    I have played both,

Guild Wars I played 13 days then I had a maxed out charter with all elite skills.  and now I try to sell the game so I dont have to see it anymore.

EQ2 I played for 4 mounths, its a great game, just not for me.

WoW great game,  just not for me

SoR 1 mounth and counting,  not sure this is for me ethier.

to choose between GW/EQ2 is asking yourself,  do I want to max out a charter in 14 days or 2 years.

after you *completed GW* there isn't much to do expect pvp,  and pvp with pick up groups is so boring you want to cry !

Well GW doesn't offer a mmorpg xp :P

EQ2 has a rude community, all moody and noone talks

What's SOR like? i brought it but never tried it

Yeah well i used to play the old text based MUDs - specifically Arctic MUD. That was great (based on Dragonlance) and i'm looking for something like this, but with graphics. So if there is anything else that fits the bill let me know. EQ2 seems close.

depends on the amount of time you spend gaming. EQ2 has a LOT fo content on offer for your money, with more comming out all the time. Guild Wars is a bit more casual friendly, and has good tactical PVP if you find a good guild that understands team work.

it really does depend on your style of play and your gaming preferances.  if you have the money to spare, give guild wars a try, it only lasted me a week or two and i started to get bored of it, the only thing i really enjoyed was the PVP, and as always idiots ruined it due to their inability to make team palying characters, or to then play as a team when you get get in the arena.

EQ2 does have PVP with the new exansion, when its released, so i guess i'll have to wait and see if it compares, but its much more of a game, and if you want a better game, and dont expect something for nothing, i'd go with EQ2.

you get what you pay for, as always.

Actually EQ2 has PVP now on the test server :P

It's only dueling for now and planned to be released b4 they fully put PVP in with instances etc etc

They are both entirely different games and can't be compared to each other with any degree of accuracy.
  • XanothXanoth Member UncommonPosts: 116

yes but he asked about a game to play :P  not test.

also GW is only dueling (team dueling anyway, which is wahts planned for EQ2)

Sounds like EQ2 is the pick then. Anything else on par with it other than WoW?

the saga of ryzom is quite similar i guess, and also has a free trial. requires a credit card to paly the trial, but they just take $1 out of your bank, then credit it back again, jsut to check the account exists, you cant actualy end up paying for anything without buying the game from them first.

I preffer Guild Wars.  I bought it for the PvP, but I'm also having fun in the PvE game, too.  PvP is fun without all the normal PvP game type of hassles (ganking, kill-stealing, etc.)   The way the game is balanced, you have to learn to play well with others.  Asshats that have nothing better to do than grief will have a hard time getting anywhere even with the option of hiring henchmen.  It's geared towards the more casual player.  It's not designed to be a grindfest/farmfest like other MMORPGs.  It's based on player skill much more than anyone's level or equipment.  The only drawback is if you're the type that plays 50/hours a week, it's possible to be bored with it.  If you're a casual player, this is the one you need to pick up.

I've played EQ2's Trial of the Isle and it's not as "gay" as WoW fanboys say it is.  The only reason I haven't picked it up yet was the lack of PvP at the time I was checking it out.  That and it seemed like more of a time investment to me.  Guild Wars has no monthly fee.  It's already got me hooked on it's concept of PvP and I'm having a blast.

Guild Wars is still an MMO.

I've played both.  EQ2 I got bored of after 2 months, GW after 2 weeks even though I'm not a powergamer.  If you combine the pve of EQ2 and the pvp of GW you might have a decent game.

Currently I'm waiting on the next decent release, whatever that may be!  Might go back to EQ2 when the pvp stuff goes live. image

They are so utterly different that you might as well compare Half Life to Age of Empires.

I'm not a huge EQ2 fan but EQ2 is a lot better then GW's IMHO.  I still play EQ2 but quit GW's after the first week.

    WOW
Someone played on one of the the MUDs I played on and even helped write some of the zones for. :)

Bragnor Badur.... Dwarven Bishop of Reorx

Now that brought back some memories!

