Reorganizing Data: reorganize this

SmashixSmashix Member UncommonPosts: 91

SWTOR is another game I'm trying and I just launched it and it's taking forever to start and showing "reorganizing data". The solution is apparently another full download that doesn't use bitraider.

This sounds a lot like the solution of downloading LOTRO again (another game I wanted to try and wouldn't launch) using an install without Happy Cloud.

For both of these games: why on earth is the default download for new users from the game site the version that sucks? Now SWTOR will be yet another game I uninstall and say "Forget it". I won't feel bad because in both cases, the solution is well known, yet the companies running these games continue to force the sucky broken version of their games on new users.

I'd rather not waste my time on companies and games that treat their customers or potential customers like this.

Why not simply let them download overnight? You could easily install both games that way.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

I'm too busy ragequitting these games (before I even started playing) and posting angry forum messages right now! ;-)

Yes of course I can, and maybe I will, but right now I'm too pissed off. I tried downloading and running 3 games in the past couple of days and none of them will run! I guess it's just one of those weeks...

But my OP is still appropriate. If there are known issues (for years) with these installers, why are they the default installers?

    life is hard amirite?

out of the 5 or 6 times i've reinstalled swtor after formats of my PC over the years, i've never had this issue... sorry you're experiencing it.

Most likely because only a small percentage of the total playerbase is affected by these issues, so they consider it worth the trade-off for whatever technical advantages those installers give them. (No idea what they would be though, since I'm not a programmer)

Of course it still sucks when you're part of that percentage. =/

I've had a stressful couple of weeks at work lately and I have been bored with the games I have been playing. All I wanted was to get a new game and kill some monsters.

    Normally that goes like this:

    1. Go to game site
    2. Create an account
    3. Download game
    4. ~Half an hour or so later: I am running around a fantasy world killing monsters! :-)

This week I tried 3 games (YES THREE! -- the 3rd was DDO, also with @^&;$#! Happy Cloud).

I haven't made it to step 4 yet.

Instead I have spent 2 days and absurd hours Googling stupid launcher errors and finding out that the default installer for all 3 of these games have longstanding issues that the companies making the games haven't bothered to address.

So that's why I'm a little frustrated right now!

Anyway, that's been my week. ;-)

If this is the third game you've tried to download and install to no avail. Then I think you need to re-assess your situation. As that's statistically on par with winning the powerball, assuming each attempt was due to a fault on each individual games developer/publishers software or download server.

You should check with your ISP, to make sure you haven't hit an invisible data limit. As companies will lower your bandwidth priority if you've exceeded a certain amount based on your internet package. If this is the case, your inability to install completely and/or patch may be due to data corruption happening during the download due to slow or spotty connection during download.

Or, you may have virus/malware on the computer that's blocking new software installs. This is common in Trojan's as a countermeasure to you installing anti-virus or anti-spyware programs to remove them.

Honestly, the chances of three, independent companies providing downloads. And each one of them has a problem preventing you from installing/patching their software. Is some really long and complicated theoretical math that no one here is qualified to attempt soo....

It's likely on your end mate.

It was 3, not 5 or 6, and 2 use the same installer. After very little research, I found that these are well known issues with those installers.

I mean, it's not like the problem couldn't be on my end, but I install and uninstall software just about daily (part of my job) and I have a ton of games running successfully on my PC. Actually, just last week I installed and played Heroes of the Storm (and uninstalled it again -- it just isn't my kind of game).

This issue still persists.  When i used to play, it would always "reorganize data" whenever i launched the game.  It's a known issue and you can find it on their forums.  They even claimed to fix it, but it never did.  It wasn't my PC either, because it happened separately on my old PC and my newer one.  I stopped playing because of another bug though, where my resolution is stretched and there's no solution.  The former issue is so annoying though, it's a legit reason to quit.

Had a problem ages ago, where i couldn't seem to install anything, turned out in the end that one of my ram sticks had faulted, and needed to be replaced, it created just a small amount of data corruption in everything i downloaded.

But your probably right, if there is a problem with all of these games, then, chances are there is something wrong with the guys PC, it might not even be a hardware issue either, it could just simply be a 'permissions' issue, this is especially true if the guy has windows 8, it would be worth him diving into the program files and making sure the exe files for the games, including the bitraider bit, have admin rights. or at least are able to make the changes to the programs they relate to. image

Guys please read my OP before jumping to conclusions. It wasn't 5 or 6 games, it was 3. 2 of the 3 games use the same installer/launcher and SWTOR did install and run, I just got sick of waiting for "reorganizing data" every time I want to launch the game (yes, EVERY TIME for HOURS).

Just to be really sure, I downloaded and installed Rift overnight and it runs fine.

You guys are really missing the point of my OP rant, which is that these gaming companies haven't fixed longstanding issues with their launchers, better launchers are available for these games, and yet they direct new users toward the launchers with the issues.

As the only time you get the whole reorganising data thing, is if it needs to patch the game, either because there has been an update, or for whatever reason, it had to repair the game before it could be launched. To do that so frequently would indicate that you do indeed have some kind of issue with your PC, seriously, you should check it out.

There is a programme from mersenne, called prime 95, its totally free, and it has a 'torture test' that will test the integrity, of not just your RAM, but also your CPU and also whether your PC has a heat issue, for troubleshooting issues with a PC i consider it to be invaluable. If i was having your issues, i would seriously give it a try. image

Thanks, I'll check it out, better safe than sorry. It's worth running a free utility, since my PC is getting long in the tooth. The last thing I need is my main machine crapping out on me.

hey, dont feel too bad. Give the overnight a try. I know how you feel, i downloaded RIFT through steam the other day and when i hit launch it asked to download the game again through Glyph. That was the fastest uninstall i've ever done.

Ugh, yeah I hate that every company has its own platform now that you have to use to launch, download, etc. I just want to click once and play my game already!

I get that with TOR but certainly not every time I launch the game, only when there are updates, even then not every-time there's an update (it doesn't happen with small hotfixes, etc.). it usually doesn't take but a few minutes in my case. I don't think it's a Ram or CPU issue on your end, maybe just a slow working HD.
