Following up to the cult classic Cabal, Cabal 2 is a new free to play MMORPG jumping into open beta on July 2nd. While I've never played the original, I was definitely excited to jump in and see what all the buzz was about. What I've seen in my first handful of hours, however, is nothing but a depressingly boring game without a shred of originality. In fact, Cabal 2 seems so willing to embrace the concepts trampled to death by other MMORPGs, that I felt like I was playing the Frankenstein of games, with visuals, mechanics, and inspirations borrowed from elsewhere—often with worse results.

The story at the beginning I actually enjoy since its more relatable then saving some random village or person.
The combat isn't like Aion, Aion doesn't have a combo system and doesn't have timings to the attacks.
I hope to see a review at least completing the first dungeon. 1st impression reviews aren't very informative especially in a mmo
Hey nhat,
I did complete the first dungeon, Frostrock Forest, and it was awful. Like I said in the article, it was basically one long corridor filled with small groups of monkey like creatures with barely any depth or strategy to them. We just ran in and slaughtered everything, not even working as a team.
The final boss was just a larger monkey, and we killed it so fast I spent the next few minutes confused and thinking that we had missed something. I'm not sure if they're trying to make a dungeon that caters to people brand new to MMORPGs, but even if I had never played one in my life, I'd find it lacking in any ingenuity or creativity.
Have you ever played Aion? They were actually one of the first MMOs to utilize skill chains/combos.
Now, which one of you will adorn me today?
OMG I dont know man they are both horrible real hard to call which is worse.
Not even close to the first but I agree they do have a combo system.
Honestly I think that DAOC would be considered the first. If not DAOC then it would definitely be Cabal 1 which was out before Aion.
The best way to describe Cabal 2 is to say it's like Cabal 1's slightly better looking half sister. That's an air head with nothing to really make her stand out, other then her slightly better looks.
Broken auto-pathing
Boring repeatable quest
Horrible crafting system
Lack of classes
Lack of customization
Broken Mob-tagging system
Few dungeons to break up the boring grind
Horrible Voice overs
and a host of technical bugs for something that is going into OBT tomorrow.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
Show me a screenshot of the flooded server.. I played last night and again today and saw only 1 other player all the way to level 15. 4 people talking in world chat that were rude and dismissive of me.
Aion wasn't the first to do this, not even close. And honestly, Aion's "chain/combo" system only made combat become a repetitive crawl in which you used the same skills, in the same order, every single fight, unless you wanted to do awful dps.
That being said, most of the "chain/combo" systems I have run across in my 30 years of gaming have been rather poorly done. Instead of lighting up some "suggested" skill, why not let players have complete freedom of when to use which skill, regardless of whether that choice is "optimal" or not?

Cabal 2 is a 4 year old game with hundreds of videos on youtube if anyone took a minute to research it.
Honestly if you come into this game and are hugely outraged over the lack of innovation you havent been paying attention to how this all works.
This formula hasnt changed:
Game is released in Korea.
Game does fine in korea.
No NA triple publishers take up game and translate it into english during its prime.
After the game dies in korea, it is purchased by B grade publishers (aeria games, perfect world, etc) and translated into a cashgrab english game.
Rinse and fucking repeat.
Everyone tries to act like estsoft made this game last year with 5 year old mechanics. The only korean game to EVER come out in sync with NA was Aion, and there hasnt been a single mmo since then. Look at blade and soul, 4 years late, already crushed by black desert, its now slining over here with its tail between its legs to follow the same trend.
This game is what it is, if you liked Aion, you will like this, if you didnt like Aion, you wont like this. that is all there is too it.

Have you ever played Cabal 1, you know 3 years before Aions release, complete with combo's :P
Ah OK, thanks for correcting me, a bit disappointing.
I'm going to try it, the development seem to listen a lot more then EoS from Aeria. At least cabal2 didn't gender lock on this release and tried to improve the graphic a little.
Thanks for your reply Steve
You must be on some serious drugs if you think Black Desert is crushing anything, much less Blade and Soul.
Blade and Soul is one of the most played MMOs in asia currently while Black Desert is pretty much an irredeemable ghost town of a flop.
"Cabal 2 seems so willing to embrace the concepts trampled to death by other MMORPGs" ... ah, already like it. :-) To OP, get some real job in gaming industry and start programming yourselff MMO and then start to speak about something "innovative", extraterrestrial .... with every game that comes out. Wheel have been already invented and will stay more or less for eternity the same. Like it or not. And I personally could not care LESS for innovations of yours with every game. Once formula is right, it is just silly to change it for sake of change.
After this article I will definitively try myself Cabal 2. Thanks.
Correct me if im wrong but Cabal 1 had a combo system (cabal 2 is expanding it beyond C1 did), and Cabal 1 is way older than Aion.