    Who were you on Arctic?

    :)

As to your question: EQ2 and WoW are both better than GuildWars if you're looking for an MMO experience. If neither is 'for you' I'd recommend giving SWG a spin... and at $29.95 for the "Total Experience" package it's a lot cheaper than either of them to try it out.

EQII does have a buddy code system where a friend can give you a 14 day trial code though, so that's also a good option.

Personally I play SWG with occasional visits to EQII and PlanetSide.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

It really depends on what kind if a person you are, if you are a true nerd who spends all his time in his parents basement in the dark and plays RPGs all day then EQ2 is the one for you, if you have a life outhside of games and like to do other things then Guild Wars is the choice.

Thats what it comes down to. image

I'm still subscribed to EQ2 and i have Guild Wars. I don't play either anymore because they're both completely retarded instance happy crap games. Seriously if you want a good game try Eve-Online or Saga of Ryzom. No instancing, plenty of freedom, No linear progression and lots of roleplaying in both. What more could you ask for?

I played EQ2 for three weeks after its release, and I didn't consider it to be a bad game, it did have a rocky release, and I generally thought WoW was better.  I'm hearing all the talk about how much better EQ2 has become recently and I've decided to give it another try as soon as I can, which, unfortunately, isn't right now.  *sniff*  image

I played Guildspunk for three days, which was enough time for me to decide that it smokes a choad.  As far as I'm concerned, the only thing GW is good for is keeping the immature wannabeleets away from the games that I like to play.

Wow, you sure know how to insult people, wish I could come up with stuff like that, look, give some reasons why I am wrong then, don't just call me an idiot and leave, then again, what can you expect from a nerd like you.

True nerd... umm I don't even own a pair of plastic elf ear, a wookie costume or even a pocket protector...

Lives at home in parents basement.... hmm left home at 18 for college and never moved back...Parents house does not even have a basement...

has a life outside of MMORPGS.. ummm full time day job, part time woodworking business, wife , daughter, and go to a average of 2 parties a month... nope does not apply either

Does this mean I have to cancel my subscription to EQII?

Oh and I have never played GW so I can't help with your decision.

    I miss DAoC

  • CactusmanXCactusmanX Member Posts: 2,218
Well I say since EQII is the more time consuming of the 2 play EQII as your main game, but just when you start to get tired of EQII go play GW for a week,  alternate like this once or twice a month and that should keep both games fun and fresh for a whileimage

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

Umm......how old are you? When do you get time to play games? What are you thinking coming into this dicussion when you havent even played Guild Wars? Please if you can explain this to me I would be most greatfull.

P.S. I didn't know you chould have kids on EQ2

  • brett7018brett7018 Member UncommonPosts: 181

Well I played beta for EQ II for about a month before release and it was pretty crappy compared to WoW.  So far nothing I have played is close to WoW but DAoC was very good.

Guild wars was deleted from my computer three days after its installation.

Any EQII players out there that played late beta say it has improved graphically please post...but it was pathetic then.  I have played WoW since beta 2 and can honestly say they have it right on almost everything.  Real life has caused me to have to stop playing twice but so far I keep going back :P

I think ianubis has been the closet so far at describing a better game. I just don't see how you compare a casual, skill-based, PvP game to a more-time consuming, questing, PvE game. Besides for the whole online fantasy similarities the gameplay and goals are completely different.

The only way you could probably attempt to decide which one is a "better" game is by how much fun you had playing it. But that's entirely based upon opinion and is completely different for every individual person. To me it just seems someone who can only invest a few hours a week will enjoy Guild Wars over Everquest II.

If I had to choose which game I enjoyed more it would probably be Guild Wars. Sure there are a lot of flaws... But playing an intense 30 minute match in the Tombs Tournament or a Guild vs. Guild match have been some of the most fun I've had with any MMORPG (or CORPG, whatever you want to call it). I just enjoy strategizing with your group to set up the right build with 8 skills out of the 300 you can choose from and setting up the right number of points. Then again that’s just my opinion, probably better just to try out them both yourself.
