its aen enjoyable game, is it worth the sub, well that is upto you..
i personally buy 3month subs play it for 3months then due to the nature of cuddly MMO tend to go awol for a few months... so on
but it is still very busy around, lots of things to do, i enjoy it and do think its worth the sub if your into that fantasy styled game / or final fantasy fan
This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.
Use this code for 21days trial in eve online https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=d385aff2-794a-44a4-96f1-3967ccf6d720&action=buddy
To be honest it depends what you're looking for. I'd say it is similar to WOW (but in a good way -- I do not like WOW and I like FFXIV), with GW2 Dynamic Events (FATEs), the ability to play any class on 1 character. It has some systems that are sort of refreshing. I'd also say that being #3 Top Voted Games on MMORPG.com has to have some credibility.
I actually resubbed again yesterday. I find it to be more enjoyable than anything currently out.
If you'd like to decide for yourself they have a 14 day free-trial.

There is another thread that appears to be discussing the same topic here:

'Worth it' when it comes to a game like this is a subjective thing. I personally would say yes it is worth it. It is an excellent example of the type of game it is. It isn't my taste in MMORPG, but it is the best themepark questgrinder on the market right now, in my opinion of course.
Try out the trial, only you will be able to determine if it's worth a sub fee or not. Just to give you a little information on it:
Play the trial, I honestly don't see what this game has going for it. I think people are just that bored to be honest. Not much else out there which is why I went back in hopes of getting back into it for the expansion. I subbed for 2 months, couldn't even make it the 2 months. I wont bash the game cause it seems A LOT of people like it, but I will fill you in on some things you can expect to see. And some things you wont get to see in the trial cause you are locked out of it.
Biggest problem I feel this game has is that their is no sense of adventure. All the zones are tiny little maps full of winding paths and invisible walls. All the dungeons and raids (Up to a certain point) have been spammed so many times by the players that they have it down to a science. Where the tank stands (Usually against a wall...) where the rest of the party stands (to avoid being hit by absolutely anything). They added hunt monsters since the last time I played which are essentially "Rare Spawns" that you will find in other games (In WoW they were Elites, FFXI they were Rare spawns). I put this in quotations because there is really nothing rare about them. There are 3rd party websites dedicated to the tracking and timing of these monsters spawn times and what zone they are in so all you have to do is ride around on your chocobo in the small zone and find it. S class hunts (which are the strongest) so many people show up that its not even a fight. Just a bunch of bright lights and a dead monster.
I will admit this game has an enormous amount of end game content. But that creates as many problems as it does answers in my opinion. I have been in multiple active free companies where all of the players are always doing different things. Because there are so many things to do whether it be coil, or grinding light, or farming tomes, gearing up, etc. No one was ever partying. It was very seldom that I actually saw more then 2-3 people from a large free company group together to do something and then they just que for the rest of the group. And a lot of the time the other 2 players didn't even need to do that dungeon or raid they just offered to help. Which is great! There is an amazing community on this game, everyone is really nice. (Some are really weird!). But the fact of the matter is if no one is doing anything together then what is the point? I see lots of level 50's who aren't even in free companies. They got a linkshell or 2 and that's all they need. Linkshells divert from the need for a guild, and guilds provide nothing other than small chat and some minor buffs (+10% exp usually).
No one is different. Every white mage has the same spells as other white mages. There is only one smart way to spend your attribute points from levelling. And in the end, everyone is wearing the same gear. The only difference is some people will "glamour" it to make it look like something else (usually something that covers less skin). With no talent tree's, no specs, no class customization its just a bunch of clones running around trying to look pretty.
