How is FFXIV? It's great! It offers many activities which simply do not exist in other mmorpgs. The graphics are amazing, the crafting and gathering is awesome, they add patches the size of mini expansions every few months, cash shop is not in the game but hidden on their account management page, expansion coming in a couple months. You can breed chocobos and race them against other players. There's a card game you can play with other players and NPCs around the world. There are hardly any bugs and the game works even on huge patch days. There are entire neighborhoods for player and guild housing. Chocobo stables and gardening and soon workshops and airship construction all at the house. Soundtrack is phenomenal. Have you ever wanted to play an mmo but stopped yourself because some hater on a forum said "only 500 thousand people play it right now"? I hope not.

Hater are all forms of places, when you said activities which simply do not exist in other mmorpgs is doing the same, but anyhow people think is maybe over 500K people when the expansions, I'm sure ff14 will have over a 1 million but right now it's not showing they have 4 million untill the report comes if it does. That what some people pointing out.
Here is a tip for for the 2 main defenders of the game that post here, the ones that know what the figures actually are as well as the rest of us that know the difference between subscribers and registered numbers or accounts and sales. Take it or leave it.
You know as well as I and others that certain figures are misleading and that some post it wrongly, if you own that and correct them then people like me won't have to correct them. If you own it, you take away its power. Also no, correcting it on page 5 when people have already had to come in and do it for you is not really doing that.
I and many others you classify as "haters" would not of even posted in this thread at all if an untruth was corrected by people that know better yet let it slide, don't say it wasn't seen because as I said before, some of you guys practically live here.
I'm not hating on FFXIV, I'm just telling it like it is. When I see someone say that FFXIV is the 2nd most profitable or has the 2nd most subscribers for any p2p MMO I have to correct them because it' is incorrect. The people that post here that love the game know this isn't true also but they like when people are confused about it. If a Wildstar or ESO player did the same we would call them on it too.
FFXIV IS an average MMO, it is average in every way including sub numbers and sales. Here is a major newsflash, there is nothing wrong with that at all. This isn't a goto the moon or go home situation. The game doesn't have haters, the players that defend against facts have haters.
Some FFXIV players seem to be incredibly insecure and have to use inflated numbers or mislead in order to feel good about their game, if you feel the need to defend the game against facts then you aren't really in a good position to defend anything.
I played FFXI for 4 years and I never saw this level of insecurity before, FFXI players played their game and just took the game with however many subs or players it had. They were not insecure if someone posted it actually had 100k subs instead of 500k
LOL getting desperate I see. Playing FFXI gives you sooooooo much credit. /sarcasm LMAO. Calling out people's BS is insecurity guys, learn something new every day. Who knew!!!!!!
You have so much truth in everything you say I tell ya!!!!!!!!! Don't make us laugh even harder, It's been laughable since your first response.
FFXIV is the best MMO on the market right now and is worth the time and money. You just need to get past the slow combat which does speed up and force you to think before pushing that next button. However you will only start to see this at level 30+.

For me how they did much there endgame and combat, so I didn't find it worth the time and money over free to play game atm, Not saying is worst game for others to play it, but it's more on how people look at the game and enjoy it, Anyhow combat way to slow for my taste to keep playing it to be the best my eye's it's not.
But there no best mmo out there in the market just what people like to play.

I look at what they have done. They added 12+ dungeons over the course of a year and a half, 5 raids, housing, casual player content, another Job. No other MMO has kept up this pace of content none. F2P games end up spending most of their development cycles on what they can charge for and WOW keeps finding ways to force everyone into raiding vs making different content for different people.
Thats why I say FFXIV is the best on the market. I also understand that combat could be slow for some people, the problem is most people who have a problem with it honestly never reach level 20 let alone end game. A lot of the content is tough at end game and makes you think before you push a button. This is what most players do not understand. They are too use to WOW's 1,2,3,4,5,6,6,6,6,6,1,2,3,4,5 rotations that they cannot get past the fact FFXIV is different combat.

