Gametap question..please help

starstorm777starstorm777 Member UncommonPosts: 114
Sorry, but been trying to contact Gametap support to no avail for weeks on end, the email does not work and neither does their phone number, anyway, I only have one problem, I am running out of space on my C: drive for games. How do I download the games to an external drive? I have no clue where they are even being stored by default? Can someone guide me please? thank you!

Did you look into the settings of the program? Often you can just change where games are installed.

There is no settings, it's not a program, it installs from the web....to the harddrive and I have no clue where it is going..it just says downloading when it does.

The game files are probably located in C:Users(UserName)AppDataLocal(companyname)  or (gamename)  OR  in ...AppDataLocalLow(companyname)  or (gamename).

You can't just move the game directory elsewhere. You would have to move the whole C:Users... directory tree. I do NOT recommend attempting this.

To do this safely would require moving this directory tree immediately after a brand new install of the Windows operating system.  If you want to find out how moving such Special Folders can be done then you can start here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/win7-how-do-i-move-user-folder-to-a-different/565f16a5-e5ed-43c9-8422-4f56aebb296e

AND it is impossible to move and use these Special Folders in the manner Windows intends them to be used to an external drive.

The files can be in many places  program files ...program files (x86)...Downloads folder which might be under  C: Users "your name" somewhere in there or in one of the other folders under C: Users,or might even be just in the C folder.

ok well thanks so much I looked everywhere and have no idea where the files are located....even if I found them, I cannot move them because I still must launch them from the web, and it will search for them in the default directory then if not found it will re-download them again to the default directory, so I am at a loss here :(

Well I figured it out....it was because JAVA is no longer supported in Google Chrome..that's why I couldn't see the download player that was supposed to install LOL...anyway, tech support FINALLY did get back to me about where to install the games just in time, I had to download Mozilla Firefox to get the thing to work, so if anyone has this issue ..that's your solution :) ~*~ the player itself, right click it ...it will be an icon on the right bottom of your screen by your clock and change directory from there.... :)

You usually can move it and create a shortcut to the new location. Usually the launcher have an .exe file you click to start the game unless it runs on steam (that complicates things). Steam should have an option somewhere for it but (I have to admit that I havn't bothered with it myself, my SSD is pretty large).

Another simple solution would be plugging in a new harddrive and just add it to your C: partition (I strongle recommend that the drives are similar in speed though, mixing an SSD with a slow "green" drive could give you problems.

You could also just buy a larger drive and clone the C: drive over with a cloning program or Shadowcopy.

Cleaning out your C: drive with something like YAC should be your first thing to do, it is very simple to use. Just first clear unneccesary harddrive space and then use the uninstaller to uninstall stuff you don't use and the stuff you already have gotten rid off (yeah, Windows uninstaller suck and leaves a lot of things that can take up loads of space).

Better? Define better, and explain why 40-45% of the people on the internet are wrong for using Chrome.
