Don't Bother

darkrain21darkrain21 Member UncommonPosts: 383
So Thinking about picking up Skyforge? Let me save you some time and HDD space, Don't bother, not yet at least.  While I found the game enjoyable and downright fun. Its action combat tho simplistic i felt I was playing a Devil May Cry game which is awesome. The atlas is a system I adore. The orders are just a facebook game I couldn't care less about but guess what Orderville is all you will be doing for 5 out of 7 days between resets.  The Second limit was released today and it was the same as last week (less if you happened to score a few bonus sparks over the cap) so for the second week you would make even less progress than the first. So I say avoid it, don't bother and just play something else. This is just my thots on the matter what you do is up to you, but don't say I didn't warn you.

  • Just going to go ahead and call out right BS on this!!!

I believe that the opinion you have posted is truthfully your opinion of the game experience for you.

That being said, this will not be the case for such an overwhelmingly large amount of the player base that it is just absurd to share it with others. Especially in the tone of applying your opinion to others before allowing them a chance to try the game for themselves.

I played about 15 hours and got maybe, maybe 50% of the way towards hitting a cap. And that's with premium account bonus gains and while using replicators the whole way.

For those that may not have played yet, and actually read the OP's "woe is me, the content leech that plays a single game 80 hours of the week and then bitch that I have nothing to do."

If you're looking for an ARPG, play it, it's fun.

If you're looking for an MMO, it's not an MMO.

  • It is structured very much like the MMOs FFXIV and DDO. Genre label doesn't change what the game is.

Started playing this at about 6 est yesterday. Played all the way till I got 1500 prestige. I stopped playing at around 12. I barely dented the cap. So yes, if you play 6-8 hrs 7 days a week you will be capped a lot.

This game is definitely an mmo. It's just a certain kind of MMO. It's like a lobby dungeon farmer with certain mmo elements. Co-op, pvp, open world "community" zones. I can't speak for everything since im not super far into it. I didn't notice an auction house and it has a terrible chat system. There is also nothing persistant.

The feeling it gave me the most is that of guild wars....like a mix between guild wars 1 and 2 and vindictus.

I like it more then I thought I would, lets see how long it can hold me though.

For those of us who play 4 or less hours a day will this be an issue?

I can say, as someone who plays more than that, absolutely comprehensively, NO

I have no idea what you are talking about. You must be assuming that any of us that have not played the game already know what "the orders are just a facebook game" even means. Or, anything about the combat system. Or, what a "spark" is for that matter.

Also, using words like this sentence "While I found the game enjoyable and downright fun.", there is no "but" to why it is not enjoyable. Which is followed by, "....I felt I was playing a Devil May Cry game which is awsome." Again, positives without the bad parts you are trying to convince us is the reason for the "Don't Bother" in the thread title.

I don't play Skyforge, nor have I intended to play Skyforge. I just read this to see why I should not bother.

Let's party like it is 1863!

I am slightly confused by the topic.

Did this topic mean do not bother with it's Early Acces so wait untill the game is released due to resets happening and gameplay limits during it's early acces.

Or was this topic meant to not bother with the game?

That's what should be common theme by now, don't bother, see if you wait for a year after launch, that's when you should give any games a good look

80 hours? lol nah i hit cap in 20. And yes a LARGE amount of the community is already voicing their dislike and contempt for this system. And if you actually read my post its a recommendation based off my game time. While at the end I said if you do want to try it try it but dont say I didnt warn you.

But also lets do the math 15 hours and 50% to cap that means it will take you about 30 hours to hit cap, there are 168 hours in a week. Say you only play 2 to 3 hours a day sure thats great the cap works for you (at first untill it instances start giving you 700 a run and then your done in about 3 hours) But for someone like me who only works 3 days a week at 13 hours a day. what am I supposed to do with my other 5 days? Play another game? sure but how is that good for skyforge.

The reasons i posted that I enjoyed the game is because the game has elements to it that are downright fun. And that is also why at the very beginning I said "At least not right now"  The game is good but the limits they impose on their players that just want to play it their way is just stupid. Why should someone who enjoys the game enough to devote many hours to it be forced to stay back and wait for Mr. Casual. Clearly the hardcore have a bit more free time, which is what game developers fight over. They dont fight over your opinons they fight over your free time. Why would I give my time to a game that doesn't want it?

