It's only going to get worse from here.  If they aren't going to go P2W, sadly I HIGHLY doubt Zenimax will make enough money from selling motifs to not have to resort to cutting out more things from the game and slapping them into the cash shop. After all, if the game was doing well, they wouldn't have had to resort to this in the first place.

ESO's case, far as I can tell, is the former, so exp potions are no big deal. They're also no big revenue stream for Zenimax for that same reason (as people will cap themselves and their alts soon enough and thus not buy more exp potions), so I'm sure Zenimax will need to find other avenues of monetization for the cash shop because exp potion sales will definately not be enough to keep the game afloat.

How do you know its going to get worse? If anything the game is more crowded now than ever before. GW2 has prospered as a B2P game why not ESO? Arguably there are plenty of items in the GW2 cash shop that are p2w and for the countless people who play the game and avoid these forums, life is good.

The fact that they took away the sub as a requirement is currently a win in my book. How is this a negative thing at all? I can cancel my sub at any time and suffer no real negative effect to how I game. In fact there is nothing in the cash shop currently that I am remotely interested in buying since I already have a horse and can care less about cosmetics. Like many others I am saving my crowns for potential backpack/storage upgrades or eventually DLC's.

With the current state of the crown store I do agree with you and wonder how ESO will monetize the game after the influx of revenue from box/dl  sales. I have to believe they will start to offer borderline p2w items in the form of boosts etc, but so what? If someone wants to get to level cap more quickly god bless em. I am sure the ESO store will look a lot like the Gw2 store very soon because its a good working model that has proven successful without being too outrageous. I want ZOS to make a ton of money so I can keep looking forward to more development and keep playing until I find something better.

All this doom and gloom is not based on any facts being played out. I have played countless MMO's over the years and success and failure usually comes with many telling signs in-game. All of the signs currently point to ESO being a resounding success in terms of active players and retention. One simple benchmark for me has always been how well my guild(s) add and retain players. Both guilds that I belong to have done nothing but grow and retain the vast majority of its members for the last 6 months I have played. In fact one of my guilds has been nearly capped the whole time. Starter areas are still packed with players, bank hubs are all crowded dang near around the clock, even finding lock-boxes to pilfer takes some work due to all the new thieves.

I remember playing Vanguard on release and after the first month my guild was nearly cut in half. My experience with AC2 was even more pronounced. Both games also featured a lot of negativity in zone chat. Even games like DAOC and AC1 which were successful for years eventually showed obvious signs of a slow decline. Exactly the opposite is true with ESO currently.

The OP was about upgrades to the crown store. Lets have a discussion about that and avoid gross generalizations and negativity that offer nothing constructive to the conversation. There are already a plethora of discussions both supporting and bashing ESO. I get it you don't like the game, ZOS failed you, ESO will die miserably, blah blah blah, no one cares anymore. Find a game you enjoy and offer constructive comments that might add to your enjoyment. It can't be healthy to always focus on things you don't like.

For those who compare Gw2 with ESO B2P model, there is a significant difference. In GW2 you can change your ingame gold with gems, while in ESO you cant do the same with gold and crowns. This means that every single item in GW2 store can be purchased without real money, rather than ESO where you need real money for everything in crown store (not mentioning items that can be purchased also ingame as loot, rewards etc).

Considering there will be DLC's in ESO which will also cost real money, then imho its a totally different payment model and much worse than GW2, at least for the players.

It is also much easier to became P2W in some point, while your only option to pay for things in crown store is real money.

Anyway i m playing ESO for now and i can say i have great fun. Maybe more than i expected to have in the first place. Time will tell if ESO model will became a P2W or something you ll need to always spend money in.
