How is the community in this game?

CaldicotCaldicot Member UncommonPosts: 455

I have never tried FFXIV but I've been leaning towards it more and more lately. Is it easy to find groups and people to play with? How is the community in general?

It's like most games, you have helpful players, you have bad eggs and then everything in between.  The Reddit community is overall very positive and helpful.  Most people in-game are pretty tolerant towards new players in the early level content but are less forgiving and sometimes downright trollish in some of the high level content.  With that said, it's probably one of the better communities I've been a part of though.

There is a party matching system to group you with random players across multiple servers in your data center cluster and there's also one you can create local to your own server, so finding a group typically isn't a problem for things.  Finding one that can clear some of the harder fights (Ex Primals and some of the Binding Coil turns) can be challenging at times though.

Personally, i think the community in this game is awesome, i play on the Euro servers primarily on Odin and the players i've encountered there have been very friendly, i think being open and friendly too will encourage that kind of response in others anyway though image

From my limited time in game so far I would say the community is better than average. Everyone I have met seems real friendly. Perhaps it is the less-serious atmosphere than in games like TESO? Or maybe because (I hear) that grouping is more of a requirement than in other games? I dunno but friendly folks regardless.

Overall the Community is better than most MMOs.  The only issues I found were most FCs that are active are on the larger side and tend to not help out new players unless they are apart of raid groups.  Some FCs tend to tell leveling players who re-roll on new servers to pug stuff because it will be faster to level.  So for this reason I started my own FC and am looking for like minded Adult players to play with vs using the Duty Finder for everything.

I have not played in a while but  i figure it would be even tougher at this point.

The problem is that games are a constant push forward, soon nobody wants to do any old stuff. You will likely find it very tough to get a pug to do any of the early dungeons, geesh it was tough even 5 months ago.Your best option is a Linkshell and even then you will notice groups of players seem to stick together, they login at the same time,do an end game run then likely logout. You should however in a decent size LS find a couple players to help you out as some early dungeons are only 3 man runs.

I personally don't like that developers continue to make the same mistakes over and over, you would think they'd learn by now but nope.A game will NEVER be comfortable for new players when the design is to rush everyone beyond into new zones.

You can even look at the most populated rpg going "WOW" it's noob zones are as barren as a freeware game,so it is the same game design mistake in EVERY game.

Then guess what expansions do,no they don't add anything to old content, they make another new zone further pushing players away,i would fire all of these producers, they are bad at their jobs.

I play on Moogle when I play it's the best European server imo. The problem is it's hard to get on there,  it's locked most of the time.

It is a great server, i did play on it for a while, but, given its a mostly french server, or was when i left it at least, i chose Odin, which, also busy and occasional Queues, but at least i can understand people, the players on Moogle were very friendly even if i didn't understand a word of french, and with my perhaps atypical total inability to learn other languages ( i am a brit after all) it was probably more frustrating for them image

Don't let these people above fool you. The community in this game is just as elitist and annoying as WoW's if you want to do the raids, and god forbid if you don't go break-neck speed in the instanced dungeons, unless you want to bring down the wrath of the teenage boy playing a Miqo'te.

The first time I ever had a shitty experience with an MMO's community was with this game. Was in a raid, we wiped ONCE, and the leader kicked out everyone from the raid, crying that we all sucked. Get ready to deal with that BS if you plan to.

If you generally keep to yourself and only speak with your guild? Yeah, good community. Talk to a random person or join a pug dungeon? You're gonna have a bad time.

Yes there are Ass holes in this game just like the next.  I left my FC because one guy was an Ass hole telling me and my wife to go pug and stop asking for leveling content.  Well guess what I started my own FC to find the players that want the same thing.  A FC where we will raid in Heavensward AND we will do leveling content on other nights.  The problem is people look at FC rank and Numbers too tell them if a FC is good.  A Rank 8 FC with 300 Active members and never more than 15 to 20 members on does not mean you have a good FC.....  People really need to look at the FC and the members before figuring out if an FC is good or not.

That's really unfortunate. Sorry to hear that. It would be a shame to judge an entire community on a bad experience. But that's your right. Hope you have a better experience with people in the future.

Who said this doesn't happen? Nobody here has implied the community is perfect.

The reason why old zones are dead is because today almost all FCs out there either A) have their Raiding core and recruit people just to have numbers and not care about them.  Or B) are no more than a Chat Room.....  Thats why people do not get together and do the old content.  It also does not help when a person like me who came back to FFXIV in Dec and re-rolled on Siren with my wife where most FCs dont care to help out new or returning players.

So what did I do.  Yes I started my own FC for this reason.  Yea I might have limited time however that does not mean I cannot be friends with people in game (god only knows how many friends I made from other MMOs that I still talk to, to this day) and set some time aside to run leveling content with my FC members or friends.  Now I cannot say I can do it today or tomorrow.  However I am sure I can work a little bit of time in sometime in the next week unless I am going on vacation.  If people are willing to wait for that instance they need I for sure will help when time allows.

