After playing both WoW and EQ2

WoW vs EQ2

Although I've heard so much raving over EQ2s graphics, theyre only amazing for exploring because if you try and fight with the best graphics youll be lucky if you get once spell off before the lag kills you.  WoW dominates in this area.  Want proof, compare the gryffons.  Eq's just made me wanna throw up.

For the actual players I think EQ2 might have it here.  Theres the good and the bad on both sides but I just found that the good were much harder to find in WoW.  Whereas the chat in EQ is mostly helpful, WoW is alot of stfu, ninja, noob, etc.

Quests- Far and away the 2 greatest quests will belong to WoW.  Getting to wake peons up with a stick and getting to blow naga away with a cannon could be the 2 most amazing quests ever made.  After this the fun level is basically even.  EQ2 does have alot more quests however, and what goes for one quest in EQ is about the size of 5-6 in WoW.

PvP- No contest, a game will full PvP and a system vs a thing in development that still has tons of balancing to be worked out.  I dont think anything else needs to be said.

Customization-  weapons and armor seem to be alot more diverse at the end game in WoW mainly because the best weapons in EQ can be sold/made.  However for characters, theres alot more classes/races in EQ and theres probably more nose options in EQ then the total options in a WoW character.

Leveling up-  EQ- harder and longer compared to the quick and easy xping in WoW.

Miss EQ- Every npc says his dialogue. The Day-Night in EQ2 with different mobs during each period is pretty cool, as well as their map layout where you could leave town fight 10s go farther and fight 20s and then go farther and find more 10s rather then the progression system.  Crafting system is also alot more designed and and you actually have to pay attention/ do stuff while your crafting or you will fail at it.  Guilds/Houses are also alot more done then the lack of houses and basically guilds being finished after you buy the tabards.  Cities are larger and designed better. Loading isnt much of a problem once you leave the city.  Anon feature if you want to be left alone/just play with friends.  No AH lag since theirs several AH's and infact, no lag at all.  And last and far most importantly, theres no murlocs in this game.

Miss WoW- Underwater combat is 100x better.  Tabards and Shirts are nice to make teh players look different.  No load time from section to section except instances compared to having to go through 4-6 load screens to get from one end of a town to the other.  More then 2 towns in the game.  Storyline seems to relate to the game rather then just a bland random past.  Horses look alot better and are sized for the different classes, ogres on ponies just dont look right.

Future- Both games might be in trouble here.  Im going to stick with EQ2 because the PvP system is in development and the expansions seem to be coming out much quicker.  WoW is great until I realized that I am just going to PvP for the next year and Id go play Ghost Recon 1 for for the best pvp game ever made.  However Blizzard could easily suprise me and destroy EQ if northrend comes out within the year, but theres only pvp and level an opposite race up to 20 to do the different quests.  Wow i cant believe I said that, northrend in a year lol.  By year i mean before i die of old age.

They both have good and bad points

EQ2 has more of a future and an amazing dev team, alot better than the team on WOW!

EQ2 has amazing trade skilling and a economy

EQ2 has a longer play xp! Far more quests and lore and alot of stories and great group play! it will last you ages and the slow leveling is fine because your not meant to rush the game!

WOW has hardly any zoning :)

Apart from the world in WOW i don't liek the actual game!

EQ2 is much more rich in what to do and will last you ages! You can get bored of WOW in 2 weeks after getting to lvl 60

But ay EQ2 has much faster development and a great team behind it! Shame SOE make alot of mistakes

Just looking forward to the splitpaw saga and desert of flames

IMHO, WoW is a game that fails entirely on the merits, or lack thereof, of its player population.

As one user mentioned, any question or ask for assistance is likely to be met with "STFU", "go play something else", "noob" , mom insults, and a variety of other middle school garbage.  Unfortunately, the playerbase is largely derived from the battle.net population, very few of whom are above age 15 (most seem to be about 12).

Current competition right now, EQ2 and City of Heroes, all have fairly responsive, mature, and helpful communities.  I am almost never insulted in those games, and queries are answered fairly quickly and helpfully (assuming anyone is around who knows the answer).

I personally believe WoW has 2 years in it max before it dies.  No new content is comming out, everything is the same, and once you get to lvl 60, you just PvP your heart out.

    meh

EQ2 can grow forever.  WoW may be more fun now, but in a year, I think EQ2 will have what it takes to top WoW and Guild Wars.

SOE is doing a fantastic job with EQ2 aswell!

I'm not terribly impressed by neither of the two but WoW is the much better game IMO. EQ2 just isn't fun, it felt like work most of the time. And I think WoW actually looks better than EQ2, it has style and personality... EQ2 looks like a cut and paste job most of the time.

