experiment while you level, the build sites are typically for end game, you can structure your build once you get there,

Then it would be a good time to start again and explore the posibiltiy's by playing the game, sure you might make mistakes and you might succeed all mixed up but isn't that the purpose of playing games so that you experiance what is given instead of follow some guide or skill calculator...

Meh.......maybe I'm just too old school to understand why people need guide's or build directions when it comes to playing games.

    It's a shortcut.

When you figure it out yourself, play all 4 classes in stamina and magicka variants, keep up with the big changes and tweaks, you acquire information that you can use to build in a more informed manner. If you haven't done that, listening to what others have come up with can get you up to speed a lot quicker.

There are no builds at Deltia's that I would adopt wholesale but the guy does have a flare for explaining what and why he makes his choices that is easy to understand and informative, especially for new players.

I also enjoy doing my own thing but I understand perfectly why someone who hasn't played the game since beta like I have wants to listen to those who have... at least at first.

Not a "shortcut", rather a lazy crutch. People do not explore a game anymore or truly play in it. Instead they seek to hit the top as fast as they can. Show them how to make a character instead of them taking the time to develop their own. To many players today would rather be a min/maxed clone than original.

I disagree for ESO.  There are so many class and weapon skill combinations (including magicka and stamina morphs of skills) that it's next to impossible to have an understanding of how many of these abilities work together through trial and error in under a year. I've played since launch and it took me almost a year just to have a firm understanding of what my class was capable of. Reading what others use, and why, goes a long way toward you being able to devise your own build.

Its not about copying, it's about learning what's possible.

Lol... you sound like some people here in the pub who love to preach about  the one true way MMOs must be made and played.

You're jumping to extreme conclusions about crutches, hitting the top and clones. Most people just use other's builds to learn and apply it to what they want to do.

Maybe the enjoyment for you is in re-inventing the wheel and guarding your secret. Others share what they learn so that new players can get their knowledge base up to speed quicker.

I have a hard time understanding why anyone would have a problem with that.

I am in no way a "Lazy" person.I do however work 50+ hours a week so i dont wanna have to worry about pouring countless hours into a build that i will struggle with when i can simply ask experts.i dont know the game very well so being an oldschool d2 player i worry about be stuck with building my character in a crappy way that makes the game unfun for me.so ya i dont mind copying someone elses build as long is it fits into the general style of play i plan on going.btw thanks for everyone who gave me links to build sites.

Another site in addition to Deltia's that many PVPers like even better is Sypher's. He may not be as useful for new players because he doesn't walk you through low level builds like Deltia does (now... he didn't always and used to focus exclusively on end-game builds) but you can still learn a lot about why he chooses some things over others from someone whose builds have respect and cred with PVPers.

ESOhead has a good skill/stat calculator.

This is a vid of a nightblade, what most people think of as a rogue class, tanking with a sword and shield:

Wisdom is learning from the experience of others.  Yep I could create my own build and discover for myself that a skill that really sounded great doesn't work anymore because it was nerfed into the ground or I could save a lot of time by finding a good build and using it as a building block for my own style.  But that's just me.
