TL:DR 5/5

Hi, I am Blip, I have been playing Wildstar since launch for the most part with a small break when my guild stopped playing. I came back a couple of months ago and since then I have only seen people giving negative thoughts on the game so I thought I would give my review of how good I think Wildstar is.

I am currently raiding in Wildstar in its second raid, Datascape. After my guild (Immortalis Noctis) stopped playing Wildstar I took a break and went to WoW when the expansion released with a few of them. I played for a week and cleared I think the entire raid, far too easy. Came back to Wildstar when 20m Datascape came out.

Levelling

This is the part of the game I didn't like that much, though it isn't too bad. Took me about 3 days to get my first character to 50 and a bit over a week for my second as I was not focusing on him that much. If you have a friend to level with it will go much faster and will be much more fun.

PvP

I am not a PvPer so cannot give a first hand review of this but from what I hear, PvP, while not perfect, is improving. With the latest drop there is no shortage of people queuing for PvP and warplots go on every weekend from what I have seen so far.

PvE - Pre Raid

Veteran shiphands were added not long ago and they are fun, easy, short snippets of content you can do with a group or just solo if you want. The gear you can get from the shiphand itself or the shiphand vendor is better than what you will most likely have after reaching level cap so its a nice place to start for a casual player.

Adventures would be the next step for progression and they are quite fun though underplayed these days as dungeons are just far more worth it. As a whole, adventures can be skipped if you can get a decent group together for dungeons, though, unless you can get a Pristine Genesis key to get attuned to the raid then you will need to complete these at least once.

Dungeons. This is where Wildstar, for me begins. Everything else was decent, but when I started dungeons I instantly thought this is the best MMO I have played. They are a great challenge and still fun to play even when completely outgeared. In drop 3 (I think) the itemization was updated and there are now vendors which sell gear for currency gained in dungeons (same for shiphands and adventures) that help new players gear up much faster and improved dungeon gear overall. At the start, before gearing from adventures, me and my friends tried a dungeon called Sanctuary of the Swordmaiden, which is the longest of the dungeons. We spent 7 hours in it and it was SO MUCH FUN! Didn't even complete it, worth every minute.

Raids. Best raids I have played. The fights are so much fun, so complex and so rewarding when you finally kill the boss. The first raid is Genetic Archives, which is a fun raid and quite hard though these days it is completed usually in a few hours by experienced groups. Don't let this fool you though, new groups will be wiping here for a while. Unlike wow where you can clear the entire raid the first time you enter, this will not happen here.

Datascape is the second raid and begins with what I think is the best boss in any MMO, at least that I have encountered, ever. System Daemons was the guild destroyer. So many guilds folded because they could not kill this boss. It is so well designed I have to give massive props the TimeTravel who I believe is the maniac behind most boss designs. Now that this raid is 20m, it is not easier mechanics wise but due to requiring less people it is much more accessable as you don't need to get 40 good players, just 20.

Population

Currently, is an issue. There are more people coming to the game but it still needs more. The fact there are a lot of people spreading so much unwarented negativity towards the game means some new players won't even give it a chance. I hope this review will persuade even a few people to try the game.

Due to a lower population the only servers currently worth playing on are the PvE servers in each region(Jabbit for EU). The PvP servers are basically dead.

Other notes

There is a 10 day free trial for new and returning players. If you are returning, you will basically get 10 days full access to the game. New players I believe get slightly restricted in what they can do. Max level 20, no joining a guild I think, maybe more.

Wildstar has a way of playing for free which is called CREDD. This is basically something you can buy off other players through its own auction house in game. So if you want, and have the time to farm the in-game currency, you can play this game as effectively B2P right now. Buy the game, which gives you 30 days free, and in that time, get to 50, and farm some platinum. The fastest way of doing this is shiphands. Just do the fastest one for you as long as you can get Gold medal every time.

