Everquest 2 should be the number 1 game

tr1podtr1pod Member Posts: 12

I have played all the big name MMORPG's on the market and EQ2 in my opinion is the best. SOE have made an incredible amount of changes since launch and it really is a nice game now. It at least should be in the top 3.

I guess WoW and Guild Wars just has more players.

Or, could be the fact that for a month or so after launch, SOE was still screwing up the game. Servers were down a lot, and the content was well, repetative. That's why it's not in the top. I will admit, EQ2's turned around and started looking good, and WoW on the other hand, keeps going downhill. Servers are still overfull, they're adding in buggy content, and hosing 1 class at a time with each new patch.

EQ2 was dog crap out of the gate. Myself (I'm sure other EQ1 hardcore players), jumped in on release...and you know that saying about first impressions....well there you have it.

    Is there PVP?

In order for EQ2 to be in the top 5 they need to free the players. The game mechanics are the worst in any game. The lockout combat systems just plain sucks. Having both group and solo mobs is retarded. It's instanced to the point of stupidity. Everything in the game breaks the immersion factor. As a player you're totally at the mercy of the game mechanics. Theres no pvp and the progression is linear as usual. I can keep going on the list but those are already some pretty serious flaws. No they haven't changed them and no they don't plan on changing them. EQ2 was a total disappointment.

While I don't think EQ2 should be the #1 game (although I wish it deserved to be, since I happen to be paying for it), I respectfully disagree with Copeland.

I don't get what he means by "free" players. There are tons of paths of progression through the game.

I like the mechanics. I like that the mob labelling system, and I think it gives a great indication as to what to expect when you engage a mob. I don't mind the instancing, and I don't think it's overdone. Several times in fact it's been very helpful when zones were packed to the gills and I was able to zone into a fresh instance where not everything was taken so I could complete my quests and move forward instead of just waiting for a vacancy to open or having to re-prioritize my quests and move somewhere else.

I don't get how progression is linear. As usual is probably right though. It's about the same as any other MMO. Don't see how that can be a criticism when talking about it in regards to a relative rating scale with other MMOs, who also have the same feature.

I have managed to master the game mechanics fairly well so far. I guess it takes awhile and some people aren't willing to figure it all out. It's certainly not handed to you on a platter like in some other games. You have to try out stuff to see what works best for specific situations. At least in my experience I have found that to be true. It may be different for other classes.

I find no PvP to be a benefit. I am not happy that they plan to add it. Some of those things are legitimate opinions. To say EQ2 isn't adding PvP is incorrect though. Not sure where Cope gets his info from (beta or early release maybe), but the implication that PvP is not coming to EQ2 is inaccurate.

I would say of the MMOs I've played it's #3 or 4. I don't care about PvP though. I can see how that's a deal breaker for some people. I personally have yet to find it "fun" in any game that's implemented it. And I was really excited for it in SWG. Unfortunately you can't have 2000hp PCs with guns that hit for 5000. That doesn't translate into fun PvP.

While SOE have the best customer service now, amazing servers and a great launchpad with fast download times! They also have fast development and fix the game pretty fast!

Only problem is in making EQ2 they seemed to left out a soul and the fun factor!

The game is great, but theres just nothing in it for fun :

Personally i think EQ deserves the no.1 slot

I've yet to pick up EQ2, and I'm thinking about picking it up now. I originally heard it had problems at launch and thats why I didn't pick it up right away.

I've been playing WoW since launch, and I personally enjoy the game a lot and believe it should be in the top 3 mmorpg's, however after playing Guild wars I am still in disbelief at it's #1 ranking on this site...

#1 reason i'm in disbelief: IT'S NOT AN MMORPG!!!

I believe that EQ2 should beat Guild Wars on this site, and I haven't even played EQ2.. GOD priston tale is better than Guild wars... INFACT, i find myself hoping on and playing Gunbound before I think of playing guild wars it sux that bad.

EQ2 is indeed an extremely nice game, what it does, it does nicely.

However,  rather bang my head in a wall all night then play EQ2.  EQ2 may have been designed by NA, but it is exactly developped on a Japanese ''company/guild is all and individuals are nothing'' mentality.

It is extremely well done and nice, for the peoples who enjoy that type of game.  Like I say, I would have to try hard to find something more unpleasant to my tastes.

