as the title says.. but my main question is, should i buy the expansion straight away or level into the main game first before getting the expansion? any advise would be greatly appreciated.. thanks guys
You have a lot of work before you can even set foot in the expansion..don't bother with it until you're ready. As in lvl 50, completed main story line, completed all update additional storyline.
You wont need anything from Heavansward until you have finished the story from the base game (the game is a final fantasy story so you have to progress the story to get to the new story)
So if you are unsure, then I would suggest just get the base game, make sure you get a friend referral code too as it gives you some nice stuff (PM me if you are stuck, but I have already referred a friend so maybe give it to some one who hasnt?)
Like others have said getting the expansion is useless until you finish the full level 50 storyline. You can't get access to the new class's, new areas, or anything in Heavensward until you are a fully story quested level 50. I'd suggest just picking up the basic game as well after your trial and if you want to later upgrade to the digital collectors edition as that is always an option at a later date if you feel you must have those bonus's.
I also suggest starting through the Recruit a Friend program which yields bonus's to you as the new recruit and to the person's who's code you used. Some of the stuff is very nice and useful plus some nice fluff items as well. Also as the recruiters have a personal interest in your subbing and as such enjoying the game its a good way to make a friend who can help you get going when you have questions or need help. You can pick up a recruit a friend code on the recruit a friend forum post here or if so desire can simply use one from me, WMFTYQK9. I'm on Sagatanas server on the Aether data center which is a NA server that tends to also have somewhat of an Aussie time frame population as well. Look for Syanis Gorgantius (me). However I would suggest if you pick someone else that you find someone on the server you plan to be on and hope they are willing to help a new person out. There are a few tough learning curves at lower level times and some places you can get stuck for a bit without friends.
