ArcheAge is the perfect example of a fantastic game destroyed by terrible decisions.
I have absolutely no respect for Trion and their P2W axiom. Won't look at another game by these guys...
I can't tell you how many times I've heard my guildies say "never gonna buy another game from company X" (insert your own most hated company) only to find out they are playing their games couple of months later.
If gamers stuck to their word - companies like EA would have been out of business years ago, instead they are more profitable than ever.
Same with Trion - it's no secret that I have friends who work there - and they are more profitable now than ever.
Well, of course they are...but isn't that the root of the issue so many people have with them now?

Comparing the number of games EA puts out in a year to Trion is not a valid point. EA is a monolith. Trion? A small blip on the radar.
Got my email and deleted it instantly, have also blocked any further mail from these bunch of muppits cannot stand the way they run their games no such thing as customer service from them, just PROFIT focused all the time.
I have zero sympathy for anyone who plays this game or any other free to play game. This is what happens when FTP games try to get customers that spent money back to the game. They know exactly how much each person spent and if your still spending at the time of these promotions you will never be included.
Love all these anti-F2P people coming on here and pointing out that this one game is like this while completely ignoring Rift's billing model. way to go for irony there! LOL
Anyway with that being said, this is what happens actually when people allow their games to have a billing model that is part of progression, in which progression is directly tied to real cash money. Ironically people who are posting about being anti F2P are the same people who support things like STO's new billing model and GW2 TP centric model or even the RMTAH in Diablo III early days. If you supported those models you are part of the problem, not the people who advocate for a LOTRO/Rift style billing model because the F2P isn't the problem, the problem is when these companies get greedy in any billing model and wnat you to pay to progress your character.
While I think that NOW Trion is making amends and handling things better, I just cant understand how so many bad decisions can be made in such a short amount of time for one game. There have been 5 or 6 major blowouts over poor decisions in only 6 months. I seriously question Mr. Hartmans leadership of the company.

Aye. When it comes to making profit, the F2P "greedily focus on the cash shop at the expense of the game" model, if done correctly, works even with the most terrible of games (and Archeage, while having many issues, is still not the bottom rung of the ladder). That's no secret. It's such a "not a secret" that, again, R2Games made a friggin' public business presentation on the matter without fear of it hurting their business.

I agree many people say one thing and do another but SOE is a prime example that not ALL people go back on their word. Its been ten years since SOE gave the middle finger to its current customers and look where they are now...

I agree they had many blow out, but some poor decisions was on them, other was on the player expecting more then what the game was and is. Like land how many complain I heard about this as the game was limit amount of land long be for the game came out over sea, even befor came to NA was told and told again land was limited, but most the complain was I pay this I should get land.
Kano has been supporting this game for awhile. Almost as if Trion themselves are paying him to do so.(maybe the only smart move that company has done as of late) He claims AA continues to remain popular? Then why the hell are they giving out these grand packs if the game is so popular? Does that look like a move for a game that is doing well? It's a move of desperation. They announced their big update thinking that droves of people would return. When they realized this wasn't happening they went into panic mode. The game is going down in a blaze of glory one "misstep" at a time.
I was miffed I didn't get an offer. Guess I wasn't a big enough whale to warrant it.

You only knew there would be a lack of land if you went out of your way to do some research. And frankly, lots of MMO players don't do that (nor should they have to, IMHO. If a game is forcing people to do a ton of out of game research, that game did something wrong, I think). Really, there hasn't been an MMO with housing on LIMITED space since... Star Wars Galaxies?
Trion's marketting department and the game's website and anything remotely official with Archeage never mentioned a strict lack of land. It just said "Be a patron! Own land!" So you can at least partially blame Trion('s marketting) for THAT expectation.
Me personally, I think that "limited land" is a stupid decision even from a BUSINESS perspective. Considering how much a part of the game housing can be if you design your game right, and how much MONEY you can make from monetizing some aspects of housing, and how many PLAYERS you can get committed to your game because they're in love with their house, why on earth would you as a business LIMIT the amount of players that can own houses? That's like PURPOSEFULLY limitting your customer base and revenue stream, and that's stupid. Well, far as I can tell, at least. There are several potential reasons why AA's success in terms of player base was "limited" in various regions (to say the least) so it's hard to pin down exactly which ones were truly factors, sometimes.
After the mess that was the "refresh your browser for unlimited LP potions" nothing really surprises me in how they handle anything in this game anymore.

