Love the complainers that are never happy. They stated they would be working on a faster Expansion release times and people here said they never would. Now they do and people instantly say it will be crap because of the short cycle. Guess it is true that his site is the bastion of the never satisfied....sorry I mean MMO'ers.

Nah. You got it right the first time.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
They need to announce that the next expansion is the final/wrap up of the entire Burning Legion/Old God storylines and the end of World of Warcraft.
And then release WoW 2.
Anything else is going to fall and deaf ears to me.
Absolutely bang on, and tbh if they did do this it would be a fitting end to a once great game, end on a high, with a phoenix arising from the flames. Smart move blizzard - can they see it I wonder?
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
What I wonder is whether this announcement has been made now because next week (Aug 4th) Activision Blizzard announce their results. Have subs risen, fallen or have tokens helped hold the fort?
If they have fallen however Blizzard will be able to say "it is just a part of the normal pre-expansion cycle" <cough> <splutter>.

I totally agree with you about enjoying WoD. Also it would be awesome having underground zones like RA Salvatore's/Drizzt Do'Urden's homeland of Menzoberranzan.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Watched the documentary and Blizz said the new people they hired for WoW needed to be trained around a year at least or something like that to reach Blizz polish standards, but people were immediately expecting faster content after the hires...

From my understanding and information channels, they were well up-to-date before the WoD was even launched. Most of them were hired early to mid MoP or sooner, and WoD was pushed back a good nine months or so as is.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.
50$ yearly expansions on top of a subscription fee and cash shop here we come weeeeeee! How is that one content patch per expansion treating the WoW players? ;P
that was a very interesting bit of damage control and desperation. Especially as this would have been the big ticket item for Blizzcon.
I think they actually are a bit worried.
This is only an announcement that it's in the works, and a title. It will GUARANTEED be THE big ticket item at this year's Blizzcon.
Why do they need this to Guarantee Blizzcons success? Are they suffering and losing their fanbase?
To quote a comment I made in another post re this announcement...
"If they don't provide an expansion release date here I'll know for sure they're desparate. To me it feels that they're trying everything within their power to ebb the flow of massive sub losses. Surely they were planning on revealing this huge announcement at Blizzcon for the fans.
I have a similar gut feeling to Tawess in that they are worried, but more more worrysome to me is that the current model they're flollowing does not work. If their future expansions are going to use the same model as WoD in terms of content verses cost of expansion then more will leave.
Originally posted by danwest58 Good for them. Don't matter to me though not coming back. I started playing in Dec 04, and I am sorry but WOW really became a wreck from WOTLK on. Every Xpac I was hoping they would learn their lesson from making the game more and more a single player game. They have not so I am not going to be back.
I started Fall 04. Not going back either. No point. Most of my guild has bailed.
Lets hope Blizzard has learned it's lesson and goes back to it's roots. After playing EQ2 recently, a game that for me blows WoW away in so many ways, there is so much that has changed from launch that has made WoW less of an MMO and more of a lobby based dungeon runner/farmville game. For me, EQ2 is the true MMORPG king, but I do love WoW and it will always interest me, I just hope they fix it so I can come back and enjoy it again they way I did from vanilla to Wrath of the LIch King.

