Subscription Fee

Square-Enix are a big company and Final Fantasy is a big name in the gaming world. Those are 2 obvious things. However, why do they insist on making people pay every month? Guild Wars is every bit as good as FFXI. Better in my opinion, but NCSoft do not charge any monthly fees. I'm pretty sure that Square-Enix has a load more money than them. What does everyone else think about it?

Currently playing: World of Warcraft. Love the Recruit a Friend program!

Waiting for WAR.

Why do people even complain about subscription fees. They have been apart of MMO's from the start. Also sorry to say GW is bad example. It's not an MMO. It is a CORPG. Just like Phantasy Online for DC/PC/Xbox/GC. Sure S-E could make FFXI free. They'd be broke and shutting down the servers a month later though. You have no idea how much the bandwidth cost to run that amount of servers. You have no idea how much it cost to keep the servers maintained and running. You have no idea how much it cost to pay the creators to keep working on it. So that they can add new content and fix bugs.

Oh wait maybe you do know how much it cost. It cost 14.95 a month per account.

Like asking why do Airlines charge for flights. When you can walk for free. ::::38::

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

As yourself this- how much do I spend on entertainment each month, either movies, buying games, renting games, cable tv, putt-putt golf, whatever-  does it equal $14.95?  I'm guessing much more.

Then ask yourself this- how many hours do you plan on playing a month?  If you play 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, that's 60 hours a month, and to be honest, that's a low amount.

So, if you play that much, you're paying $0.25/hour of playtime.  Yup, a quarter.
