I think I will try out a priest in tera and maybe try out a paladin in neverwinter, both seem to fit my wish for something heal/support-ish verry well :-)
tab targeting gets a bad rap but for a healer it makes it more challenging when you have to target them to heal rather than just mindlessly spamming group heals.
the only downfall to it IMO is that you spend more time looking at health bars than whats actually going on around you. but then again, that is what makes it more challenging because you have to juggle between looking at health bars and what is going on around you.
that said, the most challenge and fun i have ever had in an mmo as a healer was with my EQ1 shaman. not only was i a healer but i was a buffer and it was very intense during raids having to manage all the healing and buffing/debuffing i constantly had to do.
especially if you were the only shaman like i was many times lol
FFXI has 3 incredible healer classes as well as several others that can heal pretty good and tons of other spells and abilities to use at the same time. Also features a sub class system,so you can actually play two healer types at the same time or a healer support or whatever you want, only 22 classes though so not sure enough choice :P.
Healers also have a unique ability in FFXI,their heals actually damage the undead, that is what depth ion a game does. Also their natural blunt damage is also best on undead or bones type creatures.I was actually shocked that if a WHM for example uses a staff instead of the club it trades away buff stats but introduces a very powerful weapon skill only perhaps rivaled by the Club at around level 50.I was doing 700+ damage using the staff weapon skill damage around level 37 while other classes can't match or top that until later.
All classes get some unique abilities never seen in any other game, including the healers. Also the White mage healer in FFXI can attain teleport's that no other class can get, although they have now added a ton of teleport options in the game to no longer need a WHM as much as players relied on them in the first 8 years.
The Scholar in FFXI is unique,it can switch it's role from light arts to dark arts.I guess you might say it sort of gives the Scholar the ability to triple class.
The problem of course which is also a problem in every game is that aside from Boss type fights, everyone is soloing in games,so the healer ROLE has sort of been lost. That is why since every game is soloing, the healer role in FFXI rivals any with it's massive versatility.Yes i played the healers in EQ/EQ2 they can be fun as well ,wear stronger armor but i always felt handcuffed and there is no sub class in those games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