No idea why people feel the need to be vocal saying this game sucks.. Its like any game that is fun and a themepark is blow against their agenda. Some kind of alert sounds and all the trolls come out, someone is having fun playing a game that doesn't fit our demands. Get over it.. go wait in the corner for this mythical sandbox that will somehow satisfy you.

.. until that game shows up I will play whatever I am enjoying for the time being, and won't regret it.

Yeah i agree with your last sentence. Whats funny is most of the games people on this site get hyped about i end up hating.

This isn't always a valid conclusion.  Some level systems are curved exponentially, when means half of level cap isn't half the amount of time needed to hit cap.  You could be level 30 out of level 60 and only be 10% done in terms of time.  This is very common in MMORPG design.  I don't have a clue what math Skyforge uses.

It could be the same amount of time, but that doesn't mean it always is.

I've been playing for the past week with maybe 20 others from my gaming community; NONE of them have complained about hitting cap.  Because nobody has hit cap.  And there are some voracious gamers in the group.  When you say a LARGE amount of the community, I think you overestimate the percentage.  Yes, there may be a couple hundred people posting on the forums.  I have yet to visit the forums, and I'd guess that I'm not the only one.  I appreciate your opinion of the game, thanks for the warning.  I'm not likely to hit the cap for anything any time soon, though.

Been pretty disgusted with the new MMO genre and I am enjoying this game. Love the combat actually. First class I tried was paladin and I just love the playstyle so stuck with it. Normally doesn't happen with my first class choice.

I have been playing it a couple hours every night, and with premium bonus it does not look like I will be hitting the cap.  Much of the time I am "wasting" doing the storyline could probably be spent better grinding instances with a higher damage class.

The cap is certainly a detriment to players more hardcore than I am, but I kind of like knowing that I will not end up ridiculously behind.  If the cap is all that you find negative about the game, I would say the game is doing a good job.

For me the worst thing so far has been the main story - it stinks.  The basic idea seems interesting, but the actual writing is not up to par.  I am hoping they hire some writers and remedy it.  The combat and classes are managing to be interesting and fun enough to more than make up the difference for me.

This game is making me realize that I like learning new games.  A lot of the time with MMORPGs everything is just so similar that there is no learning at all.  I really enjoyed learning the mechanics of my first MMO, and so far I am enjoying learning this game as well.

Edit:  I wanted to add something - OP you sound like a prime candidate for playing without premium.  You will save money (or credits), and you are playing the game enough that you will probably still reach the caps.  A good thing the cap does is prevent super dedicated players from getting premium and grinding everything out.  You can save money and you will not end up behind the levelling curve.

I dont feel like trying to convince anyone again, or argue about it. I will just say one thing.

Its free. Try it! Make your own opinion.

I run one of the top 3 biggest EU Guilds  in Skyforge right now, and we have no issue at all with what the OP mentioned. As a matter of fact we have a lot of fun and most of us have already 100h+ played by now (or more)

Cap is not an issue, the further you progress the more you have to do other than farming materials you gain before cap. On top of that once you reach the cap, you gain simply different materials, that you will definitely want to get as well.

I know a guy who hit the cap actually. He plays in a lazy boy recliner. He doesn't shower either, he just keeps a box of baby wipes to wipe down his taint occasionally. He also keeps a bed pan handy for when those turtle heads poke.

This is the kind of player that is crying about the cap.

I don't like the game, it felt very generic.

ARPG - diablo, Path of exile, torchlight This is not an ARPG.

And outside of the camera perspective how is Skyforge different from those? It's like SMITE and mobas. It's just a 3D ARPG.

It's a lot closer to ARPG than it is to MMO.

Its more an MMO like GW1 was an MMO. Only better then GW1 =-) I find a lot of MMOs lacking with respect to teaming. ESO is one a game my wife and I stopped playing just because teaming was such a pain we could not take it. Skyfore though a lobby game still gets teaming done better then a top triple A MMO. Not only can you play all solo content teamed but it makes it easy to add people to your team and the missions scale to make it more of a challenge and give you a better reward. So IMO its more of an MMO then ESO =-)

In the end, like said above, its free to try. If you do try it, remember first 500 prestige is to learn the game and its just ok. 1000 the game starts to take flight and by 2000 prestige your full skill is needed. So being a free game stick around till you get to know the game for what its worth.

So we are doing the elitist nerd genre dance? Fine. Diablo, PoE are not ARPGs they are hack and slash games.
