Unfortunately no Char customisation in SQ42 - will be done in the end of the campaign when you see yourself the first time in a Mirror -- I guess this is done cause the player will be a part of preRendered Cinematics.
And they didn't mentioned facial animations/expression at least I couldn't find it

Looking at this mocap making off video and the facial markings and the tech in front of the faces of the actors, i am quite sure that facial expressions are part of the FPS module.

And facial animations ARE already build into the CryEngine - i am quite sure they will use that existing part of the engine.
Clarification on character customization in Squadron 42 - choosing your physical look IS possible.

"I wanted to clarify this - Squadron 42 won't let you customize your character in the change-their-clothes/decorate-their-lives sense, but the plan is still to have you choose your gender and physical look at the start."

utterly crazy cool, can´t wait to get my grabby sweaty hands on it
SC FPS is more like ARMA, tactical. So, COD/BF kids will hopefully stay out
although I read somewhere it might be less tactically challenging with light/outlaw armor so I guess, choose your playstyle.
