Looking for PVE Grouping game

NovaPNovaP Member Posts: 2

With the long weekend coming up and having vowed to take a month off League of Legends I'm looking for a new MMO to play.  My favorite MMO was EQ2 pre SOE where they decided to make the game casual friendly (aka solo friendly).

My favorite part of MMO's is the Multiplayer part.  Ideally i would like to be able to group up as much as possible to get to level cap.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I really tried but I don't think there is a newer MMO left where you can level up by doing PvE group content most of the time. You can try EQ99 or the new EQ progression server, maybe some other old fashioned MMOs are still running somewhere. But most evolved like EQ2 did and are now mostly solo MMOs.

It's really a challenge nowadays to find a MMO with PvE group content. Most are based around solo PvE with some optional instanced group PvE.

Good luck on your search. If you find one please leave a message here as I would be interested. ;)

You would need to play with friends or in a large guild that's big on grouping.  That way nearly any game will fit the bill unless it's a game that has problems with phasing.

Even if you did find one, where are you going to get a group? Groups are made through trust and shared experiences. trust that the person won't leave the group to say go back to playing LOL, and make the others in the group stop playing because they aren't enough to play anymore. And the shared experiences comes from playing with a group and proving that everyone in it is going to put the group first and not run off with the loot at the first opportunity or completely slack off and let all the others do all the work until it comes time to collect the rewards...

Of course, once you realize you can't just bouncy-bounce into a good group in a game like old EQ and just bouncy-bounce back out again because you want to play something else you begin to get a glimpse of why most games are solo friendly now.

'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

Nothing is certain when it comes to grouping, unless you have a tight group of friends, as emergencies come up at times.  But there are guilds that are very much into leveling by grouping and some that are very friendly to working with new players.  That's why I suggested a very large guild as you can more easily find people who are willing to group.

The closest thing in a modern MMO may be FFXIV, as you need to complete group content to progress your story. Unfortunately, outside of that, most of it is soloing.

    This^^^^^^

A lot of the endgame requires grouping. Unless you just do golden saucer/pvp/etc.

    Yep, FFXIV and Wizard101.

You want to play a PvE grouping game?  Join any PvE game and find or make a group and voila there's your PvE grouping game.  That's all there is to it because all PvE MMOs are potentially PvE grouping games.  What you are in essence really asking for is a "forced grouping" PvE game.  And thankfully they are no longer designing those.  Do you know why?  Because that concept old, stale, and basically just a failed business model for today's gamer demographic.  It only worked in the days of EQ1 and FFXI because that is all there was to play.  But no one wants to go back to standing (or jumping around) in some major city hub spamming LFG for sometimes hours.  And should you get lucky to eventually find a group, I wish you better luck in keeping it in tact for a long enough period of time to warrant your waiting and have a little fun. I really wish these folks would take off their rose colored glasses about these "forced" grouping games.  There is a reason, and a very good one, why Wow became so popular at their time.  And that was made predominantly possible because Wow was really the first MMORPG that allowed for solo play.  After that, every game began copying WoW and the rest is history as far as the MMORPG genre is concerned.

Sadly FFXI was THE best grouping game ever and still imo the best mmorpg ever. However nothing but GREED changed that game into a speed leveling frenzy to sell xpacks.

I have been on an endless search for another grouping game but none exist that i know of .it is always grouping to raid instances, something i am in no way interested in.

I know i could go play on illegal servers to get back that feeling ,but i don't like illegal servers...period.

I wish Square Enix would have LISTENED  and just upgraded the graphics and did some tweaks to FFXI and NOT force the speed leveling to sell xpacks to fund the making of FFXIV.

BTW i played a LOT of EQ2,imo the best game at linear questing, miles better than WOW in almost every aspect, but linear questing has bored the heck out of me.I feel like some  race horse with blinkers on chasing around yellow markers over npc heads and heaving tons of hand holding markers like i am some dummy that needs his hand held.

Who knows maybe someone will once again get the MMO+RPG right, but i don't think that si happening for a long time.I have been gaming a very long time,i have seen every market trend along the way and this current trend is the worst ever.Every game design is about easier access, easier leveling, linear questing and very shallow combat depth and shallow game depth.

Bandwagon jumping is the IN THING,not just gamer's but game design.Remember the Farmville craze, tons jumped on that, survival games, zombies ,red carpets ,early access, crowd funding, unfinished products, the current game industry is atrocious.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

They should actually make another one of those, even if it was just to remind some people of the downsides.

Kinda like Wildstar with its 40 man raids.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