I would not still say no mmo kept up the pace if I went out trying cut most mmo content then I be trying under mine FF14 what they have done now, but I am not going to do that it's good for them, on keeping up what there are doing, and I will not still say it's best in the market that just personal for the player thinking that.
I have got pass 30+ and combat have not change just add more button with slow waiting time, that don't make it better for me<---, it's not about trying get pass the idea is more trying to enjoy the idea with slow GD it's not working for me.
I m not going to argue with what other people think of XIV, as the question is directed to everyone and I not here to argue opinions. So in my honest opinion, it s a solid game with good updates of content, but to me anyways the content is been there done that content. I was hoping for a successor to FFXI with proper sub jobs, ala XI, missions for rank like XI did, GC missions feel bleh to me in comparison. A story like XI, not this sleeper of a story. DK that's not a tank, ugh IMO a dumb decision, Classes in XI just felt so much better. I loved the unlocking of classes, that was a challenge. Nowadays I could understand to make it solo or duo, but challenging. The only real challenge I find in this game is getting a fricken ward. I could go on and on, but just XI with new graphics is what I wanted, but instead it feels the opposite. As I stated that's my opinion, and I m not here to argue mine.

Yes Combat can be about .5 second faster anything else would be WOW spam combat. Lets just agree to disagree because Combat at high levels in FFXIV is not Combat at Level 13 soloing which everyone bitches about. Combat outside a half second is fine. I hate today's fast combat systems because they are truly nothing other than how fast you can spam a rotation not can you choose to use the right spell at the right time. Which use to be the case, now its spam rotations endlessly.
Play it, have fun, get tired, leave, come back. Rinse repeat.
I finished all of the endgame content in about a month so I'm just waiting until we hear more about the xpac before I decide to return. As of now, its not really worth returning to for me.

I wasn t expecting XI 2.0. Was hoping for some things similar. The story, missions rank with your nation/city and jobs alone would make the game better. IMO, they butchered them, and would have had a lot less XIV sucks going back to XI posts on many forums. I understand people love the ease of XIV and how less time consuming it is then XI, but, it isn t really even similar in anyway. Once again, wasn t saying XI 2.0, but have some similarities.

I'm pretty sure there were many posts about XI sucking on many forums as well. You can say that about any game.
I have to admit i have gone back to the game afetr being in game from release for 3months, and since the changes i am enjoying the game, the end game at moment seems a bit more varied.
However, I am back in game in preparation for the release in july, but for sake of 25 quid was well worth the 3 month sub, The game has tidied up a bit, but its all about personal choice, if you dont like the tab-click then wont be the game for you ever
but as a simple linear mmo its enjoyable and im enjoying my time back in teh world.

Well, to start off with "This FF sucks, I'm going back to this older FF" is par the course for FF since each one is different. Second, story is subjective. I didn't play but I have looked the story up an watched it - Vanilla is overly simple and dull with the Shadow Lord barely a threat and it falls flat without Zilart. Zilart was good and even got Aldo, Zied. and Lion involved. Chains was the best story they had but some of the narrative got a bit wonky in explaining the details. Aht's story was alright over all, Wings depended on it's twist really, and Seekers was mediocre at best.
FFXIV has a continuous narrative anyway instead of a standalone.
I can't speak up for missions and jobs - besides the fact that half of the jobs like Ninja were not even played like they intended.
I can't tell if you are calling FFXIV easy or not because time consumed doing nothing and time being able to do multiple things is not difficulty. If you removed the waiting times for those spawns, they would be just as easily killed as if you waited three hours there.
But, personally, when you try to replicate the feeling of one game into another, you are just going to be disappointed. Comparing it to the old version and going "doesn't got this, doesn't have that, I liked this better" is going into it negative and nostalgia glassified. You have to look at what its merits and its faults, and decide if you like that rather than thinking "I liked this older one so if it's like that, I'll like this!" Chances are, you probably spent more time hating the things you fondly remember now.
And, before anyone calls me a fanboy, I do think FFXIV needs improvments. Group quests would be nice, dungeons that are just there to be explored instead of an instanced mission, trials and battles that make use of end game gear outside of a raid (like say, solo primal battle that requires current end game gear to access or hunts that are as strong and complicated as Nael - from what I've heard), more mystery based quests with better rewards, more bag space, more house plots, the story should learn from past Final Fantasys that it's only battles are supposed to be boss battles and stop sending you on fetch quests and trash battles, Steps of Faith needs an auto-Duty Failed function where you auto fail if Vishap has too much HP at each gate, cutscenes need to have more voice acting and they need to be more animated instead of stiff, more interesting and chained FATEs, stealth missions, etc.
Play it, have fun, get tired, leave, come back. Rinse repeat.

