Haven t been playing long, but just wondering if a Templar can be a decent hybrid, ie heal and dps. I don t want to be a pure healer, but want to have some for duoing with my wife. If so, are there any builds out there for that role.
Yes Templar are good heal/dps. Restoring Light line allows you to heal without a healing staff. Mix in a few of those and you can be melee/bow/staff dps (depending on what you want). Dawns Wrath has some abilities for a caster type dps and Aedric Spear is your more melee dps line.
It is possible to swap between DPS and heals in PvE with gear changes and stacking magicka as others have said. In PvP burst damage is going to be harder do you have to play more of a DPS support buffing and debuffing and then using an execute to help finish off.
Templar can do all 3 things well and if specced properly, all 3 at once.
Just use Rushed Ceremony > Breath of Life to heal yourself and your wife.
Many Templars use a healing staff also even if they're not using the skills from that line because the healing staff with the right passives regenerates the most magicka from heavy attacks.
I'd recommend 1HD and Shield for your other weapon for all the block cost reductions and blocking passives and Defensive Posture > Defensive Stand to reflect spells back to mages, hurt and stun them. Good skill for both PVE and PVP.
Use 5 pieces of light armor for magicka regen and bonuses and chest and legs heavy for more damage mitigation.
Breton or Altmer are the best 2 races for a magicka (and you want to be magicka for good heals) Templar.

Healing ritual heals you and everyone around you.
Stack magika and you are good to go. TBH with ritual healing and breath of life I can heal basically anything, rest of the skills dps. Too easy...
This games min/max overload is so out of line with the original intent that almost everything is too easy now.
