Thinking about getting TESO for PC instead of waiting. Good idea or bad?

MMOExposedMMOExposed Member RarePosts: 7,400

Reason I wanted to go Console was for controller controls. I dont really enjoy mouse aim in most PC games with aim combat.

Hope there is a solution for this on the PC version.

Also I want something to enjoy till GW2:HoT. I am a fan of WvW in GW2, but that has died on my server. I refuse to server jump.

I am not a fan of Level grinding. So thats never a selling point in any MMO IMO.

But do you think TESO in its current form would be a good match for me?

There is an add-on that allows you to play with a controller, don't know if it works though

Why would you play an MMO on anything but PC? It's madness. Besides, they sell console controllers for PC.

I kind of agree with this.  Unless you want to solo 100% of the time, never talk to anyone in game, and are only in it for the storyline.  Then I could see where console might be a draw?...

MMORPG titles to me scream a pc must.

If you like Elder Scrolls series you shouldn't be disappointed.

The only console advantage I can think of is that it will have built-in voice communications so you don't have to worry about having the correct PC voice program and finding the right connection settings when you join a group.

This is not an issue for guild chat since you just set it once and you're set. But it's nice to also have voice for PUGs in PVP, dungeons and raids.

Other than that, MMOs on PCs are far superior.

It depends if your PC can handle ESO.  If not, just buy the console version.  Check out the system requirements just in case.

Maybe I'm lost here and don't understand. But doesn't Pinnacle Game Profiler work for ESO?

edit: Quite a few controller profiles for it here. http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/pc-controller-support/alpha-gamepad-joystick/xbox-360-ps3-psx-etc/elder-scrolls-online

Your probably not familiar with TES then, ESO is not made by the same developers that created TES series of games, and is not like any of the TES games in any case, something that has been stated pretty often already.  Going into ESO expecting something remotely similar to Oblivion, Morrowind or Skyrim will only lead to disappointment. Better to play the game without the unrealistic expectations, more likely to enjoy it.image

I think the OP is concerned more about the game controls than the actual game world. Overall, the UI is almost identical to the single player games and that is what I believe he was asking about. If the OP is familiar with any of the Elder Scrolls games, he should feel right at home with a mouse/keyboard or a controller. But you are right, the quests and world are not the same as TES games.

The controls are fairly standard for MMO's i don't think anyone would really struggle with that, i have both a controller and mouse/keyboard and use either as the mood takes me, and depending on the game, though i never actually tried to use my controller with ESO, i think the question of whether to wait for the console version or get the PC version really is a tough one though, its too early to say which version will be best, though usually its the PC version, can't see that changing tbh, the other thing is platform segregation, i still think the worst idea ever was seperating console and pc players, for FFXIV;ARR supporting multi platforms on the same servers is imo, one of the things that has made the game so successful, that ESO will not support this is imo, a huge backwards step, making the choice of console or pc for ESO  a far more complex issue than it should be. image

Huh, to me the controls are much different since you use the left and right mouse buttons to attack and block, while on typical games they are used to toggle camera control and such. I found it to be more like Tera than other games. I guess some people can adapt quicker, but I thought this was one of the problems folks have with the game in general, that it isn't like WoW.

    You can't simply say this.

First Oblivion, Morrowind, Skyrim were not created by the same group of people. Staff changes. Second everything is under the control of Zenimax; they simply set up a "division" to work on TESO. Just a profit centre not a different company. They have had to be "true"  to the ES IP; pretty sure when I checked last year some of the staff are common as well - everything under Zenimax after all.

However yes play the game to enjoy it.

    On PC or console however?

    • If you want something to play now - and TESO is it - then it has to be PC.
    • Console release is June - GW2 release should be later than this so that shouldn't be a problem if you opt to play on console.
    • You will have to pay the console membership if you go that route - may or may not be an issue of course.
    • PC being an "open" system will support add-ons; UI is/has been reworked but wouldn't expect add-on support
    • that said some people have had issues which may be due to add-ons (might not be but ...)
    • difficult to know how the servers will perform for the console release; Zenimax may have reworked some stuff under the bonnet; there can be performance spikes on the PC servers

Great game and best MMO out there in my opinion. I also would be hesitant to play an MMO on a console. My recommendation would be to get one of the controller support programs and play it on PC. The devs did confirm they will be releasing console controller native support for the PC down the road, but it will be after the console launch.
  • fivorothfivoroth Member UncommonPosts: 3,916

The game will be exactly the same on consoles. I know people who already use controllers to play ESO on PC, they just use a controller mapping programme. I am hoping that when the console version launches they will also add controller support to the PC version.

But I am sure you can tweak it and play it with controller now and there's no other reason to wait for the console version as it should be the same.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

I was also considering waiting for console version, due to native controller support and other PS4 features (remote play). But then I've assumed that add-on support for controller should be sufficient to try the game earlier and play it on PC.

Unfortunately, add-on + pinnacle profiler just couldn't match the native controller support (for me), so I've switched to KB/M and lost interest quickly.

TLDR: If you're used to playing games with controller, maybe you should wait for console version.

The game has soft aim you will hardly if ever miss if you just aim in the general direction. You do not need to play with the controller at all. The mouse and KB works fine.
