am looking to play a mmo again, I have lowed all my standards but one, it has to have no cash shop, and a monthly sub. Anything like that left? I have been looking, it looks like Wild star, Eve, Everquest, LOTRO, SWTOR, Secret world, Guild wars 2, wow, any one I have downloaded; mind you it takes me 1-3 days to download a new game; I havent been to all, has a cash shop. Any left with a p2p, no cash shop?

    ...Not really.

You may find a few indie "sandbox" games (which are not sandbox games but PVP arenas that they call "sandbox games") but they are usually terrible, buggy, corrupt messes (see Mortal Online and darkfall)

Ca$h $hop is pretty well a part of this hobby now .Even in sub games (which are getting harder to find). I am pretty well done with MMORPGs, sadly. I tried Pathfinder Online thinking it was the last hope and its...terrible.

The genre needs to crash like the video game crash in the 1980s . Until then, its just going to get worse and worse and worse.

Hopefully something comes along to prove me wrong. Im losing hope, however, in a major way.

Nope all MMOs today have cash shops.  The Advantage of FFXIV's cash shop is you cannot see it in game, its hidden in the Mog station where people rarely go and the only thing on it are services like name, race and sex changes as well as server transfers, minions that mean nothing in game they are just there for looks, 1 mount and cosplay gear.  None of that gear has stats or anything on it, its just used for players to look like a ghost or and egg helmet, even a way to marry someone in game.  Again its all hidden and something you will not see in game.

O and yes I would say give FFXIV a try its a 14 day free trial.  Its one of the cheaper sub games out there, one of the cheaper boxes too, an expansion coming out as well as a stable if not growing population which is hard to find.

If you end up trying and end up going to the Aether datacenter server Siren look me up.  HelzBelz Hammerfist.

none that i can think of. cash shops are no big deal if you sub to the game. most sub games that have cash shops are just for cosmetic purposes. its the f2p games that require you to spend money.

Vendetta Online - the PC version has a sub and no cash shop. Mobile-entry players have other options, but nothing that gives them anything you wouldn't already have while subbed on PC. It is exactly what you are looking for.

Istaria - no cash shop as far as I know

Neocron - totally free game, no cash shop

They are out there. The other two I mentioned I've barely touched, but I can definitely vouch for Vendetta Online.

Also, getting moved to LFG in 3... 2...

    Istaria.

No cash shop (unless you treat "cash shop" as online store with mugs). Few paying plans, top one - 15$/motnh allows all races and plot owning.

yeah, I would say FFXIV and EVE are about as close as you will get to no cash shop.

    All die, so die well.

ESO -was- one that didn't have a cash shop, but now with B2P it's been added in. Only cosmetics though.

EVE is your best bet tbh.

    What makes you think:

    • sub + no cash shop = good game
Especially as most of the ones you list don't meet your own criteria.

Does such a combo guarantee a good community - nope; bug free - nope; lots of new content - nope; something you might play for a long time - not necessarily.

Don't get me wrong there could be a game with a sub and no cash shop that could be right for you but - frankly - your criteria are "stupid".

Are you looking for a fantasy or an SF game - if the latter you could consider Destiny (no cash shop or sub). Are you looking for PvE or PvP? If the latter Darkfall or Mortal Online - both of which I think have subs but no cash shop. Are you looking for solo play or mandatory grouping - if the latter Titanfall may be worth a look. Do you have a preference when it comes to graphics? Are you looking for story driven .... there are so many more important criteria than: must have sub and no cash shop.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it; maybe he just wanted to see what was out there.

I often find that if I ask an open-ended question I'll receive an answer that may help me along toward what I was looking for, more so than if I have a laundry list of very specific features.

Just my /2c, of course image

To be fair WoW´s cahs shop still does not offer anything of real value.

This have been a good conversation

OP gets attacked for wanting a game with no cash shop and posting without invective. I can't think of any good options for what you want OP, but I respect that you are looking to play a game that meets your criteria, and I hope a game appears that you can support.

FFXi has no cash shop and is the biggest game out there.Sure it has a ton of grind but also has a lot of stuff  that is not so grindy. If you just like killing stuff and leveling that aspect has been made quite easy now.You can even solo MANY bosses with the right class setups, mainly because the level cap is so high at 99.

IMO the best choice although you need a level 30 class before you can get it is Beastmaster.Beastmaster is imo the ultimate solo class.

Not only are there no cash shops, there is no hand holding either,so it is a mature Adult game.Tons of quests but do not expect xp for doing them.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Few years ago WoW sold their first cash shop item, a sparking pony mount. They made 25 mill in just over 48hrs. Thats the moment we gamers had sold our souls and cash shops was something that was going to happen in every MMO. If an MMO dose not have a cash shop, expect one someday as MMOs without is not the norm but the exception.

I agree, if mmo don't have it, expect them to have it someday, things just happen when mmo need to put a cash shop out of greed or need.

If you are against the sole existence of cash shop, regardless of what it actually entails, then that's pretty damn weird but you're out of luck.

If you simply want a game with an irrelevant cash shop then FFXIV is the way to go. You won't find a dev that respects the customer more than those guys.

Imho don't worry that much about a shop. Some games take it too far, sure, but in others you are good to go when you spend the ~$15 you'd pay for a sub each month.

But if you want a sub then the games mentioned already are afaik the ones you want to try.

Pretty much this. I think selling account/character services like transfers, renames etc. can't really be considered to be cash shop in my opinion.

EVE doesn't have cash shops but tehy can covert sub to ingame currency. WoW's cash shop is only mini pets and mounts, nothing else. And it's not like that game doesn't hvve like a billion pets/mounts in game already.

EVE does have a cash shop for PLEX, and also for vanity items in ship skins, and also player clothing.