I agree 100% Anofalye. It's definitley not for everyone, but those that like that type of game will really enjoy Eq2. As for Copeland, I'm not sure what you mean by any of your statements. I've found the game to be anything but linear. And I feel quite "free" as well. I think labeling mobs group or solo is a pretty good idea. They don't plan on changing the fact that theres no pvp? I guess I've been hearing lies for the last month. If you're going to bash a game, at least know what you're talkking about.

I beta'ed ( 3 months) then played EQII at launch for a month. Switched to WoW, which lasted me less than a month, then was MMORPG'less until early May. I decided to give EQII another try and man was I surprised. So far I have made it from 0 to level 25 in about a month, leveling a tradeskill (lvl 22 woodworker) pretty much right along with my adv skills.

I am not a member of any guild and solo 80% to 90% of the time, joining pickup groups the other 10% to 20 %. The game is not perfect by any means. I still get the occasional invisible mob attacking me. That is the worst bug I have encountered so far and it's a pretty easy one to counter. Just "target the nearest mob" then wail away on it.

The tradeskills are useful if a bit overly complex, however they are a welcome relief from monster bashing. the community is great and very mature and helpful.

Oh my number one game of all time would be early to mid UO, number two would be DAoC. EQII would be a solid third however.

    I miss DAoC

Well to be number 1, EQ2 should not only appeal to hardcore gamers that have 8 hours a day to devote to a game. This is exactly where Guild Wars and WoW beat it. Now of course many of us don't care about casual gameplay and therefore deem games like EQ2 better than those quickies but looking at the ranking you can see that the majority favours games with a more easy gameplay.

You might have a different opinion on EQ2's ranking but a ranking is based on majority and not on your own single vote.

oh and to beat a dead horse:

Is Guild Wars an MMORPG? Well it's massively multiplayer and it's an RPG.
Is Guild Wars like 99% of the other MMORPGs in most respects? No it differs like no other MMO

So you think it's a bad game? Congrats to your very own opinion. The ranking shows only what the majority of voters think, not what you think they should think. Still with me? :))

They should give former players a free week or so to try it out (past the Isle of Refuge). That way those who were turned off by it in the beginning won't be so gunshy to try it out again.

I guess I'll chime in because I am an EQ2 player (been there since beta and release) and it's the only game I'm currently playing. The game does have some great features and since it seems that SOE is putting the most effort into this title it has seen some much needed improvments over the past 6 months.

That being said I don't feel that EQ2 even remotely deserves to be the number 1 game.  There are a few things I feel must be done for it to get to that point.

    1) Combat must be opened. Interlocking combat is good to a degree but I feel it just doesn't work in this game, not being able to help a fellow adventurer who may be in dire need (without exp penalty) or throw in a well timed heal is counter productive to building a community.

    2) Classes must be fixed before anything else. Apparently theres some big combat revamp in the works, which has players more paranoid then anything else right now in fear of a repeat a la SWG. Hopefully this will finally get to the multiple classes that are downright busted to unplayability. It's scary to think that SOE/EQ2 has managed to leave so much of the game broken yet managed to sell us 2 Adventure Packs and are almost ready to sell us an expansion.

    3) The game is extremely linear IMHO. Begin game, kill to get to freeport (or qeynos), kill some more to get to common lands, kill some more to get to nek forest... rinse and repeat for every lvl and that's pretty much it. Everyone pretty much gets to the same areas around the same lvl and blah blah, you get the point. I realize this fairly standard in MMO's, it just seems thicker and more pronouced in EQ2.

    4) PVP, as much as I don't enjoy PVP, it's just not my thing, many upon many players do enjoy it and should have the option to do so. Of course this is comming and I'm happy that those people who sorely enjoy this type of game play will get to have their wish, I just hope SOE/EQ2 does a decent job at it for them.

    5) And finally (sorry this dragging on) A POINT !!! Seriously, other then RP,  which I do alot of on the AB server with some marvelous players, what is the point to this game, what's the story, where is it developing, where is all the good stuff that makes a good story... well, good ! They have this fantistic base to work on and yet the story is in a virtual stand still of non-happenings. Involv the players for the love of god, get them into the story, throw in some controlable villages, dungeons, whatever, have the main cities change depending on the economy's or state of control accross the lands. Have player controled shops and tents in the main city's... JUST DO SOMETHING !!!

Well thats it, sorry for dragging on, like I said I do actually like playing EQ2 and I do feel that one day it could become one of the best out there but it needs much work.