If you want a Old School Sandbox MMO FFXIV will not be for you at any time. There are kickstarters coming out that will be sandbox MMOs however I doubt they will last long because when it comes down to it, todays MMO gamer will not survive in a sandbox MMO like UO or SWG. Both I played for several years before WOW. I can tell you that Sandbox MMOs will not work because I tried to get my friends who played WOW into UO and SWG, within 1 hour of playing and not knowing where to go and how to do things they all quit. Todays MMO gamer is too much into pick up this quest go here with Rift and FFXIV events going on. MMOs today even the kickstarts will need a few hundred thousand subs unless they go full pay to win to be able to make money or even be able to keep the servers on.
Sorry but old Sandbox MMOs are just not the answer and too many forum goers post over and over again, this game is a Themepark it sucks. Yet dont understand MMOs before WOW took a lot of time to understand and hours upon hours to get to where a person wanted to go. It will not work in a fast food MMO era. Thats why Themeparks are here, now FFXIV at least puts some Sandbox elements into their game.
I played the majority of the ARR beta (phase 2 on), didn't sub right then but wound up giving the game a go several months ago. It wasn't my cup of tea for a few reasons, but I can absolutely see why so many people have stayed with it. I do believe this is the only sub game other than you-know-who that can lay claim to having upwards of one million subscribers, and it's actually more than that. Their content additions have been impressive, and it does appear that Yoshi-P is heavily invested in what his players are asking for.
I played WoW and Gw 1 for years, was hoping ARR would be my new "main" game but some of its systems just rubbed me the wrong way, primarily the near-perfection required to finish instances and the lack of any real utility or differentiation from other players of the same class. That being said, again, this is an extremely polished, stable, well-done game. Next to Blade and Soul, I'd say this is the prettiest MMO I have ever played, hands down (I am still playing BnS so my opinion here is slanted, lol).
OP, I'd say it is absolutely worth a shot. You may love it, you may not, but it's most assuredly got enough stuff to do to help you to decide. Large player base and an economy in which you can actually sell most of your wares. Have fun!
"Why would I want to loose a religion upon my people? Religions wreck from within - Empires and individuals alike! It's all the same." - God Emperor of Dune
Wow. It's crazy that dude just asked a simple question to find out how a game is and it turns into a 9 page argument about subscription & account numbers. Oh internet....
Anyway OP, it's a decent enough game. As the few that actually posted to answer your question and not to argue pointed out; It's basically just a WoW style game with a FF skin. Regardless of sub numbers and registered accounts and all that, the servers seem to be packed with players with quite a few having queue times in peak hours. There is quite a variety of content nowadays, with even more coming in the next couple months when the expansion drops.
As I saw one guy post earlier, you should just try it out for yourself and see if you like it. Having a good amount of content & a healthy playerbase doesn't mean much if you don't find it to be fun.
Play it, have fun, get tired, leave, come back. Rinse repeat.

Personally, I think FFXIV just needs more early game stuff to do that isn't part of the typical same old, same old of a themepark. A good old fashion dungeon with puzzles and treasure.
Of course, there's also the problem with the Themepark mindset as well - if the game gives you a direction or a quest you should do it instead of you can do it. I would personally like to seem some quests not "pop" until you've had an actual discussion with the NPC, and some non-marked quests. Group based quests, some overworld bosses that actually feel like they came out of a dungeon, and unlock a lot more stuff before end game.
This game, in my opinion, is the best WoW out there. Whether you're hardcore into raiding, midcore gamer, casual, crafter, this game will likely please you in some way or form.

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

I still have yet to see anyone state a MMORPG that doesn't have a grind factor to it.
Have fun!
