Originally posted by Reizla Once again G2A buyers are having trouble with keys obtained through that service (remember UbiSoft removing AC Unity keys from accounts earlier this year?). ^This...and OH the surprise!

Same thing actually happens with gold sellers in games like World of Warcraft has for years! In fact there is an inside secret that's happening there as well, it was really huge some years ago at WoW's prime and actually happened to me. Support agents would take account information on accounts that had recently closed sell that to the gold sellers and then that would in turn be used as a farming system it happened with hundreds of accounts but because our press is so messed up only two sites covered it and it's part of the reason why Blizz started the program to restore currency and items to the accounts that were stolen in the first place instead of banning them outright. Looks like other companies need to learn from this.
However, that being said, they need to put their foot down about keys purchased from websites like these because it doesn't matter if the players want their accounts or not if they put out a post about it especially on their main page, some large announcement on the main page, to let people know that they cannot use these codes because they are fraudulent then there would be no excuse. Those players accounts being banned would then be on those player's heads. Really it's not that difficult is it?
i totally agree there should be a heads up on main page and before you enter your code , hell there should a specifec site that announce un trusted sites
It's called looked up the authorizes sellers on the game's page. Anyone NOT listed there is a "not trusted" seller. the only exception to this rule would be Steam or a code sold directly by Amazon themselves - Steam because they won't sell something they don't have an agreement to sell and Amazon due to their record of customer service.
Admittedly ESO no longer has a readily available page for that, but if you ask "Where to buy ESO?" On their support site it links you. Currently just them and Steam for PC/Mac.
Also so asking on the appropriate subreddit can help you find an answer.
i think there have been a miss understanding what i meant is : every mmo for example should list trusted sites to buy from and untrusted ones
1) Any site not explicitly mentioned as a "trusted" or "authorized" (re)seller is an "untrusted" site.
2) G2A is never a trusted site that I've ever seen.
It would be unrealistic for them to try and list every single unauthorised game retailer, listing just the authorised ones is more than sufficient. As for G2A, this is a repeat offender kind of thing, why anyone buys anything from them these days, i have no idea, the risk of losing access to a game you bought through them, is fairly significant these days, and there is no legal recourse for those duped into buying stolen game keys either, and ignorance is after all, not an accepted defense for those who unknowingly buy stolen game keys, the law is really not on their side.
My understanding is the keys are actually fraudulant but come from Russia or some other region were it would be cheaper in US dollars, Euros or pounds....

Some ARE infact bought this way. But this might be valid only for the keys that are closer to retail price. TESO specifically was going for 8$
Based on what I am seeing, accounts aren't being banned so much as being closed down - at least that is what I'm reading on other forums from other sites I visit (with actual copy/pasted emails from support).
That or maybe ZOS changed their tune? It seems like they are simply closing down accounts and giving users a chance to purchase a legit key from a legit retailer before the account is re-activated.

Considering ZOS is not under any obligation to provide such a service, thats actually pretty generous of them
I would like the author of this article and other disgruntled players to see me in game; I will give you cheese from my provisions bag to go with your whine.
I feel bad for those that got scammed and I think G2A should be held responsible. I'm not sure what EU laws are like, but in the US I'm pretty sure helping to distribute stolen or fraudulent goods makes that business accountable. I'm not a lawyer though so who knows what legal loopholes they can squeeze through.
Hopefully the bad publicity will steer players away from G2A. Hopefully game sites and their contributors will stop promoting this site as well.
Steam sells fraudulent early access scams all day. There are now a dozen games on Steam that just simply stopped development and are dead.
Do you think Steam should be held responsible for distributing fraudulent games and participating in a scam?

I have bought many games with G2A and never had any issues or recalls. They also offer full refund if your key gets revoked or is not working in the first place. I don't see any wrongdoing on G2A's part and the site is as legitimate as any other key distributor like Green Man Gaming. In fact, GMG had keys revoked before also and no one was crawling up their backside for the screwup.

AFAIK Steam was the only one that had that loophole.
