General: Bard's Tale IV a Reality - Kickstarter Planned

inXile Entertainment has announced that it will be starting a Kickstarter initiative for Bard's Tale IV that will begin on June 2nd. Not coincidentally, that date marks the thirtieth anniversary of the original release of the first Bard's Tale game.

On the 30th anniversary of the original Bard's Tale, what better time than now to go on an adventure worthy of song? The Bard’s Tale IV will feature challenging maze-like dungeons with devious puzzles and riddles to explore in the first-person dungeon crawler style of the original trilogy. inXile has the full rights to use everything from the original trilogy, so the game will be rich with callbacks and old favorites such as teleporter zones and magic mouths.

Check out more on the Bard's Tale IV site.

Wait, bard's Tale IV? thats 4, there were 2 more Bard's tale after the first one (2 and 3)? I didn't even know that. I'll have to take a look at those.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Yes, there were classic Bard's Tale 1-3, then there was that awful horrible remake thing with the name a few years back.

I hope this one is the classic updated to modern standards rather than that reboot horror.

Since it has the designation IV, it probably is based on the classic.

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

    FINALLY!

My brother and I have such fond memories of the classic Bard's Tale series. I first played Bard's Tale on a friends Apple IIgs and I was hooked on computer role playing games from that moment on. My brother bought an Amiga 500, which was in my opinion the best version of Bard's Tale, and I played the heck out of it. I look forward to seeing what the Kickstarter reveals.

Loved those old Bard's Tales games, especially the third one. Fighting Nazis, casting armageddon spell (did 10K damage IIRC!), and my thief was totally overpowered, basically one-shotted the final boss with a backstab. If I dig around my junk from 30 years ago I might find the book of hand-drawn maps of the dungeons...

I suppose it's like with the latest Shadowrun Kickstarter campaign (Hong Kong): they have money for a game, but if they get more money up front, the game will be a lot better.

Wasteland 2 cost a lot more than what people paid on Kickstarter. Torment is probably also costing a lot more. So it's hard to tell the financial situation is at inXile right now. Regardless, getting money up front always translates into a larger scope for the game.

I played Bard's tale on a whim,i had heard it was one of the good early pioneers.I was very disappointed, not very good at all,so i would hope this newest version is a huge step up in quality or i won't be taking notice.

IMO dungeon crawlers are far too simple and linear and then ends up boring. With dungeons you have very  narrow passages,no way to avoid anything so it becomes super linear game play. Also what kind of puzzles can you incorporate into a small narrow passage, not like anything could be missed or even tough to figure out.I have played several games doing this and the puzzles were never meaningful or fun, just simple hand holding with sparklies showing you exactly what to do.

There is a reason i want advanced tech in my games,it opens  up the world and choices and physics.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Hope it's not a continuation of the gay remade version.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
