This is the one thing that annoys me the most. I like to create character a lot and reuse names someties to try and get the race and class I wantt o play. The wiat to delete over time is just bringing me to a hault , because of the limitation it brings to character creation freedom.
When I run out of deletes, I usually log out, really a annoying to have to wait to get to a place where I can actually start playing.

I'm a confirmed altoholic and 3 deletes per day has never been an issue for me... shrug. As I've said many times, in MMOs there is no issue too trivial or too good that won't generate complaints.

I like to be able to test out classes + races to come up with what I feel is going to be a good build. It takes me less then 24 hours to play through enough ontent to see if the character is going to be a fit for me.

It's a great way to battle gold farmers. They haven't "hacked it" or worked around it. I have seen no botters or farmers since this went into place a year ago.
24 hour play through can tell you next to nothing if you don't have enough skill points to actually get a feel for a race and class.
99% of players don't even know this exists and the ones that do are usually trying to use their accounts to do something other than actually play the game.
I'm that guy who if 1 skill point is miss placed, and don't have any gold to reset, I reroll. If the characters nose just isn't what I want, reroll. If I forgot to do the voice part of character creation reroll. If they are going to lock a player into that character for 24hours, at least let them continue to modify how the character looks with in that time. If the character is not looking a way that I want, I would rather reroll then wait. If I'm waiting , I will playing something else. Wrong faction . reroll ect ect.
I understand that people don't like gold farmers and think this is keeping them out of the game,... google says otherwise. Gold farmers are always 100% ahead of any system to hamper their trading. To think because one does not see the spam in chat that it is in anyway hampering the gold selling trade, is very naive.
A little off topic, Gold sellers require advertising to bring the customers to them, if there is nothing happening in chat to alert would be buyers of gold, the efforts of the gold sellers is there-by wasted, word of mouth will not bring in enough revenue to make this a profitable venture, for the time invested.
As for the deletion dilema, well I'm afraid the mechanics put in place are more popular and wanted by players than not, so it's a case of either live with it or not, if your need to create and delete characters has reached that point where it seriously impacts your enjoyment of the game, due to you wanting to experiment with various race/class combo's then your kinda stuck.
I prefer my games to have some kind of barrier to putting off gold sellers from peddling their wares in any game I may play, even if it means having to wait for a set period to delete an unwanted character.
When they put this limit in-game there was a dramatic reduction in the number of gold sellers in general chat. It was like turning off a light switch. That's why they did it, and for better or worse it really did seem to make a lot of difference.
It's annoying that things like this are needed to discourage them - but they do have that effect.
I just did a quick google and eso gold, items, and power leveling are still being sold. So maybe it slowed them down a little but not totally. Players who use such services pretty much know where to go already, including players who farm and sell gold to gold farmers for resell.
I also create a lot of test characters and will delete a character rather then pay for an expensive respect if the character is still a low level. That said, their 24 hour 3 character delete rule was never a problem for me.

On one hand im with the OP, i create delete characters trying to get the one that resonates the most with me.
On the other hand, im with you, Iselin. Ive never had a problem in ESO with the 3 deletion daily limit.
At least is 3 instant deletions every day. Some Free to Play asian mmos make you wait a whole week BEFORE the character is even deleted and the name becomes available again.
I like to be able to test out classes + races to come up with what I feel is going to be a good build. It takes me less then 24 hours to play through enough ontent to see if the character is going to be a fit for me.
I also find this a weak way to battle gold farmers, to subject all players to a hampering mechanism. Golf farmers already moved past this mechanism or hacked it.
I'm like you I want to test out different classes with different races. The 3 delete per day (or whatever it is) has hampered that a bit.
I've been waiting for Zenimax to implement something to allow one to change the look of one's character after creation but they have not done it. Even though I would gladly pay for it. So, I just deleted my level 48 character as I couldn't stand the look. This is a shame but I found that what one creates in the character creator is slightly different from in game.
And then trying out the new looks with the limit has been a pain in the neck.
I imagine that this is not a problem for most people, however.

I have the sort of opposite problem in FE. I am running around in generic gear when all the other players have the cool costume items from the cash shop.
And I want to look like that too but I am too cheap! But I might break down and spend some bucks soon.
My simple point here is we can't change games for all of our individual whims. It just won't work. It has to benefit the majority, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, no worries there. I can easily see the absurdity in my tastes.
Part of the issue is I'm an "artist". By that I mean I compose (degree is in musical composition with degree work in classical guitar and Harp), write, act and have drawing talent. Aesthetics are very important to me "when they are important". And when I see something that is "off" to my aesthetic tastes it starts to bother me. One of the reasons I find composing (and art for that matter/writing too) an iterative process. I'm constantly tweaking.
This is one of the reasons I'm excited over the newer games coming out as their character creators allow more freedom. To me each character "is a character" as if I was drawing them and writing out their back stories as well as how they fit into the world.
