A Question About ESO Roleplay

EhliyaEhliya Member UncommonPosts: 223

Hi everyone.  I had a quick question about ESO.

I tried it shortly after release.  But I didn't stay long because I got the feeling that it was mainly a single player style game.  I loved the lore and the graphics were really nice.  But it felt lonely, with a sense it was all about rushing from quest to quest with gear grinding for PVP thrown in as well.  But my stay was so short I admit I may not have been in long enough.  Maybe things got better at higher levels.  Or the game has changed since release.

How would you rate the environment for roleplay?  The sort of "relax and smell the coffee" style of play where you can explore and live in a virtual fantasy world without feeling always like you are a rat chasing the cheese.  Are there people and communities that offer this?  Do the game mechanics encourage it?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

It is an MMO, there is no roleplaying. Just running from quest to quest with some PVP thrown in at the end. I don't even think the game has emotes... might be wrong there though.

The game does have emotes.  There are certainly some gameplay mechanics that aren't about leveling to end game.  Such as fishing.  There are taverns and inns in every city, though I have certainly seen a decrease in roleplay activity since launch.  There is an entire justice system that they added to the game that has nothing to do with the leveling process.  Crafting can literally be done without ever killing anything, although that would be a hard road to follow.  There are tons of little achievements that you get get around the world that do not involve leveling up, though some do.  As far as roleplaying guilds, there are plenty out there.  This is where megaservers shine.  You don't have to worry about a certain guild or player being on a different server, as there are only two.  If you look hard enough, you'll find what you're looking for.  There are tons of pets and mounts already.  A crap ton of outfits, sure in the crown store, but a whole hell of a lot as you progress through the game.  I'm sure they will continue to add small things here and there, and at some point actually figure out how they are going to approach housing.  I'd like to see some sort of gambling get into the game as well, I think that would be interesting.  I've heard rumblings about horse racing.

All in all, I'd say there are a decent amount of sandboxy roleplaying things in ESO.  Not quite as much as I'd like, but I'd say more than the average themepark MMO.

Oh my, Theely is confused or just a bitter troll.  ESO has a lot of organized roleplay and also quite a few people that roleplay if you just run into them.  Below is a link to the main roleplay forum as you can see it is pretty busy.  It is mostly for PC.  If you are xbox or ps4 I think there are issues as there is not any text chat.
