The Matrix Online: New Ownership

DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has bought Monolith out of the MMORPG space. Today, the often rumored deal that would see SOE aquire the Matrix Online and the rights to an unannounced DC Comics MMORPG was confirmed in this article on Yahoo News from the Hollywood Reporter, as first seen by us on Blue's News.

Sony Online Entertainment Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are set to announce Friday an exclusive long-term licensing agreement that will let gamers share a universe with DC Comics' Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Sandman and other action immortals.

The companies also disclosed that Sony Online had acquired Warner's "The Matrix Online" game. All 25 staff members currently operating the subscription-based massively multiplayer online game have been offered their existing position under the new ownership.

Wow, I wonder if those games will become part of the SOE All Access Plan.  I would like to see that.

And from now on, Batman & Superman where never again able to do anything on their own and need to group to do the most simple things.

Secondary heros like Robin join guilds, since there was nothing left for them to do in a simple group, and eventually they beat Superman and Batman easily with their awesome raid gear, despite the fact of been, secondaries heros.

Future statements from SoE:  ''We adapt the online game so it reflect the values of the online community that have been prospering for years...''

Zzzz...enjoy, because I clearly wont enjoy such a setting!

Funny I remember Superman grouping with a lot of people and other super heros. Of course we all know he loved to group with Lois the most. image

"Solo is, will always be, the main market. A MMORPG that succeed with little or no solo appeal is doing great considering they are ignoring the main player base.''
Go play Oz online or Solitaire, stop pretending you are speaking for a majority that you have no clue about, and leave the MMOG what they should be : multi-player online games, offering *advanced* interaction between human players. Notice I said offer (what WoW clearly does not enough), not forcing (what Everquest does too much).

About the initial topic, I prefer AO anyway, so we can let SoE have this game too, as if they didn't have enough...

HAHAHAHAHA Watch SoE aquire Blizzard next MUAHAHAHAHAHA. At this rate you people that complain about  SoE will run out of main stream mmorpgs, and will have to go console.

Ok I feel better now that I got my childish rant out. Seriously though, will SoE have the power to start to monopolize the mmorpg market?

Thoom, you forgot EverQuest Online Adventures. If SoE ever decides to do any more console games, it will be a disaster just like that game and its sequel Frontiers.

Or do you mean that the people themselves will go console? There's more than MMORPGs in the PC Market, like the upcoming Baldur's Gate III, Diablo III, and Neverwinter Nights II.

Only SOE would take a look at MxO and say, "Ya, this game is worth buying....SOLD!"

If you thought MxO was bad before, wait until SOE gets their filthy mitts on this one. image

Well all I can say is SOE can't do any worse to MXO then WB, and Monolith have already done. I might actually go back depending on what soe decides to do with it.

    Playing Fallen Earth.

The mind boggles at the creative ways SOE will find to screw MxO up.

The Wachowskis are outta here, I can guarantee at least that much.

    Get ready for NeoQuest.

Ratz.. another potentially good MMORPG killed by big bussiness.

I hate what Sony has done to its offerings, and I don't expect them to change their ways.

    Lol...I didnt see this coming.

Is it SOE's sole purpose to destroy the MMO community and market? ha ha ah ah

Poor MxO players!! they dont know what will come yet!! ha ha ha

Another one lost to SOE.....errr...Ditech xD

There's a possibility that SoE might become a monopoly, just like EA. You can see it in the way they bought out this game. There might be a chance that they will start acquiring MMORPG companies, like NCSoft. This is only guesswork, but it's a good bet that they are.

I wont wait around to see how they screw up this game.  After the CU fiasco in SWG I said goodbeye to SOE and I meant it.  Cancelled my MxO account today.  Of course you must do that by phone.  The woman I talked to denied the "rumor" of being purchased by SOE.  The lies have begun already.
  • KenTsurugiKenTsurugi Member UncommonPosts: 61

It's a possibility that she just wasn't told about it. After all, there have been quiet takeovers before.

MXo Is a really bad game right now. It was bad in beta and bad when i tried to pick it up a couple months after release.

Im not that big a fan of Sony, but whatever Sony does will be an improvement. The worst thing they could do is to not do anything. If they change it enough I might consider playing it again.

Lol...I liked the NeoQuest thing, because I can totally see it now...

"Well, we really didn't wanna leave anyone out, so we decided to let everyone be Neo with our new Neo system. After our previous success with revamping the Jedi system so jedi could outpopulate all other classes, we decided it would be a good choice for MxO. Also, we really didn't like the PvP and we don't think the market does either, so we are going to take that out too. But please, enjoy being uber and doing nothing fun or challenging".

You see? They can make it worse...and they will. Not that it was good to start with, it was already too unchallenging.

  • gmantisgmantis Member Posts: 62

Actually the implementation of neoish powers would make me want to play. If done in a correct way probobly for a long time. If done incorrectly id play it for a month. Which is better for them considering the amount of money their getting from me now which is 0$

As far as removing pvp ::::12::

I can play the villanize sony game too...

I heard Sony will make MxO a Text adventure game...after they get done killing kittens of course

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Thats the best thing I've ever heard!

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

Sounds good to me, more value for Station Access.  Plus I'm not some crazy "l33t d00d" who thinks SOE is the devil incarnate.  image

Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.

This could be a good thing. The game itself is perfectly fine imho. Sorry all you big whinners dont like the game cause you cant grind missions. Boo Hoo. Maybe SOE will take out the mission grind just to make all you lazy bums happier so you can hit 50 without ever trying a la WoW.

Well. once it is officially added to the Station Access plan I will have to reactivate mine. I was paying EQ2, PS and SWG for a long time. I just cut down to only EQ2 a little bit back. With the addition of MxO I will definately resubscribe to the station access plan.

Regardless of what people think about SOE ( and God knows my opinion changes daily ) the SA system is a great deal. I think we're going to see more of this sort of action in the future. Watch companies like Turbine and NCSoft jump on tha bandwagon down the road.

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

  • PuoltryPuoltry Member Posts: 956

All SOE is doing is buying up the competition.Remember when Microsoft was doing that? They saw a little software company with the potential to take a market share and they buy it out and shut it down.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)
