They're wiping the servers and relaunching today with a fix for the instant lvl 50 bug.

They're estimating the server launch to be at approx. noon PDT.

Seems I made the right decison  2 weeks ago when I started a character on the project1999 server , its free, stable, with great GM's and assistance and most of all it really provides a classical and enjoyable experience.

As I already played on Fippy server, this doesn't come as a surprise, and I am afraid more news like this will come ( mages everywhere, people playing on their little island of boxing, no player interaction, few guids rulling the server destiny).

Why don't they learn with people responsible for Project1999? They did a great job and there are a lot of players craving for a REAL classic server.

Yeah well p99 also has it's issues, so depending on how you rank those, either can be the right choice.

P99 is also controlled by a few guilds and they sit very very hard on everything, atleast on progression things will free up as the expansions come.. Expansions? Yes progression has em, p99 is stuck in time more or less, they say they will not open luclin, Kunark has been in play for years. Pathing ? p99 can't fix this important part, mobs walking and aggroing through walls yay. Oooold client with undoubtly oldschool limitations vs a much better one. Complete reset and new economy on progression servers, which is why most people are playing it. And much more.

A few things I do miss very much on progression that p99 has, the original classic zones (all the revamped zones are horrible), corpse runs.

Anyways.. it is a matter of taste, I play both p99 and progression.. my scale swing towards progression as that is where I have most fun despite its obvious flaws. The reset and progression part plays the most important role in this decision, if p99 did time locked progression and moved beyond Velious (including features and changes as they come) I think that would be my choice.

We tried to warn you p99 is the only way to go. Don't complain now that you didn't listen.
  • KumaponKumapon Member EpicPosts: 1,605

Well it looks like DB fixed the lvl 50 issue, and was finally able to launch the server around 6 pm pst. But now there are way too many players trying to log onto the server and it keeps crashing, or booting players out. No word if DB is going to make a second server.

So wait, they wanted people to have a classic EQ experience, but then put in defiant gear?

Are you telling us there are no exploits on a private amateur server? I've played on plenty of them, and have never seen one that didn't have a ton of these issues. The difference is no one brings such issues to places like this where there is nothing to be gained by proving some point against a private server....now against DB on the other hand... nice try though...

That AAA game companies don't have a clue what they are doing for one. How is it a few part time developers can accomplish more with better results than a multi-million game company?

odd, i don't recall reading that warning.

  • baphametbaphamet Member RarePosts: 3,311

ya all i read is that p99 is much closer to a classic experience, which it is. don't act like you people "warned us" about anything that is going on right now lol

How many years did it take P99 to get this far? Have they been problem and performance free along the way? Who are you people trying to kid?
I didn't say it took them a less time, I said they did more with better results. For starters, no boxing was a nice touch, something a lot of game companies could learn from, but you know why they don't? Because of money. They make more money from multiple accounts, so why would they care if it screws up the game. I'm pretty sure P99 devs have less to worry about when banning people as well, for the very same reason. Just take a look at WoW. Banning 100,000 players for cheating... not permanently... but for 6 months. So don't sit there trying to make it seem like the MMO industry hasn't gone down the shitter cause gaming companies only care about money. P99 is a private server, non profit and does more for it's community then 99% of your AAA game companies.

okay, i still am waiting for you to show me one post about what you warned us about? other than the fact you like p99 better and its closer to a classic style server with no boxing.

we all knew that already, that's not the issue going on right now.

I'm pretty sure quite a few people gave their opinions on how poorly previous progression servers were handled. Also mentioning that despite the server being voted into a slower progression unlock, it would still have issues. No ones perfect and P99 isn't an exception to that fact, but despite all that, P99 is definitely the better choice.

is that the warnings you are talking about? i'm sorry i just don't see anything about launch anywhere. maybe someone somewhere mentioned it but its just obvious people are using this as a means to hype p99, like you are doing right now.

most of us already knew the difference between p99 and the live progression servers, they shouldn't even be compared to be honest.

if you think p99's more classic style is better, right on! its a matter of opinion. right now i would say p99 is far and away better since you can actually log in lol

Yea after reading all this and all the posts on the everquest daybreak forum im glad i didnt jump in from the beginning of this server. I told myself id wait and see how it turned out before resubscribing. Honestly its been a couple years since i went back just to see whats going on like i always do sometimes but progression server or not the experience will  not ever be the same.

Though maybe thats just me. If i can ever get my friend to go back to his house im going to have to transfer the everquest titanium version over to my computer so i can log on P99 and see how thats been going. How busy is it with everything that been going on are we talking 1000+ players on P99???

About a week ago I saw the server with 1700+ people on, Gfay had around 70 people, Crushbone 30+, I tried P99 2 weeks ago and I am glad I did. The experience speed is VERY slow, like back in 1999 , as well as most of other things, except the book in front of you while meding  which fortunatly they removed, LOL

Regardless of the issues by DBG, the fact there are people bitching about the server going up an hour early giving some people an 'unfair advantage'.  Or that level 3s have a significant advantage over level 1s.

Its not supposed to be a race, chill the fuck out.  You are locked in an era with not a whole lot to do at level cap anyway for a VERY long time.  Just relax and enjoy the adventure.

Yeah i never understood why people jsut rush to end game and basically ignore al lthe content in between.. I like to take my time in mmos and enjoy the process of leveling my character.. but i guess people like doing different things.

I want a project 2003 or whenever Omens of War was.

By then the classes were fully formed and the group game was at its peak.

There was endgame for all matter of guilds, instanced missions were still LDoN (which was leaps and bounds the best of all the instanced missions since they promoted group mechanics and had a touch of randomness)

I would love to play on a server locked there, but with exp on par with early EQ and slow AAs, maybe some rebalancing to make VT and PoTime a little more relevant still (although my guild was still raiding PoTime in OoW, we were semi casual and there was still some gear progression there for our skill level)

I just get bored too easily with the original trilogy at max level because AAs spoiled me.  I like always having non gear based progression available to me.

     I agree.

I wouldn't kill DB for a few bugs and required wipes initially.  I'm not sure why they didn't fix the bugs with the initial progression servers but this is not the end of the world.  I'm just happy they are trying to bring back something that wasn't a linear quest hub and felt like a large dangerous virtual world...with consequences and risk vs reward.  All things recent developers could really take to heart.

i miss the EQMAC server that was frozen in pop era. although i wouldn't mind playing one that was frozen in LDON or OOW either, as long as it didn't progress at all after OOW and was just as difficult as it was back then.
