Questions about WoW.

WishWish Member Posts: 31

Okay I've got some questions to you WoW players before I buy the game and start paying for it since I can't have access to their forums.
-What is fun about the game?
-What is the most fun class to play?(In you opinion)
-Are there guild wars?
-Is this a game where when you train and walk around you are around other people, not like Guild Wars where it's single player when you train unless you party(reason I quit)?

Thanks, I hope these can be answered.

    OK.

The game itself will be a little akward in my opinion starting off at this point in the game since 75% of all players are level 60 and doing the end game stuff or PVP.

You can solo from level 1-60 w/o much trouble at all. TONS OF QUESTS and things to do on ur way through the levels. The grind isn't bad at all.

The world is NOT LIKE GUILD WARS. You will randomly run into players across the world while ur out and about doing ur thing.
There are INSTANCES in the game where u can go in solo or get a party together to take it on. Every instance in the game has mini bosses and one final boss. These usually yield rarer items than killing in the main world.

The game is HIGHLY addictive if you enjoy this type of game.

I'm currently taking a break from the game (not on my own choice. "MY" pc died, and i'm using my wifes junker till i get money saved for a new one)

Just give it a try. atleast for the 30 days it's worth your money.

Most games are worth the 30 days free to try it. Think of the average Game you buy for the PS2 or Xbox, you play it for what? 60 hours gametime? and lets say you play 4 hours a day 5 days a week for the 30 days... thats more than you'll play that ps2 game you spent ur 50$ on.... and u might enjoy this enough to support the manufacturer by paying for a month or 2 and keep those Customer Service Reps happy with minimum wage jobs! :)

don't worry about the not finding newbiesi n WoW. There are plenty, the game has been (and still is) in the top ten selling lists of the whole world since it came out (and number 1 until last month, now number 3). So there are plenty of new people all the time, plus all the veterans will do alts.

As a matter of facts when i restarted for fun as a dwarf, the place was not empty at all, but with a good selection of people.

There are NO guild wars in WoW (sadly).

Can they attack anywhere? the answer is always "no", but the details are different depending on what server you are in. It is always valid that as long as you are in your faction controlled territories (6 for alliance and 5 for horde, the areas around the capital and one another, for level 1-20 people mostly.), you can't be attacked by anybod as long as you do not flag yourself for PvP, thing you can do by attacking enemies flagged for pvp or by healing/rezzing/helping a friend that has the flag on.

Then things become different. On PvE/RP servers, this is valid anywhere. No matter where you are, they can't attack you if you do not want.

On PvP servers, once out of home regions, you can be attacked by anybody of the enemy faction.

As for the most fun class to play, that is hard to say. One of the great things about WoW is the care and quality they dedicated to them. so instead of having 44 classes, all very similar to each other, you have 9, but with a lot of perks and differences.

I would suggest Druid as a starter, if nothing else cause reached level 20 (a relativly painless experience) you can experiment with 3 different type of gameplay: Warrior/Bear, Healer/Druid and Rogue/Cat.

    Have a nice day.

I have to say i enjoyed the heck out of this game for a while, but then i got super bored of it, so i started a new character, then i was entertained. But now im getting bored of it. Usually you can start a new character when u get bored but its the same stuff over and over. I enjoy games where u have to party to do lots of quests and stuff. This game is solo based. Its just like going out and buying an adventure game, but add a bunch of ppl and pvp. I have to say the pvp was probably the best part of this game. I love the battle grounds, but i dont think that they will keep me in it.

Hope i didnt put a downer on your spirit

I played wow for 3 months before quitting it, and I created a mage and a paladin.

I had much more fan with the Paladin, even with that, I did not like the game at all, once you are lvl 60 the only think you can do is PVP or start a new character to do again about the same quests.

If you are looking for a game to enjoy longer that 6 months, i suggest you to go for a different choice.

My want for WoW is lowered. Can someone suggest a game with longterm fun?

Don't be discouraged just because he didn't stay with WoW, it doesn't mean you won't if you get it. World of Warcraft is a great PvE game, still fairly new and is still being developed by the patches. Not only do you have the job of getting to level 60[can be easy, can be hard, depends how much you play] but there is still in my opinion much to do when you get there. The Honor system does have some flaws but if you PvP actively on a PvE server[raid, play battlefields] you will have fun with its rewards. Even better is the ability to play in Dungeons again and again and still have fun, Also i personally like the fact of how you have many factions which you can bring you reputation up in to get rewards[better items, better things for your professions ect.].

So from me personally i suggest getting WoW and giving it the 30-day trial at least, All the classes are fun to play[especially Druid for me] and the PvE is great to me. PvP does need work though, so if PvP is what turns you on the most then you should look into another game.

First off, don't let the opinion of one or two people influence you too much (including what I'm about to say).

I personally enjoy playing WoW.  If you're a powergamer, you hit lvl 60 fast.  Combat is fast paced, crafting is a little too simple for me...quests are enjoyable, but you see repetition after a while.

The main thing with WoW is to find a good group of people to play with (I find this the key in almost every MMO I've ever played), otherwise I would find it boring.

WoW is a good game...Blizzard does very well to blend elements that are proven to be work in other MMO's and make them work together in a nice game.

Now I can't vouch for the Honer System or Battlegrounds due to the fact I'm current without internet at my house (posting from work...damn I love this job), but once I do get internet back on I'll have my account reactivated that night.

    Wow rocks. Blizzard does not.

Until level 60 WOW is a fun game. After that you might as well be playing EQ.