Lately I've found the community in the games I play very nice, ESO, GW2.  In some games I hear ty and wlc constantly and people are very helpful to others asking for help or answering questions.  It's a nice change.  I also mostly PvE so that probably has something to do with it.

I've experienced the same. The community in gw2 has been very friendly and helpful as I've been leveling up my mesmer. Wows trade chat is pretty horrible but if you ask a legitimate question in a reasonably mature manner, you usually get an appropriate tell.
In fact, most games are like that in my experience. Show a little maturity and that community tends to open up to you. Come off as immature and you'll open yourself to that community.

Outside Free Companies? Non existent in my experience so far.

Once in a Free Company? Excellent.

Finding groups is really easy in general though, due to the cross server duty finder, just don't expect to form any deeper connection than 'let's get this shit done'.

Not crying, merely stating fact. And yes, I read the thread. Nearly every post above me was pushing the opinion that the game has a good community, and that's simply not true. It's like every MMO's community, good and bad.

Go back to your fanboy box, kid.

Instantly calling someone a kid (or responding to a negative post in a negative way when there is not a large amount of text to consider) leads me to believe that you're an enigma yourself.  Indeed, I'm finding it -very- likely that you got into arguments with someone considering your attitude.  Bad company invites misery, as they say.

That said, the community as a whole right now is pretty great.  There were hiccups along the way at the start with regards to the first two 8 man dungeons, but now that people severely outgear them -- and systems put into place to promote good behavior -- people don't mind going into boss fights with half the party watching a movie.  Add to that player commendations and the game telling you when someone is new -- and providing a bonus for others to stay -- and you (most of the time) get people who greet new people and thank them for the extra bonus they provided (usually in the league of 100+ additional tomes).

    "Thank you, new players!"

"You're the real MVP, new players!"

These are some quotes I have seen.  I have not raided in a couple weeks, but when I was gearing several alts (probably a couple hundred raids overall), the vast, vast majority of them had people like this.

On the other side of the coin, about two months ago my friend got into a party with a impolite tank.  This was very memorable to her and I simply because it was such a rare occurrence to us.  That said, you won't see anyone legitimately saying it's "perfect", but it is, in my opinion, above average.

If you follow the twitch trio of ItmeJP, Strippin and Dodger (or the co-optional podcast), you will also note them saying that they were ridiculously surprised at how nice the community has been.  People just coming into their channels and saying they're glad they enjoy the game and hope they continue to have fun.  Similar experiences in game as well.

I've not run into elitism myself -- even though I was a part of that scene back in 1.0 -- but I'm sure it exists.  This is mainly because I don't bother with Coils anymore, I'd wager.  That, and it's been so long and you can spam WoD for ilvl 130 gear like it's candy now.

It's always up to the individual.  Though there are systems in place to encourage good behavior, which is a step above what most games do at the moment.

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

I would say the community itself is quite positive. People are very forgiving and its actually rare to have massive ass hats in your group. It is easy to get involved in the game and find helpful people.

It is pretty much to the point I'm pretty sure I'm that 'elitist jerk' within the community being how I am (not afraid to tell you that you suck or point out you are wasting people's time, even though I do give people a chance and help them out. I'm just a jerk like that and get very blunt. XD ). It might even be to the point I think it can be too nice at times.

Never once had a bad experience with PUGs in FF XIV. Even when I would start an instance with "Hi, Im your tank. Im new. Tell me how this goes". But YMMV.

One MMO community is much like another , just drift around until you find a group of people you get along with and stick with them , that's been my key to longevity in an MMO . If i can't find people i can hang around with in a game i don't stick with it very long .
  • kitaradkitarad Member LegendaryPosts: 8,177
Community is very good from what I recall. You however get what you put in . If you are an ass to the community the community will respond in kind. So deal with everyone you meet well and you will have a great experience in the game. If you meet people you do not care for thankfully there are others you can party with. Just behave  and you will get a good experience.

  • BascolaBascola Member UncommonPosts: 425

Part from the rampant rage quitting in PUGs and the elitist perfect rotation max DPS  bullshit in end game the community is pretty mature and good.

But you can always duty finder dungeons or grind hunts to cap your tokens in a couple hours then play something else the rest of the week.

  • Viper482Viper482 Member LegendaryPosts: 4,101

Your community will be the FC you choose, other than that no one talks to each other, no one does anything together other than grind fates and pug required dungeons for main story lines. I have done multiple leveling dungeons through the duty finder where we went th entire dungeon without one conversation. It is always a speed run because you are probably the only dude there for the first time lol, the other guys are leveling alts.

Lack of a community does not make for a goods community. Just because I don't have people constantly trolling GC does not mean it is a "good" community.
