Turbine's just-launched MOBA is closing down shop already, as even a Steam launch doesn't seem to have helped out the DC Comics battler in obtaining an audience.
See the sad news in its entirety here.
From the site:
After much deliberation, we regret to announce the official shutdown of Infinite Crisis. We will end development efforts today and will close the service on August 14, 2015.
Between now and August 14th, the game will remain available to play completely free. If you have any questions, contact Customer Service for assistance athttp://support.infinitecrisis.com.
This was an extremely difficult decision to make. On behalf of the entire Infinite Crisis team we want to thank all of you for your feedback, support and for joining together to create one of the best communities in gaming.
We've reached out for more input, and will report back when we hear from Turbine.
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
With so many MOBAs out that are so entrenched (DotA 2 and LoL, among others) it's no surprise it didn't last to me.
Marvel's game is thriving because it's basically an online version of their very popular ultimate alliance series. DC tried to capitalize on the growing MOBA craze but the market is just too saturated/people are too entrenched in their games.
It isn't different enough from others like it to stand on its own unfortunately. Also, the player base for the big two are DIE HARD (just ask which of the two is better in a forum and watch the poo-storm begin), so again not surprising to me.
apparently they blew a huge portion of their budget on twitch campaigns that did nothing for the game
I recall the game feeling extremely sluggish too, and this was after a supposed fix regarding that issue
game felt cater made to DC fanboys as well. I think DC is cool but do we really need 20 variation heroes of batman, superman, and the joker?
Another "me too" copy of the leader that was destined to fail from the beginning.
If you're not Blizzard(the HotS ad surrounding the text as I write this) you will fail if you dont do something different.
Smite changed the gameplay a bit and is doing quite well.
Dont copy LoL/Dota 2 and think that will be enough for success.
I have to say that I tried this game out a couple months back and I was impressed with it. It was polished, good looking maps and characters. I'm surprised to hear this but with the other big hitters in the Moba scene and now adding a Blizzard product to it to boot, I suppose I can understand.
I like the idea of making a Moba like Smite, one with a first person view instead of a top down view cause I know I hate the top down view to be sure. However I don't think that would have necessarily saved this title. I think not focusing on all the "alternate universe" versions of their superheroes would have been a better move. I mean gaslight-batman is cool in theory till you look at him with his sonic pistols and what not.
People want to play their favorite superheroes and be introduced to new ones. I think if they stuck with their normal superheroes and worked on just adding all the different heroes they have, that would have been a better move than the "alternate universe" ones. I would much rather play Batman than gaslight batman personally. If they made them into skins, that could work but with having so many heroes in the DC IP, it seems like a big mistake not taking advantage of that and instead changing all the heroes to weird alternate reality heroes that weren't necessarily something that fans already enjoyed.
No matter what, it's a sad day...

Oh Turbine. Maybe now, that you're near the end, you'll realize that copying other people's ideas only works for Blizzard.
Turbine: Themeparks are hot now. Let's scrap Middle Earth Online and make LoTRO. It's like WoW with Legolas!
Turbine: MOBAs are hot now. Let's make one exactly like LoL, but with Super Heroes!
Stop it.

as much as i wish there would be a Asherons Call 3, I also fear what they would do to it....
You have to account for the leechers and content locusts in making your games all the time. Never forget them or they will be a growing problem.
This game gave way too much to the free player I thought. I knew they wouldn't be able to monetize much of anything and that the free loaders would ruin this IP.
I was very hopeful at the start though. VERY hopeful.
They didnt do well becuase they didnt market well. Assuming the game plays just as good as a well made MOBA - all varaiables contstant in that regard, then its leaves to other issues such as marketing and making the game into an e-sport.
I know other mobas existed, but I never heard of this, and even now, I am not bothered to check it out.
Heroes of the storm at least looks pretty and is made by blizzard, so that has me interested to at least check out.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
Really sad. Even though im not a moba fan i really enjoyed playing Mecha Wonder Women in this game. I hope Turbine use the DC IP for a different genre. Looking forward to see Mecha WW in a different game.
They could make another action adventure game about the DC universe instead of just Batman. Kinda tired of Arkham already. Time to expand that genre to the whole DC universe.
EDIT: With this game dead i dont need to bother with mobas anymore outside of the occasional HotS match against bots.
I can't wait for DOTA 2 to finally fall. That game gives carpal tunnel to even the most ADD of kids. Check "click counter" videos of DOTA 2 vs LoL. There's about half the amount of clicks in a LoL game vs. a DOTA 2 of equal time. That's a whole lot less micromanaging and damaging of your wrists and joints.
Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!
I've played it off and on since it opened. It was good, just not good enough and definitely not different enough to warrant a spot in the moba world.
Smite - 3rd person
Dota2 - Hardcore of the hardcore
LoL - Dota that's been simplified enough to be accessible while still retaining some key aspects. Also has interesting heroes and is an established player in the field
HotS - Established lore characters from various genres in one game, highly polished (it's Blizzard), and they scrubbed away all the knowledge barriers of DotA and made a moba focused on quick action. Blizzard still understands that fun is fun and most people play games . . . to have fun.
Marvel Heroes isn't a MOBA it's an ARPG and those are generally consumed easily and I'm constantly surprised that the genre doesn't have more entrants.
If DC wants a MOBA they need to really think about what people see in super-hero comics. I'll tell you what it isn't - it's not people shooting a 10 dmg orb of pew pew at some other hero shooting a 10 dmg orb of pew pew back at them. Super-heroes fight crime (or cause crime in the case of villains), they need a call to action. Super-hero moba would have pop-up events where the "good team" (radiant) would try to save whatever needs saving, and the "bad guys" (dire) would attempt to thwart them. Fighting across a city trying to either increase crime or eliminate crime. Not shooting at towers during a laning phase. The map would have to be much bigger with lots of stuff happening and it should be a mix of RTS and MOBA. No one wants to play Green Arrow shooting a plinky arrow at a Goggle wearing Batman to zone him out from the creep wave.
Since Warner Bros purchase, there has been nothing good coming out of Turbine. You have to believe that someone at Warner Bros has to share the blame for this mess.
