Honestly, I am not sure what to think. I mean, the trailer was epic, but then, every game can cook up a cool trailer.
There are a few odd points about it. First, where did this New Empire come from? How realistic is it, that all of a sudden an Empire formed, within 3 years, so powerful to wipe our Sith Empire and Republic? Where did they build their fleet? Their troops? Or do we have to assume they came from another Galaxy, like the Yuzhang Vong?
Second, ok they introduce two twins - nice idea - and then kill one of them off already in the trailer? What strange story-telling is that? Oh, look new character, oh look now he is dead already. Err... what? Did those guys who fabricated the story watch a few too many Game of Thrones episodes??
Ok I get it, the 2 factions and many class stories were more a hindrance. But now, if someone starts anew, how can it be plausible from level 1-60 the Galaxy is still frozen in the past, before that New Empire came, and your character is oblivious to it all? I would have understood a total makeover, like Cataclysm or so.
And finally, this New Empire seems to be pretty Dark Side, and WHY again do we need a new Evil Empire when we already HAVE one?
Meesa not understanden.

Agreed Elikal. Too much seemed contrived and out of place, but there is less time and creativity spent now on making a MMO's backstory make sense than they spent in the past, so that kind of does not surprise me.
Also your Dark side comment.... this more than anything the more I think about it... it seems MMOs in general are becoming darker and darker still, so finding a MMO where you can be a "Lightsider" is getting more difficult. Is it because the Devs seem intent on showing that everyone is evil whether they intend to be evil or not? Great for storywriting, but if everyone is that dark the universe itself will fall and never get up. The Tug of War between the opposing viewpoints can't be all onesided and saying a battle of evil against another kind of evil, is well, basically one sided.
If I can't at least take a "virtual" stand for good and right and justice in a MMO with my characters, even if they are faulty and fail alot, then I have no desire to play them. I'm not asking for the good guy to always win, but I am asking for the good guy to get to the battlefield and at least have a some hope of contending.... to paint a picture in a MMO that all characters are fallen and have no hope... well then to even play is a waste of time IMO.
I bet the Darksiders are loving all this though. To them I say "Enjoy".

Well, the Galaxy's a pretty huge place. Revan and Malak originally traveled into "unknown space" where he found the Sith Empire and got corrupted by the Emperor, so it's not exactly unprecedented.
I agree about the twins though, kind of a shame to kill one off before we even met them. I imagine it was meant to give us more insight about Valkorion and Arcann (the surviving twin).
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
“As a subscriber, when you get Fallen Empire you will receive one free level 60 character. This character must be a new character, you cannot “boost” an existing character up to 60. Beyond that first one which is included free with KOTFE, you can purchase additional level 60 characters through the Cartel Market at any time,” Musco wrote.
Another little tid bit in case anyone missed this.
Originally posted by Gorwe What I'm worried is that we're at the Gates of swtor:Cataclysm edition. I'm VERY worried about that.
I don't want to fight Arcturus Mengsk(the "Emperor" looks like a spitten image of Arcturus...), I want to fight vs Sith and to fight evil. Come on!
how did WoW do it, did they change the whole gameworld?
You think SWTOR will do the same?
Or maybe create a second version for every planet that you load into if you are above lvl 60?
This is highly confusing, if ten years have passed and the factions are gone, will we still get to play the same warzones?
WoW revamped some of the lowbie zones (like added a chasm through one zone, trashed parts of the capital, etc...) along with adding some new quests that reflected the events (and nuking old ones).
It doesn't look like SWTOR's going that way though. Judging by the info we've seen so far, including the comments on IGN, they're just making the 1-50 experience optional, and they'll be streamlining it a bit more, so that you don't have to do as much side content when you just want to see the class story.
That's why they gave us the ridiculously long 12x class xp boost, soon it'll be easy enough to go through that content anyway. (And in the meanwhile they've got a bunch of extra sub money out of it. Cunning bastards. xD)
If I could play through the character's story line and not really have to worry too much about all the filler quests, the game might be worth playing again. I really liked the main storyline of each character, but the way the game was setup, doing the world quests was just "meh". I was surprised because I usually get side tracked and spend a lot of time on stuff like that, but not in SWTOR.
Which probably says as much about the game as is necessary. It might be fun if I could skip most of it.
i mean once you reach 60 and above fleets would have to be unavailalble nor is there interacting with old planets
i mean for one thing its totally turning it into a single player game
switching engine and calling it something new i think would be more appropriate
I just hope they didn´t go the lazy way and keep everything below 50 exactly the way it was.
But I almost fear they did, looking back always when expectations were at the highest it turned out they went the way of least resistance and made things happen with the lowest possible effort
/GSF anyone? Years of hype around the "Super Secret Space Project" and all we got was a "Super Average Space PvP arena"

You can do that now as a subscriber with 12X Storyline XP. With that, and the free 25% XP bonuses they give you when you complete a planet, you can almost get to level 60 without doing a single side quest. I finished out Corellia with a new BH at level 52 last night.
Or are you referring to the new content, itself? Because SoR was already pretty streamlined; I imagine the new content will be similar. You basically had the main story, a couple class quests, and some dailies that you could probably ignore if you have some 25% XP boosters.
So we get frozen in carbonite and when we wake up 10 years have passed and the factions are gone?
how the hell is that supposed to work, all old planets will have no more empire and republic?
and no fleets anymore?
this change is almost... cataclysmic
yeah im not understanding this as well
loads of questions , interest is peeked though

I'm unclear on whether they're getting rid of factions all together in the kotfe content or whether that just means that the "Outlander" story line will be faction neutral. I certainly wouldn't feel bad about the fleets being replaced with one new faction neutral hub.

i guess my next question would be what happens to peoples strongholds
if you cant go back and revisit the older planets i cant see how strongholds are going to work
