Just curious what's been going on with this indy title for the last 8 months?  The last update on the official web site's front page is from November.  I don't follow Pantheon closely, but I am moderately interested.  What's been going on with it lately?

Has the hype for this died somewhat?

It's years away from release...there's only so much that can be said about what they have produced so far.
  • delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

I would guess its years away too.  I think this is how you have to do kickstarters to collect money, start advertising early then make the game.

It will come around eventually, but a problem would be allowing early alpha players in for PR reasons, then slowly more and more.  By the time of official release and a finished game, players will already be leaving.  There will never be a shock and awe. The game will just slowly materialize.

I think the game will be good !!!!!!............But kickstarters are not good.

We are pushing for a 2018 release with of course Alpha and Beta much earlier than that.

The last update was June 11, 6 weeks ago mate, we released The Dark Myr of Syronai's Rest

Previous to that was Pantheon Update: May 2015

The list goes on with 8 updates all the way back to Jan 31 (with many more previous to that)

We have also stated that we will be releasing a big update in the next couple of months, which is coming along very nicely, I hope you guys will like it as much as we do!

Until that time, it will be quiet and you'll have to put up with talking to me :)

If you like you can join us for discussions on our Official Facebook Page or on our Official Development Site where we post all of our updates as soon as we release them.

Kinda offtopic, but there is worse then putting up with you. Infact i have never seen a company that responce to community as fast as you do. And i do enjoy your comments on facebook (my name there is Marco Heumann) and the forums.

Actually you got me into a discussions over a dozen times now, so i guess you are doing a good job ;-)

Can not wait to continue this ingame as soon as i get that Alpha mail (if i can get the money collected by that time that is).

Edit: Your links above are broken tho.

    to make them work.

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

Hmm those links seem broken for me, or the site is down for maintenance atm.  As an extremely casual follower, and i stress extremely, I haven't been trolling your forums, facebook page, etc.  I just look for news on outlets like this, and check your main page's front page now and then.  I apologize, for some reason I overlooked the blurps on the left side of the main page.  Was looking at the news postings in the center.

    Hi Marco!

Thank you for the kinds words mate, I really appreciate it a lot :)

I am glad you like the discussions, I am a gamer just like you guys and want pretty much what you guys want from EQ/VG/Pantheon so talking to everyone is a lot of fun, especially when we are all wanting the same thing :)

I fixed the links too, thanks man, I think editing does that on this site sometimes as the " rel="nofollow was not added by me lol

Sorry for those broken links, I think editing my post added them somehow, but they should be all good now!

No worries at all, I will always post the announcements straight to our Official Dev Site and Official Facebook then I usually tweet it out on my personal account and tag Brad, Joppa etc. to get a wider reach (since my account is newish and only has 72 followers lol), so if you want the latest either of those methods will get you that information as soon as it's released but there is no pressure to stalk us or follow that info, just know that it's there when you want to check it and have a look :)

It's good that you guys have a somewhat realistic release plan, compared with so many other Game companies, who promise that their games will be released after a year or so and two years later they still have not done much progress with their game. Is ETA for alpha test still in the end of this year or do you feel it might be little later than that? Also what's your goal when alpha starts... Was it to finish around 5 classes up to level 10 or more than that? Just so we know what to expect.

It's a rough estimate, so I play it safe and just say 2018 but that is not a solid release date, we will have more accurate information released once we get to Alpha and Beta and know where we stand with testing but we do want a long Alpha/Beta period to catch as many issues as possible. ;)

Thanks, Elmberry, we try to keep it realistic, not only for ourselves but for you guys too, we don't want to be making promises we can't keep or letting anyone down, so far everything is on track and going well, the next big update will release a ton more information so expect that in the next couple of months.

I don't have a date for Alpha yet sorry mate, it will roughly be end of this year or early next, but I will get that information out to you all as soon as I can, sorry I can't be more specific yet.

I think overhyping a game years before release just is a stupid idea anyways.

We have heard of the game which is good, and it do sounds interesting but the hype really should start 6 months before launch or even 3 months.

When people get too hyped up years before launch it just leads to impossible expectations and everyone will think the game will just be their way and when they try out the beta a lot of people loses interest. Also constantly hearing info about a game that you know you wont see for a long time means people might tire of it without it even being launched.

It is far better to surprise people with an almost ready game, showing off the cool features that actually works by now and then start the beta soon after.

So bide your time and blow our socks off when the time is ready. :)

Well that is your opinion Loke666 and you are entitled to it, but the reality of it is much different mate, especially making an MMORPG with open development rules, instead of a closed door policy like the good old days where companies would work for ~5 years on a game in secret without anyone knowing (or very few) and 6 months prior to release, start a marketing campaign to rev up the hype and push promotions etc. back then the companies paid alpha and beta testers and the public wouldn't even know about it.

It doesn't quite work like that with open development games that have tried or succeeded in crowd funding, though. It is much more transparent which can be very hard to manage, especially since it is still fairly new to a lot of companies, including us.