For new players, I would advise joining a guild with people who are also starting out or still progressing through Genetic Archives because you will not get the full experience of raiding joining a guild that has it on clear. If you can join a group that hasn't even started raiding yet, even better, because dungeons are awesome!

TL:DR

Wildstar is an absolutely fantastic game and more people need to give it a try. PvP is improving and is in a decent state currently from what I hear from others. PvE from dungeons to raids is second to none and a massive challenge.

If you are a raider, this is a game you have to give a try. Think you are a pro at MMOs? Come to Wildstar and prove it.

Don't listen to all the negativity, some of it is true but these days exaggerated or has been fixed already. People are just holding to the past negative views they have of the game, try it yourself and see if you like it yourself.

This is my first review of a game so don't hate me too much for it prob being a crappy review, just want to get something positive posted for a great game!

Thanks for anyone who read the full thing. :)

Quite frankley, I think the review is spot on. Of course, WildStar is not everyone´s cup of tea, but the negativity around the game is just unfair un buyist.

It did have quite a lot of problems at launch, especially the optimization issue, but I do intend to give it a second shot soon.

Congratz on the review, well done :)

They made a great game. Problem is they created a huge open world full of interesting areas, then made a ton of instanced content. The open world is empty. Everyone is in a dungeon or raid, battleground, arena, house, warplot, shiphands, adventures etc. I wish they would bring in more content in the open world. Get people moving around, running into each other. Get towns bustling again.

With the latest drop this has actually completely flipped. Now with the contracts system the overworld cant handle the amount of people doing events such as scorchwing. While its awesome to see so many people, it is something Carbine will need to fix as during the event I get less than 5 FPS most of the time. I can live with it though since theres just so many people! :D

Is there anyone on this bored who hasn't tried WS? There was a free beta, 7 day free trials at launch, and now 10 day free trials for anyone who asks.

In my opinion WS and dev team earned all of the bad press and empty servers they received. My hope is that WS stands as a warning to all other developers who follow with the idea of "We'll make it like WoW".

How in the world did you get a character from level 1 to level 50 legitimately in 3 days?!

Now, which one of you will adorn me today?

I don't know either, because I'm not a power gamer. But I imagine there was a lot of Red Bull involved.

The question is how many hours in those three days.

How did you level so fast OP? How many hours per day did you play?

I enjoyed WildStar and will come back for another go after f2p. I think it's a great game that just didn't have enough other players, at least a couple of months ago when I was playing.

In my case, I tried to actually absorb some of the lore, and enjoy the world and leveling process. The problem I had was that I had so much fun with each class, I couldn't pick one. And then I also changed factions because of population issues on the Dominion side. So I have 6 level characters from level 5-20. If I had focused I think I would have certainly leveled one of them to 50 in a week.

If wildstar keep trying it get the same type community as the same people last year that wanted the game not to change then jumped the ship back to wow, are pushing for the game when it's go's f2p still be hardcore only game. Most of them are big names and if wildstar only have ear for them, then going drop the dark hole just again. But let see if they do change.

Glad OP likes it but Wildstar never did it for me, even at launch.

Seeing as it's going F2P soon, people can try for themselves.

Don't know about people here but there are definitely a lot of people who have not tried the game yet at least according to the reddit threads. I have seen quite a few people saying they will give the game a go when it goes f2p.

While you are entitled to your opinion, I have to disagree. The game had a lot of issues in the beginning but I, like many others were able to look past them and see the game and it is a great game. Don't define a game by issues that at this stage are fixed.

I won't even go into why the whole statement about making it like WoW is ridiculous, would just start a flame war and I don;t like those. :P

The fastest way is to just do the quests. I took time off work(NEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRD) and just leveled, ate and slept. Skip all lore/cutscenes too. I was also a day behind a few people in my guild.

At least you tried it. :)

Would you try it again once it goes f2p? Wouldn't have to pay then.

Just incase, but you prob already know this, try and reach max level and do some dungeon/raid content, that's where the real game begins, for me at least. (Guessing you know this already, but just incase.)
