LF Space MMO

Hi all, wondering if there was a space mmo out there but NOT Eve Online.  I've tried Eve online before and also my friend told me in the end you dont even fly or look at your ship you just look at spreadsheets etc hehe.  Well anyways for whatever reason lets take Eve online off the table for now.

Are there any other decent space mmo's that you guys recommend?

Star Trek Online is actually pretty decent for a free to play, some people talk a bunch of smack about it but I found it had some good aspects. End-game can be a bit of a grind, all in all an entertaining moment in my gaming history.

*EDIT* It's been awhile since I played thinking about it, I'm going to install and play some.

You need a joystick for this game, its really good, but you might find that a gamepad is not as good at handling the flight mechanics as a flightstick does in combination with the keyboard, particularly in combat where using directional manoeuvering thrusters can give you an edge.image

Or, if you want something other than an Early Access PvE or 32/instance endlessness of space thing, there is Vendetta Online like @buegur suggested.

It's akin to Eve (with a much smaller playerbase) with twitch combat, and seamless mobile cross-platform support.  It's been around for a while.

Tried the mobile version of Vendetta Online and it is horrible...i'm sure that the PC version has to be better but it isn't free and offers no free trial.

Need to wait on Elite dangerous. They are about to release an "expansion". To take part in that you need to get that which comes with base game...BUT you preorder the expansion..can not play till it releases.

Or buy game now to play and then buy expansion in a few months as well.

Game is very pretty...and worked very well for me. Just gets boring after a while.  And yes need a joystick IMO...some claim to play it w/o but i could not imagine playing without one.

not a fan of the way they are handling the expansions as "seasons" which means that you buy it then they slowly release parts of it as they get them ready over a year.

Time that is done i bet they will have a new expansion and they charge quite a steep price (again IMO) for them. For people that own previous expansions or base game. Seems a good deal for new players that get base game and expansions for lower price than people that buy as you go.

Not a way i would do things... but not my game either:P

Anyhow, my suggestion is to wait for the expansion but then do give it a try.

Tried the mobile version of Vendetta Online and it is horrible...i'm sure that the PC version has to be better but it isn't free and offers no free trial.
Yes, it does offer a free trial.  You have to create an account on your PC (not on mobile).  It's 8 hours of game time once you leave the training sector.  Someone may give you a 2-week friend key which can later extend your trial.

I never minded the mobile version; actually, I think it's pretty awesome... but it could be that I've been acclimatized to the game.  Just this morning I penetrated Serco space (where I am currently KOS) in order to run some behind-enemy-lines operations intended to raise my standing: high level gameplay by veteran standards, and I did just as well as I normally fare on PC (I'm a little surprised by this myself).

"Horrible" is a pretty blanket term... so I'm not sure if you were referring to the controls or not, but there are players who do just as well on mobile.  My guess is that a majority switch platforms depending on the setting; there aren't as many 'pure mobile' or 'pure PC' veterans.

Did they ever get a proper damage model and system working for this game? I tried it out for a while but, docking at warp speed and only bouncing off the ship with the only damage indicator being a health bar decrease was just... well, out of place for a game with that much depth. It broke the immersion and I quite playing after that.

TYVM for the info...When I went to the sight I didnt see the trial option.....The problem on mobile, at least on my tablet, was the flight controls were really bad...I would like to take a look at it on the PC though and 8 hours post tutorial is very fair.

That's a very valid criticism... right now the collision damage is low; you may do some bad damage by colliding with something under full turbo, otherwise it can feel a little bit like flying a ship made out of rubber.  I am not a developer, so I don't fully understand the reason for this, but I wanted to affirm that I've had similar impressions (although, obviously, I've continued playing).  This is in contrast to a game like Jumpgate, where the first time I grazed another solid object I was instantly destroyed.