I am sure there are many people who will try to disagree with me on the things I have said here. These are just my experiences and opinions. I was already level 50 from the last time I played so I jumped right into all the good stuff. Cause really.. this game begins at end game. You can get to 50 on your first character in under 3 weeks easy if you are doing your daily roulettes after 16. And then the monotony begins. I played Tera at release. Endgame there was 2 dungeons to grind. And I grinded the shit out of them with my guild and we had a blast, sometimes all you need is good people to make a decent game great. But that's something I'm just not finding on FFXIV, everyone is really nice. But to me it seems like no one is having fun. Just drones moving from one stage to another. Watching videos to learn dungeons and raids. Not for me, no thank you.
If you decide to try it, I hope you have a better experience then I. Square Enix is a great company and I wanted to support them. I played FFXI for nearly a decade. But I just cant get behind this one.
Much of what you said has been addressed in patches save for the size of areas -- which is something they are changing in the expansion. In addition, Hunts (particularly S ranked) changed a lot as well (and fewer people partake in them), with S ranked hunts only appearing under specific conditions such as rain, the time of day, the day of the month, lightning (weather conditions), collection or slaying of mobs, fishing up something, etc. They are also implementing Flying Mounts, which negates the minor amount of invisible walls that exist (by comparison to the Alpha and Beta versions).
Additionally, the storyline in the patches have really made the game feel like it gives you an experience now.
I don't know when these "Patches" happened seeing's as I was just playing 2 weeks ago. From everything I have read (which is a lot) they are not changing the current zones. The new Heavansward zones will be much larger yes obviously. To accommodate flying mounts which will ONLY be able to be used in the new Heavansward zones. So how you think that they will negate invisible walls that exist now is beyond me. I knew that people would disagree with some of the things I said but there is really no merit in any of your arguments. Just a bunch of stuff you made up on the spot. Sorry if you don't agree with everything I said but as I said these are MY experiences and opinions. You claim much of what I said has been addressed but only mention hunts (which have not been addressed) maybe your server is less populated and therefor 150 people don't show up? and size of areas (which will not be addressed only added to with expansions).
Just to let you know that $13 sub is first month introductory price; it's still $15/month after that.
Never knew how this game would survived, I really don't like the game. The reasons? You will see soon.
I'd say you hit the nail on the head. Honestly ANY kind of way to differentiate yourself from the herd would be nice. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening because as you said, it's designed with mmo neophytes in mind.
That being said it's a great themepark game with the final fantasy flare and a good story. Nothing revolutionary about it, but damn well done.
I suppose the things that stand out the most from other games are the crafting and gathering, which are excellent because they are their own mini-games with crafting gear and abilities coming into play, juggling finishing a product vs HQ'ing it, etc.
The only actual change listed was hunt mobs. Typical "give them the good stuff, and hope they don't ask questions" mentality. Where you hoping they would play the game and then find out later that ONLY heavensward zones are larger? Because eventually they would find out. Don't know if it's intentional or not....but be more clear if you're going to give info to someone brand new please.
Looks like i opened pandorax box here
But nice with some argue that shows people interrests in giving me a good answer.
Keep it up. I just installed it and pressing Play ...now !
Playing - FFXIV, ESO
Played - FFXI, WoW, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, Aion, SWToR, LotRO, GW2, TERA, Rift, ArcheAge, TSW
This poster is correct.
Also, it has a much faster development cycle than WoW (making you wait 1 year + for new content at each ex pack) and it has a very active and communicative development team that is very involved in the player base.
It's also home to a far better story and art style.
I am current lvl 9 and i like the game so far..i can see some quest areas seems small and perhaps there is alot of dialog quest that cant be skipped, but the gfx and gameplay looks good and the movements of the character feels ok compared to many fail mmorpg that use stiff and clumsy movements or mechanics.
Also the details on the character and the enemies is also great..beside some of the gear i got now looks ridicules
But i can see th egame cost 10 eu for pc download and comes with 30 days free sub before they charge you.
Also there seems to be some expansion with new class and race for 35 eu called heavensward coming 23/6 -2015
So thats total 45 eu for a decent game and then the fee each mouth, but i dont drink or smoke. So i got to spend money on something that holds my interest.