I have 3 characters on WoW, a 54 rogue, a 35 hunter and a 35 priest.  There is not class that I think is more fun than the other, suprisingly.  I seriously enjoy playing all of them equally.  THey all have aspects that make them really cool.  The game itself is highly addictive and a great time.  If the quests alone don't get you, then the instances, raids, pvp, battlegrounds, and thriving economy will.  I've been playing since January(6 months) and still play WAAAAY more than I should every week.  I recommend snagging a couple characters instead of just picking one to get to 60 as fast as possible, to avoid those complaints of staleness.  There is no shame in having a character that's not a God.  But, personally, I think it's the best game I've played since Final Fantasy 7 or Super Mario Bros. 3.

    Good luck.

Well you are right, it is fun to play up to lvl 60 (the problem comes there) but I am not sure the solution is to avoid leveling up because there is no way to play without lvl up (as you can no PVP before lvl 60) so, the only way to avoid lvl up is not to play B)

People who don't quit at level 60 start alts, so you will have plenty of people to play with 1-59 :P.

All depends on  your taste really, but I can tell  you the most popular classes.  Rogues are the top of the list, paladins are also very popular.

There are no guild wars per-say.  Well at least that you won't know because the way PvP is handled in WoW are by 2 main factions (Alliance and Horde).  And both factions cant communicate with each other, just fight each other.  You can duel each other, but if  you are on PvE server you can't get freely be attacked (Unless you flag yourself for it).  PvP server is a different story.

That was my experience as well. The problem is that they tried to make a game that appealed to both solo-oriented players and group-oriented players, but instead of making it fun for both types all the way through the game, they made 1-59 the soloer's dream and everything after 100% grouping (with the exception of pvp). The end result is that group-oriented players burn out quickly, while soloers reach level 60 and then leave or start over. In essence, they tried to please both and ended up pleasing neither. Granted, those players who enjoy both types of play will have something to do and enjoy for quite awhile, but the gear you get from raiding at 60 really isn't good for anything unless you pvp. Therein lies the problem; WoW's long-term fun is based almost entirely on pvp. If you love pvp, terrific. If you don't, WoW is a nice place to visit, but you won't want to live there.

    Things WoW does well

    • Quests- There are a lot of them. Lots and lots and lots and lots of them. The types of quests are pretty standard, but most of them are actually worth reading, provide very good experience, and offer worthwhile rewards.
    • Graphics (debatable)- Some people say they're too "cartoonish," but I found I really liked them They weren't photo-realistic, but they were very bright, colorful and stylized. The different areas had very unique and atmospheric details, which made exploring quite a bit more enjoyable.
    • Buying/Selling- I suppose auction houses are pretty much the norm these days, but World of Warcraft's is very functional. It couldn't be easier to sell things you've found or to buy things you need. There's some pretty bad lag in the auction houses during peak hours, but nothing that can't be dealt with.
    • Travel- It's quite easy to get wherever it is you want to go, provided you've been there once before. I wouldn't say it's on par with the gate/portal/recall system of Asheron's Call, but it's close. Furthermore, traveling is actually quite enjoyable, providing an experience much like Everquest's "boat" system, but with much less delay.
    • Loot- As with quests, there's a lot of it. Lots and lots and lots and lots of it in every shape and form you can imagine. If you like finding neat stuff after thwacking baddies, this is your game.
    • Classes (Usually)- It was my experience that every class I played had a very different feel to it. Each class had its strengths and weakness, but each was very playable and usually enjoyable. Patches do change class abilities pretty regularly, but nothing has every been completely intolerable. (The exception might be instance-bound hunters at level 60, simply due to lack of desirability for all instances but one).

Things WoW does poorly (in my opinion)

    • Long-term appeal- If you enjoy pvp and grouping, you can skip this part. For the most part, however, there is absolutely no way to improve your character upon reaching level 60 other than A) PvP, and B) going on Instance (quest dungeons) raids. In order to go on instance raids, you must have a group or you will be reduced to a smear on the floor the moment you set foot in door. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the only real reason to improve your character is so you'll be able to stand a chance in PvP or so you'll be able to survive in a harder instance. So basically, if you stuck with the game until 60 because you enjoyed solo pve, you'll find everything you liked about the game is permanently gone. Since reaching level 60 is quite simple to do, this presents a real problem.
    • PvP(?)- I don't pvp personally, so I can't really comment on this in depth. There is apparently a strong feeling in some circles that WoW pvp is heavily simplified. I'm not sure if that's coming from your average pvper or from Unreal Tournament folks, however, so take that with a grain of salt. I do know that some classes are just plain better suited to it than others, but that can change in a single patch. If these criticisms are accurate, however, there's really no reason for anyone to play the game at all upon reaching 60. Since, ultimately, all character growth post-level-60 is useful only for pvp, and therefore pvp is the only long-term endgame activity, if pvp is really unsatisfying then there is nothing worthwhile to do upon "maxing out." Like most things, however, I suspect the whole "quality of pvp" thing is entirely subjective.

Now, you'll notice I only listed two cons, and one of those was a "maybe." If neither of them seems like that big a deal to you, then you may very well love the game to death. It certainly has its strong points, but that first con I listed was big enough to overwhelm them all for me. Still, I enjoyed my time there very much for several months, so it wasn't a complete loss.

Two things i'd like to add.

First getting to level 60 it's just a quick flash. You see below how long i've played and i'm Level 28.
I've been doing a nice mix of quests and power-leveling, although quests are much more rewarding.

    Second: PvP
Unlike all other mmoprgs i've seen you don't need to be the top level to enjoy pvp!
Once you hit level 20 you can enter BattleGrounds and face players level 20-30, meaning you stand a chance and don't need to be "Uber" to have a good time.
