Sorry, I have a hard time believing anything Smedly says. And if Landmark is any indication, EQN is going to go into a rushed early-alpha to capture some fans/cash, and then linger on in an unfinished stupor for years until everyone forgets that it ever existed.

I still don't see any evidence that EQN is anything more than fancy tech-demos, hype, and promises.

    Also, The Agency. That's all.

As far as H1Z1 goes it was made by SoE which had twice the staff and was funded by Sony - who as we know wrote off $60M.

And it was released by SoE and whatever money it earned from the initial sales will have been factored into whatever price was agreed between CN and Sony. Since then the peak player number (on Steam graphs) has fallen to c. 10-12k and is still tending downwards. Not a number that suggests huge inflows of money.

That said Smed / DBG has said that EQN will release this year. And I have no reason to doubt.

If I were running CN I will have set aside a sum of money, when agreeing the price with Sony, for 12 months. Think of it like buying a house that needs some renovation: you factor it into the price.

And because setting a budget for 12 months is not untypical my inclination is that the EQN development team have been given 12 months. So by next Feb - for all intents and purposes - this year. In time for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And if not - well I feel CN will have made it clear that they will not running up internal losses like Sony did; that there will be no more "$60M" write offs. That - at some point - if the game isn't released the EQN team will be axed . CN, from a business perspective, will want to know one way or another. Does EQN have legs or will it be a bit player.

    Now what will release .......

Only date given on release was when Smed was asked to guess when EQN would come out. "Umm 2015" I would not take that as a solid date. Also since that guess DGC devs have added more and more to whats on their table and now with less staff. IMO, I would guess we may see an Alpha build by 4Q this year to 1Q next year and thats a at best scenario. MMOs change a lot in development and EQN by the DGC devs words is more RD then most games they have worked on. So time frames are due to change a lot. My guess is we will get a solid release date sometime mid to late 2016, Im saying a date they will give us a date. Not that the game will release then. We have a long way to go on this project from what I am seeing here.

EDIT: Also the Lead Dev team has been very clear, they are not rushing this game. They will be done when they are done. IMO thats the right way to go. I think they only have 1 shoot at this. They need to make sure their release is stellar.

You can bet your ass we will NOT see EQNext this year.  We haven't seen shit on it yet.  Not gonna release this year at all.
  • WizardryWizardry Member LegendaryPosts: 19,332
They will certainly rush this game out.The only reason it will not be rushed out by year 2/3 is because they have such a small team, they could not afford enough people on Next as well as their other games. They claim to be releasing more games in near future, obviously for more cash grab as nothing else is making them any money right now,h1z1 has run dry.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Familiar post. When I tested SWG Alpha we told each other and to the devs the game was not ready for release. They even agreed on that.

It did not prevent SOE execs from releasing the game in such a poor state though.

If H1Z1 is any indication of what Smed/SOE/Daybreak has been up to recently, as well as the EQN reveal and what we've seen thus far in Landmark...

I highly doubt I'll be impressed by anything they tell us about EQN.

Well, I like the battle royales though in H1Z1. But everything else in that game is just 'meh'.

This is probably the most accurate depiction of H1Z1 I have ever seen:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4reJu-XaVwo

In both the gameplay and the play base.

And people have faith that EQN is going to be something other than crap when THIS ^ is the best they can do?

who can serious believe JS 's words ? I had a sub when they cancelled Agency, when they closed SWG, when they closed VG...played H1Z1 2 days ago, 9/10 european servers were low. Only battle servers are high. Landmark's servers are low since the beginning, we have NO informations about EQN. DB fired employees, fired the leaders...

Why are people still commenting on a story that is over a month old?  This is old news... next.

Yes because the MMO landscape has completely changed and its shortcomings have all been solved in the last month, there is no need to discuss the problems of the past now that they are all solved.....

Lets all remember not to discuss anything that was mention more than 30 days ago ever again, it really bothers Jack.

Finishing and releasing a game is not the same as people wanting to play it.

I'd like to hear more about what's going to hook players for years? What are they improving upon? How will the classes interact? What has been their biggest hurdle? Are they making an actual MMORPG or an action game with MOBA mechanics?

I don't want to listen to a car salesman. Call me when something tangible is revealed.

Good job John Smedley. While players thought your company SOE/Daybreak actively worked on EQN the last 2 years your company indirectly said the other day that you lured us all and your company focused more or less only on Landmark (minecraft like game). Good job. We have great confident in everything you say.

At least Smedley is saying "you just wait and see" instead of ....oh hey here is a pre-build of a game used to make a pre-build of a game, please support us and come make content for us, and, and...

At least he is showing some confidence which I haven't seen from him in a while and saying..you just wait and see....

Seems to me they are working instead of talking which is a good sign. Hope Smedley can pull one more rabbit out of his hat, cause through all the up and downs he kinda deserves another chance and for once i'm somewhat hyped after that statement.

Don't blow it Smed....your legacy depends on it and yeah, this is kinda your last chance.

Can we please not respond to the dead threads?   This one was a month old, when someone just bumped the thread without adding anything new to spur old news.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.
