Just dropping by to let know of the latest news and goings on.

We had our latest community round table this weekend so I thought I'd spread the news over here.

Latest: http://twitch.tv/shardsonline

Also a quick rundown of some of the stuff that's been going on since the last discussions on these boards.

So if you've been following closely there may be some rehash, but if you are occasionally dropping in this should catch you up.

I believe the last time here we had the prototype for one of the metal crafting systems.

Resource Harvesting prototype is now functional. This allows players to gather specific resources in the world, from varying types. Dynamic/random spawns and  resource area types.

This will allow players to forage for herbs, mine for metal, cut trees for wood, harvest animals for hides and meat.

The extended aspect is resource dynamics such as the random spawn locations for herbs, and real world impact of harvesting. Trees can be chopped down, ore veins can dry up.

Cooking prototype is completed. Which of course required adding the eating system and all applicable dependencies. The fun part of cooking is that its a non-recipe system, so you can throw whatever you want into the pot and see what happens.

Salvage prototype is in. This allows you to recover raw materials from loot and gear to use in crafting.

Celador is shaping up nicely. The Black Forest, Quarry, Petra Village, Ruins, High Plains, are all fleshing out nicely. The Cemetery is well on the way as well. (I highly recommend checking out the screen shots or the video. )

New Beasties now roam the land.

Much optimization and overhaul for the game scripts and addition of some sweet tools for modders.

Dynamic Windows, Information tools, data set editors.

Quite a bit more support to allow modding for non-scripting modders.

Performance Optimization.

AI State Machine. (Also being made modder friendly)

Age Progression System for Animals and Creatures

Pack Behavior System for creatures

Equipment Dye/Tinting

Updated Road Map for ongoing development.

Thats about all I remember for now but the full story is continues at our site.

looks like draining a lot on server-power..

does SO have useable values of which engine specs are needed to just play this game smoothly?

and which stats are needed to create your own server?

We haven't gone though a whole lot of client and server optimizations yet and as such havent set the gameplay requirements and system specs.  The machine I normally run the client on is pretty low end, and the server will run off my laptop with 3 or 4 players full world without issue, Haven't tried it with more since i only did that to test in game systems i had been working on. That being said it'll probably be around or jus tbelow the spec requirements for similar clients.

The client machine I'm running is an Athlon X2 Dual Core with 2GB ram and a Geforce 250.

Grats! Server performance already better than Minecraft :)

Custom assets are slated for Alpha 3 on the development roadmap. Which would allow you to put in custom assets and change the graphics as much as you want.

As for changing the combat mechanics, you can change them, tweak them, rip them out completely and build your own system. That's all handled in script which is exposed for modders.
