hello all,
i recently dropped WoW and was thinking about picking up SWG again but i have a series of questions. i have read about the CU and im willing to give it a shot, but there are some other things that are bothering me.
1) how messed up is the economy due to sites like ige? for example, WoW really didnt have any problems but games like L2 were wrecked by it. should i expect outrageous prices for things?
2) how solo friendly is the game after the CU?
3) i have read a lengthy tutorial about the jedi quest, and while being a jedi is not something that i would buy the game for i would still like to try it. so about how long, on average, does it take to unlock the slot?
4) i would prefer to start on a lower population server, are there any new ones, or servers with relatively light populations?
these are all i really have for now, pls let me know.
thanks!

I wouldn't say that the economy is skewed due to outside influences, like IGE, but by the relative ease of gaining credits. I would imagine that economies differ from server to server.

For the time that I played post CU, it wasn't that difficult. Having said that I had a MBH/MRM template.

My only advice to this is try out the quests, if you like it you won't mind the time commitment. This may be a somewhat cynical view, but imo Jedi is SOE's scheme to ensure that a certain population of players keep their subscriptions.

I don't think any new servers have been created recently, however I can vouch for Kettemoor being a small tight community.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Hiya!
Sure
Actually prices are pretty good for things. There are some items that are going to be insane but that's because they're hard to get parts for and a pain to make, not because people buy so many on IGE or whatever. Haven't noticed any real problems with the economy.
Very. I solo all the time. Some will try to tell you that you can't solo since the CURB was done but that's just a flat out lie. Unfortunately for me when the CURB hit I was in the process of changing my template so the Respec, while nice, didn't help a lot since I'd already dropped a lot of trained boxes (so I couldn't just MOVE them). So after the CURB I was about CL50 and had to work my way back up to my double-master in my new professions. I solo'd almost all of it. I still solo regularly and even recently re-did my template again after the respec was over (from MSMUG/MPISTOL to TKM/MCM) and had to grind that from scratch. Most of the TKM part was solo.
Now, it IS hard to grind MEDICAL xp solo but regular combat type XP is a breeze. Medical XP CAN be gotten solo but it's MUCH MUCH MUCH faster in a group
However, I would say that it's more solo friendly than any game except maybe WOW and GuildWars
Ok Jedi is tricky:
1) You have to do several things to get force sensiutive:
2) Once completing the "Get Force Sensitive" portion you then need to visit the force villiage on Dathomir. There you will have to accomplish many quests (which are pretty cool, some are very tedious though) to unlock various trees of force sensitive abilities. These will give you bonuses to your normal abilities like melee defense, etc.
3) Once unlocking (and completing) 6 skill trees (24 skill points) in the Force Sensitive trees you will have to begin your Padawan Trials to unlock your Jedi. And once you do that you then unlock the Jedi abilities and can begin to train them. At that time I believe you are also given a 2nd character slot.
None of the servers are overcrowded at this point. They are all 'medium' or lower population (and always have been)... I don't ever remember seeing a server that was at 'heavy' except right at release.
But if you want a fun server with lots of very mature and friendly players: I play on LOWCA and have never encountered a more fun group of people. My name in game is Taram if you decide to start up there. My PA is very new player friendly and composed mostly of adults, many of us have kids so we understand the whole "running afk to get screaming infant" syndrome.