It was not just the limited land issue, it was Trion letting the bots control the land purchases. I don't call this game ArchAge, I call it the "Land of the Cheaters" a far more apt title. Absolutely inexcusable that they were not prepared for this issue as many prior f2p games have experience similar issues and why many of us are done with Trion forever.
Exactly....Limited land is one thing, but having it taken up where honest players have no chance is another thing. The land hacking is ridiculous, and Trion / XL did nothing about it. People were hacking land then selling it. The only way to get land at one point was to buy it off land hackers.

Let's not forget that his game was already released in at least 2 other regions and had about 2 years under it's belt. A brand new mmo having bots is one thing. A mmo released in a new market after already being live in another region for a while. Well, that is just pathetic. It's really no surprise that AA is not doing well in it's homeland and from what I've read the Russian version has lost most of it's steam already. You don't have to be a scientist to see the pattern and inevitable outcome.
As a patron, I seem to recall getting a ton of gifts which those that quit didn't... Divine Gifts! I know it has been a long two weeks since these were given but did you all stop long enough to think of the value of the total of the divine gift event far, far exceeds what was given in the gift pack?!
No surprise though from a playerbase of self entitled children. Selective memory goes hand in hand with the me, me, me generation.
SORRY TRION CAVED!
Right... It is the playerbase that is the problem. Trion has absolutely no ownership of any issues with the game. Thanks for clearing that up for us.
Maybe if the player base decided to "choose their battles" better and didn't make EVERY issue a hill to die on, I would have sympathy. From watching this same playerbase since release, all I hear is bitch bitch bitch no matter how large or small the issue. So in my world there is no credibility left for them, sorry.
Being able to play this unique, deep, feature rich game is enough reward for me.
The playerbase has every right to complain about how poorly this game has been handled. Maybe if Trion and XL weren't a bunch of drunken circus clowns, this game might have had potential, but instead we got a textbook example of how NOT to make a Sandbox MMO.
You go ahead and enjoy the game. At this rate, it won't be around for much longer, and your attitude is not helping matters.
Trion and XL did make a lot of silly missteps - no denying that, however the game still remains popular (I know this is hard to believe for many who dislike Trion and XL)
I know many are unhappy and what to see it fail -because somehow they would feel personally vindicated for AA failing to live up to their own standards, or whaever wrongs Trion, XL and AA has done to them - but this is wishful thinking.
Also remember that AA is still played in Korea, Russia, Japan - and launching in China in July.
AA is going to be around for a long time, I am sorry to say to some of you
Happy gaming
yeah popular, so popular they had to give that kind of pack to players who don't play anymore and anyone who first complained as a shut up gift, and now we have all players who didn't notice it in time to complain to ge tthe same pack, also considerating most who did get the pack did not come back to play and even lose more players for this shenanigans, plus that letter of sorry we did bad, so lets just forget it and move on, is kind a dick slap on every player there.
also kano trying to defend the indefensable is getting tiresome can you please drop your damn ego and see what is happening?

I bet they are profitable. Just like that kim kardashian cell phone game is. If you're just about money then making a profit is a great quantifier of a games quality. I would even say archeage is a great game. But trion burned me with 10% discount fiasco. I would not come back to this game if you paid me to play... Worst customer service and bots I have ever seen in any game in my 16 years of playing MMOs

Did you guys read the update? Way to complain and @#*$(%ing blow it for every future giveaway.

I enjoyed ArcheAge for how little I could actually play it.
My only question is, have they implemented a means of inverting the Y-Axis yet?
If yes, Awesome!
If no, it's still unplayable for me.
