I recall waiting for like over 2 and half hours for Giant Sep in Coerthas . Also that croc took over two hours. Worse was I had stepped out and it spawned while I was away for like 5 minutes I think. Oh fun times but everyone waiting will exchange war stories and you can actually make some friends while chatting and waiting. Some of us were on the same books so we started alerting each other on a spawn.
All fates for books are outside the cycle of the regular fates, some have some conditions though so the best thing you can do is look it up at www.xivdb.com/ and read the comments. But generally it's just going to where they are and wait until they pop. Good luck!
