What you believe could have been the top 5 main reasons the game went B2P?
All MMOs go through some kind of change at some point.
so what could have been the things that lead to this decision in your opinion?

Probably the #1 reason is the console release. The few console sub mmos that have come out have had had xbl fee waivers and until the ps4, you didnt need a psn fee for multiplayer.
They were probably worried asking someone to pay an additional monthly fee on top of their existing xbl/psn fees could lead to a lower adoption rate, which is especially bad, since the console servers are seperate from each other and pc.
The other reasons could get into turnover rates, marketing to attract back people who have previously bought the game, competing in a changing market, the usual business/marketing stuff.
No one in his right mind is going to pay a subscription for this game on console. They are lucky they got away with it on PC for as long as they have.
It's extremely difficult to get console players to pay a subscription on top of the console subscription. The only game successfully doing so for 12+ years is FFXI and now also FF14 for the last couple of years. However both those games are incredibly polished, amazing content and regular updates that rival other games' expansions.
Planned from the very beginning with consoles in mind.
I would enjoy it if Kano jumped into this thread and gave us a bit of a detailed inside view.

In other news...
The #1 reason was the encroaching depopulation of the servers
The #2 reason was the inability to talk MS into waving the Xbone internet surtax (Sony did agree)
And don't look now but the sub is still there except now its there as an attractive optional thing that gives you 1500 Crowns a month, some +10% boosts and access to all DLC --once they have DLCs-- for the same exact cost of just buying 1500 Crowns... IDK who in their right mind would buy Crowns instead of subbing. Some clever psychology at work here.

Cash shops generate more revenue than subs.

#1 Consoles, connected to desire to make chitloads of money quickly through box sales;
#2 Consoles, connected to failed attempt to make deal with MS.
At this moment, ESO`s post-console future is hoovering somewhere between sub and BTP, and depending on number of console sales/subs/whatever and the quality/frequency of incoming DLCs etc. it can land anywhere between flourishing or - god forbid! - degenerating into typical FTP/cash shop milking.
Pretty sure the Illuminati are too involved with TSW to get involved with ESO... the other four are probably right though
1.Consoles
2.The game sucks and was losing subs like Freddy Cruger's mom losing her virginity in that prison
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
What a great Idea for a thread.......like this has not been beaten to death already.

Millions of people who are willing to pay a sub, sub to WoW followed by FFIV etc. etc.The vast majority of those millions are not willing to pay for multiple subs for multiple games.
Taking those subs from those popular games is nigh impossible. The game would have to blow everyone's socks off.
Want people to keep playing your game long term after the first 30 days and drop money on it every so often. B2P is the way to go.
It doesn't mean the game sucks, it's just the way things are.

1. Money
2. Attract a larger audience.
3. Console release
4. P2P model is outdated in its current form.
5. B2P is a more attractive payment model.
There is really only one reason.
They project this model to generate more revenue than a sub model.
They "may" have had it in mind from the start. But if they were making money hand over fist with subs then that is what they would have stuck with.
Business models change based on past revenue, current revenue and future predictions of revenue. Just like any other business. Two years ago a sub model prediction of revenue may have looked good based on the research. It did not meet or exceed expectations so they had to change plans to stay in business.
Some people just dont seem to get that these are companies who need to make a profit. Even if that means going back on what they may have said in the past about the business model they prefer.