Right, because that makes perfect sense - for a company to release a game and then add NO new content or not release any expansions.  image

There is plenty to do in WoW once you hit 60, including raiding and PvP.  There are also a lot of quests that involve you to do the higher end dungeons with just a group.
The people that are bitching about lack of content are the people who raced to 60 and whos only purpose in the game was leveling.  If you are are THAT kind of player and you love grinding, then go back to EQ because this game isn't for you.

I'll hop on the WoW band wagon....of course I don't have 20-40 hours to play the game a week, so I find the "grind" to be about perfect for me.  I couldn't even get into EQ2...the zoning is horrible, I found the interface lacking and the tutorial horrible.  Of course this is just me and my opinion.

I no longer have the time to play a game that I did in my UO days, so WoW is the clear winner.  And the remarks to the poor behavior of the populace.  Quit generalizing, I myself almost always answer a question in general if I know the answer.  If you don't like the people on your server...then there's more than one server to move to.  I find the best people in WoW are on Cenarian Circle, but I spend most my time on Lightnings Blade....WoW really needs an RP/PvP server.

And WoW isn't perfect...I find the crafting way too simple for my tastes.  The servers have always had problems.  And it gets to where you don't want to play on patch day, because you know the servers coming down within six hours after going live.

But quit generalizing...there are immature people in WoW for sure, but I've been bitched out more often in UO than I have in WoW.

Well, if fact you have descrived wow perfectly: "Killing mobs and PVP" that's all you can do B(

If you like WOW that's nice for you. But please, understand there is other people (like me) that is looking for MMORPG which allows you to do something more that just killing mobs and PVP.

We respect your oppinion, you should respect ours as well.

My problem was that I didnt play that often and I got bored quickly.  I wouldnt consider myself a person who races to sixty either since it took me from launch till April to get my mage up there.  The only real playing I ever did was one extreme week where I also had my friend play on my guy so I could shoot up through the PvP ranking system.

My main problem is just lack of stuff.  Half of the instances are terrible and just tiresome fighting until you reach the main boss.  Some like Strathlome and Dire Maul are nice, but theres only so many times you do the same thing before its way too boring.  This and PvP isnt really the main problem though, although it will be a miracle if WoW expects to keeps its players for years with only PvP.  My main boredom factor was the fact that nearly every class just hits the same one or 2 buttons over and over.

Mages-97% fireball, 1%flamestrike, 1% poly, 1% counterspell.  Only good by suiciding through a mage bomb, but then youll spend 50% of your time running to your corpse for one or 2 kills since most players are on the lookout for this and are alos on the lookout for mages in general since theyre the easiest to drop.

Paladins- I could list percentages but since they are utterly useless in PvP combat and the fact that Ive seen a lvl 30 hunter harass a lvl 60 Paladin for half an hour before I finally decided to stepped in and killed the hunter, I'm not even going to go into their problems.  No range, no damage, no fun.

Druids-100% moonfire.  Bear form cant deal damage and cat form is just a wannabe rogue.

Shaman- The one class that might actually have a ton of endgame spells, but then again who wouldnt give the class that all the devs play a ton of spells to make them better then anyone else.  And before anyone says that shamans are fine, any class that can 5 man a lvl 60 instance without any other classes needs to be severly beat with the nerf bat.  If you do play WoW, Id suggest running a Shaman, you have ranged, healing, tanking ability, and high dmg, and you also get a speed buff.  But sadly however frost shock is ony now at 95% of its former glory so you might have some trouble.

Hunters- 50% aimed shot, 50% conc shot.  Mana drains are ineffective and poisons will barely scratch the hp bar.

Locks/Priests- 50% their one DoT spell, 50% their other one.

Warrior- improving but they are barely above the paladin dmg wise and by the time you get your rage bar up your long dead.

Rogues- Wait 5min for vanish to come up, kill a mage, vanish, wait 5 more min. OR attack someone without vanish and get zerged.

WoW's major problems : The content is so fun, people just plow through it and beg for more. It needs expansions and content. The community sucks, it is immature and childish. Horde is always outnumbered in pvp.

EQ's major problems : No pvp. Loading. High system requirements. The community might possibly be TOO mature. Slow paced. Poor soloability. Artificially lengethened to require more grinding.

Summary : WoW feels like a fun rollercoaster ride that ends too soon. EQ feels like work that never ends.

Im pretty far into the game and I havent felt the grind yet. If you do the quests you lvl very quickly and a vast majority if them are very fun to complete

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

If you don't have 20 hours per week to put in gaming, WoW is for you

If you have 20 hours per week to put in gaming, EQ2 is for you.

Any hardcore gamer who spends lot time in games will grow tired of WoW fast...Any Casual gamer who just wants moments joy every now and then will enjoy WoW far more than EQ2.

I still haven't grown tired of EQ2 really as I don't try to level to max in a day....I try out quests...wander around killing random stuff....socialise...

What I like in EQ2 is that it makes WoW's world look like sand box surrounded by ocean.
