OP, I see you have played a lot of games, so I don't want to act as if your a newb but,  have you tried using gpuz or cpuid to ensure your fans are working right? Laptops rarely get blown out too because no one thinks they can accumulate dirt, but it couldn't hurt. Do some research on gpu drivers too, there may be a version that works better for your card and PoE. /shrug

Why all the hate on gaming laptops? I love the hell out of my Alienware and it plays everything available in ultra/high and travels with me wherever I go. YES, I know there are better lappys but I love Alienware .

Granted I prefer using my desktop but that isn't always possible and I would match my laptop specs against MOST peoples desktops and have better performance by far.

As far as overheating- It happens. Its one of the trade offs for the convenience of portability.  That said, its rare it happens.

The whole "laptops suck!" attitude is hilarious to me. I have a top of the line gaming Rig (Tower) and the best Alienware lappy out as of a few months ago and the lappy gets far more use even though its inferior to the desktop. cant curl up in bed with the desktop. Cant sit by the fireplace with the desktop. cant travel with the desktop (..well... I suppose you could but it would be a pain)

I also have an Xbawk 360 and PS4 AND a tablet ...Oh my.  Is that sacrilige? =P

I've only gotten the Desync every now and then (probably because I didn't have any real teleportation builds) but when it does hit, it hits hard.

And that one is the bug every single PoE player faces. xD

So a few hours ago,  I brought in my car to get checked out, was overheating for some reason. Mechanic tells me he's gonna check it out. About 20 minutes later he comes back with this pissed off look on his face and says:

"You've been playin POE haven't you?"

I'm like: "No, I haven't touched that game in months, I swear."

Mechanic is like: "DON'T LIE TO ME, Man!"

I'm like:  "I couldn't help it, I found this new witch summoner build , i was dying to try out, I'm sorry."

Mechanic: "Yeah well you fucked your car real good now, I hope your happy, gonna cost you 2 grand in repairs! I told you that game overheats everything!"

Morale of the story OP, always listen to your mechanic.

because their is clearly an internal issue with your computer. just because it doesn't happen for other games doesn't make it PoEs fault. if its happening to you and only you its an issue on your side.

the only thing i can think of off the top of my head is it could be a vsync issue because poe doesn't cap FPS like most games.

You can Google any problem imaginable with any game in existence and get tons and tons of results.

POE is an amazing game and is absolutely 100% free with no reason to pay for store items but sometimes people's issues with games are a result due to their own hardware configurations so this issue you post of is one that only effects a few.  Sorry you cant play it but not everyone can play every game.  I myself have issues trying to play Deus Ex but I don't bitch about it and try to sway people to not play the game.  Please grow up and think about your actions.

Played this game for awhile on an old i5-750 OCed to 4ghz and never had problem with over heating.  Your laptop may be fine but that doesn't change that laptops are not the ideal when it comes down to heat problems due to their small size also I do believe much stuff in POE is cpu bound.

Just get a desktop with a good cpu cooler and decent case with decent airflow...

It will never be better to hunch over a laptop with a tiny screen than to use a PC.  Ever.  Now if you mean every PC will come with a screen and keyboard attached for people to hook up monitors and other peripherals to, that might be a possibility, albeit a bleak one.

If the OP wants to fix her/his laptop, maybe you should take it out and put it in a tower with some fans and drop a real heatsink on the cpu and gpu.  That will fix your problem.

Proof accepted. Although it looks like you're using an hp laptop? Those aren't exactly known for their versatility.
  • DonVadimDonVadim Member UncommonPosts: 46

Your hardware is overheating because the game tries to run at the highest framerate possible, which means it loads your GPU and CPU to the max.

Now how hard is it to turn the Vsync on or cap the framerate directly on your graphics card (using for example nvidia inspector for geforce cards) ? Looks like hard to the point you have to rant on forums. Very hard indeed.

Hmmm- Interestingly enough most gaming laptops have HDMI ports and can now  beam to a television with wireless.

Whats your specs BTW?I bet my lappy competes with your tower and I generally have no overheating problems and can pack mine up for travel and set it up in any hotel in about 3 seconds. I sometimes (...not often) play on my big screen HDTV with my lappy (mainly with games that allow a controller) and it takes about 10 seconds to set that up. I would have to drag my tower pout of the office to do this and it would be easy to do but not really feasible. So while you are hunching over a small monitor I am playing on a 42 inch HDTV using my lappy.

Again, My desktop has far more power but is used less because it shackles me to one area of the house and I travel often.

I am sick of the hate directed at laptops from people who seem to think they are superior since they have a Tower. Again, I have both...And a console and a tablet. I dont overheat and my specs are far greater than the average desktop... If I need a powerhouse , I have one.

I also have a tower which I assure you outdoes 99% of everyones specs(Lappy orTower) so I am not speaking out due to jealousy -

  • mgilbrtsnmgilbrtsn Member EpicPosts: 3,430
A bit hysterical.  I have played for a fair bit of time, and have had no problems.  I know there are a lot of people who play without problems.  I don't say there aren't any problems, because there are.  But you need to keep some perspective.  Because a certain minority have an issue, is hardly a basis for condemning the game and waiving everyone away from it.  H Y S Y E R I CAL.  Pull it together man.

Your laptop will cost more for the same power as a desktop, your laptop will not last as long as your desktop due to not really being upgradable as laptops are mostly chuck and buy a new one. Your desktop is much easier to get into than your laptop when it comes to hardware fixes etc

I also play on a 47' hdtv from my couch though from my desktop which is tucked away nice in it's own spot rather than sitting on the couch or my lap etc thus no poofs due to spilled beer/food and whatnot.

Laptops have an advantage sure for people that travel and need to game while traveling yet do most people want to game while traveling?  Dunno man but most people do not travel for work and spend their gaming time at home and as the man of the house I will not shut myself in a room to game like maybe a teen would etc

Just saying a laptop will never outperform a desktop simply because a lappy cant get rid of excess heat like a desktop can.