We have business plans, strategies, management structures and many other professional mechanics in place to manage our game development, marketing and business plans. We give as much information as we can to our supporters in these early stages while also preparing for a big release to show off what we are capable of and how far we have come in such a short time (which you can see that we have already come leaps and bounds from our original conception), considering ~5 years is the average to make an MMORPG and we have been at it for ~1 year ;)

We are very careful not to overhype our game, though, as you can see from our releases to date.

Thanks for the comment, mate :)

Kilsin, it's nice what your doing here with face to face updates and allowing would-be players to ask questions.  This does show professionalism.

I'm looking forward to Pantheon Rise of the Fallen.  I think your cause is just and it's a game that mmo players are looking forward to.

I think both you and Loke666 are right.  Crowd funding has to began advertisement early, however hype dies out given time.

I'm totally looking forward to the game but, I'll have to keep the game on the back burner until closer to release date. To study deeply or even to invest too early would simply be a poor investment of time and money for any logical person.

Just today I was seriously looking into a new crowed funding car manufactured in Shreveport Louisiana by Elio Motors. This car is basically a three wheel motorcycle incased in a cars body.  It gets 83 mph ( not proven ), but the company is keeping it a secret and very few had seen this vehicle, yet many orders have been taken and paid for WITHOUT EVEN A TEST DRIVE.

However production has been pushed back several times and the buyers are getting nervous.....Many are beginning to call it a scam ! Their are web sites specifically in calling it a scam...I'm actually interested in this vehicle, but as I stated before a venture such as this is a bad investment for now.

Point being, Logical people should not look too far into the future.

    Thanks mate :)

I agree it can be a risk with any investment and I understand your comparison, but it is a little different with our situation, we are not allowing the public to invest in us but rather donate to show support for our ideas/plans while we actually make the game, we will never ask or force anyone to support us, all we can do is continue to put forward our intentions, releases, updates, demonstrate our work/progress in screenshots and videos and if people like them and wish to support us, they can, the public donations help us a lot with developing the game, without them, our progress would be much slower, but it still wouldn't stop us.

Once we get this big update out in the next couple of months, things will start looking a lot different. ;)

Good luck with the car man, I hope it works out for you and becomes a smart investment, the idea alone sounds pretty cool!

What is the latest news with the "angel investor" plan? Has one been found or are you guys attempting to make the entire game with forum access fee's? I sincerely hope the devs aren't working for Brad IOU's lol.

For that matter, what is Brad's role these days? He rarely talks about Pantheon anymore, even on his own forums. Did he pass off this project already? Haven't heard much from Joppa either, is he still involved?

The companies financial situation is for internal discussion only.

Brad's role is Chief Creative Officer (CCO), the same role he has held since the start, It is displayed clearly on our development site if you wish to check it out, it is all listed under the "About Us" tab.

He doesn't post much because, like the rest of the team, he is busy working on the game, once we get passed this big update and release it, you will find more of the team will talk about their progress but until then, it's heads down and back to work!

*le sigh* Such a cop out answer. There are people who donated early but refuse to pay for forum access being left out of your "internal discussion." Surely they deserve to know the financial situation of a game that exists partly because of them. Right?

No one cares what is listed in About us, that doesn't mean he didn't pass off the project and keep the title. Brad went from talking about Pantheon constantly to never saying a word about it. He still posts in Off topic and on other boards so the "hard at work" answer is out. If he's just trying to lay low that's fair but he's done the CEO disappearing act before and his demeanor toward Pantheon is questionable lately, at best.

Same with Joppa. He get demoted or something? Obviously they don't have to post here but they are pretty much dead silent on your own forums all of a sudden. Odd

Brad posts on the Pantheon forums every few weeks. There is no reason to assume anything has changed. This is not Vanguard and they are not being forced to launch a game a year early. Its beyond ridiculous to continually reference a horrible situation such as Vanguard where they lost investors and were forced to launch a game a year early.

Just this week Brad also posted 2 very good blog entries.

This is not Vanguard when Brad proves it so and not before. You just posted 2 blog entries that have absolutely nothing to do with Pantheon and all his posts in the past months have been similar. If you came here to prove my point you succeeded.

I'd go through the trouble of finding all his recent Pantheon related posts on their forums for someone who sincerely cares about the game, but you've made it clear you do not. I'd say do it yourself, but its obvious you only want to disperse your tinfoil hat theories. Also, the blog 'Does a core group of gamers really go away' is very relevant to Pantheon. However, you aren't going to find the nonstop updates you want from Pantheon or any other small game company in pre-Alpha development. They are busy working, and with less than a dozen people on the project, constant updates or reaffirmations would only slow down the process. They've announced an update goal (Aug-Sept) many times this year, and until then, I wouldn't expect further details.

I am absolutely still here - Pantheon's development is moving triumphantly forward.

We will be making some announcements in the next couple of months that will not only reveal the last 6 months of development, but paint a clear and exciting picture for the road ahead.

But until we are ready, we think less is more when it comes to updates - I think most will agree when the time comes.