So much this ^^
In this age of reboots and reboots of reboots... it only makes sense.
Especially with the new movie coming out.
Path to success-
1. Next xpac is final WoW xpac, ties up/finishing out WoW storyline including burning legion, old gods
2. WoW goes F2P with final xpac
3. WoW continues on F2P path with small core team, releasing new and remade dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, a new zone or two every now and again, etc. under the new F2P model
4. WoW 2 is announced - next/current gen engine, retains open world, I'd hope is even cross platform with XB1 and PS4.
5. Goes back to Vanilla-esque roots of open world exploration, combat, PvP, crafting, only features focused questing (like a main story thread only), public open world events/content, public and instanced dungeons & raids, world bosses, deep character customization, stats, talents, dozen+ races and classes etc.
6. Storyline is set in the movie universe. Game begins after events of movie. Chance to re-write cannon, fix previous mistakes, reintroduce characters and key plot events to new generation of Warcraft fans
People are not realising the development path Blizz is now taking, a new MMO? WOW2? way to risky an investment.
Exhibit A; heroes of the Storm and Exhibit B; Overwatch.
They know players can't be assed to actually work for their content, hence the path they took WOW down into a facebook, dungeon finder, mount shop, everyone gets a ride experience
We will see a similar patch, minor story progression, I would agree with potential increased free to play aspects, but it will look something like what they already have, but increasing free from 1-20 to 1-60.
Your post fills me with optimism however, in the past they have proven us wrong time and time again throughout every IP they have slowly cut down and bastardise to what they assume modern audiences want.
Making so much noise you dont know when to listen.
Well, if the rumors/"leaks" are to be believed, we'll lose pretty much all of the 'old-school' heroes that have been in the franchise since the start (Khadgar specifically).
Now this would be fine...if they made NEW heroes that we could actually give a shit about.....Garrosh could have been another Thrall, but no. Had to make him relatable to the teenage boys going through hormonal changes (sooo angsty!). Jaina could have been another Khadgar, but no. Had to "prettify" her to make her relatable to all the teenage girls playing WoW (she didn't see the need for makeup; SHE WAS A FUCKING SORCERESS, a "book worm"). Varian could have been another Bolvar, but no. Had to make him a counterpart of Garrosh (again, so angsty).
None of the new heroes I really give a shit if they die. And the 'remakes' of the old ones make me wish they'd get pushed off into the Maelstrom.
Blizzard, you want me to play your game? MAKE ME CARE ABOUT IT! There's a reason I play on Private 1.12.1 servers. Because I care about THAT version of WoW, where you were trying to make the best possible game. Not this horseshit, "uber-monetized", bastard thing that gets boring about half way through LEVELING (for me that was about 3 weeks [ya, I know, I'm a slow leveler]).
.....christ I was even foolish enough to get the 90 Boost for all 9 of my characters (because I completely skipped that Asian-pandering Expansion that MoP was). Figured, "hey, this looks like the game will be going back to Azeroth, back to WARCRAFT". Nope. Just Facebook in Warcraft.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
I doubt we will ever see a WOW 2 (Titan) The paradigm has changed and Blizzard knows it. The development costs and length of cycle are too long with way too much potential to fail. In the irony department, Blizzard has the funding to pull it off yet can't even seem to meet the needs of the existing fanbase. Really no excuse for this given how much money is still pouring in....
I didn't dislike WOD. It lured me back to the game and I had fun playing it but it was too short with too much grind. The dumbing down of crafting and making all of the classes more vanilla isn't a plus for me. Personally, I played a Warlock from launch and was influenced to drop that as my main class after a massive nerf to my preferred spec (Demonology) Those kind of design swings for a 10 year old game leave me scratching my head too. I fully expect class balancing at launch but after a decade when people have that much time invested?
I agree with some of the other posters here too. It is hard to be at all invested in the story when much of it is just clearly designed for a given demographic vs. fitting well in the game word. Kind of like watching the 2nd Star Wars trilogy....cough cough...
Time for something fresh. We need innovation in the MMO space. While some of us remember early MMOs fondly, we wouldn't tolerate some of the conventions that existed then; e.g. corpse runs, exp penalties, etc. The genre is getting tired.
Want to grab my attention? Tell me why I should play your new game. What's unique? What's innovative? What's isn't but is something I wouldn't want to do without? Let me know you understand what I like and what my friends like and why it makes sense for us to play together... Make it compelling and I'll give it a try. Oh and want to charge me a pile of money for alpha aaccess so I can help you test it? Yeah thanks but I have tried that and have a T-Shirt collection. That's going to be a pass for me. Oh you have a Kickstarter? Well, OK I'll consider it but you need to be really clear about what you are trying to do and I give extra points for track record...Currently supporting Crowfall and Underworld Ascendant largely based on the development teams. Wasteland 2 and Torment were funded for the same reasons.

9 months after WoD launch... we're just abandoning ship on this, ain't we? lol

No more no less than they abandon ship on any expansions for the new one.
Not true. All expansions had frequent content updates until the next expansion release. WoD has only had one.
