Looking for an MMORPG and need suggestions

So after getting disappointed with playing yet another edition of Action Adventure MMORPG with Final Fantasy XIV, does anyone know of any recent MMOs that have adopted more of an original Everquest / Final Fantasy XI approach to play?  I'm trying to find one that has a more up to date control scheme and better graphics, but I don't feel like I'm finding anything.  I've heard Age of Wushu might be sort of like that as it's more about growing the character incrementally? I mean I'm not looking for forced grouping to advance as much as just the slower advancement so it isn't all about end game.

It feels like there's a lot of MMOs coming out and not a lot of ones that really show signs of their pen and paper / MUD roots.

As soon as you say "better graphics"  you wipe out most of the better choices. 

 

I say open your mind and look at the game as a whole and not as a sum of all the things you like

 

You won't like 'em all but you might find some you thought you would never like.  And that in itself is fun.
