Hated beta... play on Xb1 & I'm loving it now

ImpmonImpmon Member UncommonPosts: 81

I downloaded the beta test on the PC.  Really hated everything that I saw.  The combat, the animations, everything seemed sub par compared to existing MMO's.

Year later I get it for the Xbox One... wow.  I can't stop playing.  The games awesome now.  There is so much to do in this game I'm surprised.

Character creation is somewhat daunting because the possibilities are quite extreme.  You can literally make whatever you want in any given class.  Sure the archetype templates exist for pure dps, tank or healer types however the trinity doesn't really exist since every class and fulfill those roles to a certain extent.

Upon reaching 10th level I entered Cyrodil.  At first I was running around a gigantic empty map.  I came across an enemy settlement & began fighting some guards.  Yes at 10th you can do this because they give you a buff which increases your stats based on your level.

Shortly later another player arrived & invited me to group.  We started taking out the camp & a huge zerg arrived of our faction.  We ran with them and stopped an assault on our elder scroll keep.  It was a blast.  Not only that but the pvp rewards are awesome...  Almost makes me not wanna do regular pve because I can purchase vendored gear way better then what was obtainable outside in non pvp world.  Thing is you can still use those pvp related vendored items in pve land too lol.

Crafting, lore, are all amazing.  Theres so much.  Find a little book and theres pages of lore created.

I'm currently working on a dunmer dragonknight on Xb1.

Curious that since you hated everything that you saw, what convinced you to buy it this time??

Wait let me guess:  someone bought it for you?

So only having voice chat doesn't make the game a little hard to play. players on site have been yelling for text chat from the first day. They say it is so bad hearing kids, people arguing, dogs barking, loud music being played and hard to really pickup a group or add people to guilds because of no text chat? Also not having text chat for role players makes it super hard for those that do role play.

Yet ZoS ignores all requests for text chat.

Or how about the justice system that isn't even half way done?

Can you just plug in a standard usb keyboard or does it have to be an xbox peripheral?

Because text chat with a controller is just a waste of time.   If this is the case, ignoring it is the correct choice.

It's weird to me to see these posts. No offense but it just seems like many people went into Beta with an expectation of negative reaction and found just that, as the game hasn't changed much from that time. At least in terms of overall quality of content, lore, combat, as well as game-play in general. It has simply improved in terms of no quest bugs, stability, etc... Sure they've had some nice additions, with more to come, but who didn't see that coming after Beta?

I saw this same thing when TOR went F2P, which that game barely changed at all from what it was early on as well. Except the addition of more paygates.

Like I said I just find it weird.

I honestly felt the same thing Distopia.

I think people hear bad things and go into a game already hating it.  Which Is why I asked if the game was given to him.  With a free game and no expectations maybe thats why he has suddenly changed his tune.

    Two things...

A lot of people seem to have this expectation that a sub game should be much better than a F2P or B2P game to be "sub worthy" despite the fact that to enjoy everything any of them have to offer you'll pay about the same for both in the end, if not more for the F2P ones.

Then there's all the hysteria - both pro and con - that surrounds any AAA title at release. Those who are easily influenced never get a chance to check it out for themselves without preconceived notions they got from a quick review by just some random guy trying to make a buck with click bait. Those reviewers have moved on to hype or trash something else now.

A typical comment I hear from new players on Teamspeak is "why were so many people knocking this game? this is a lot of fun." And it really hasn't changed all that much since release.

The framerate is really bad on Xbox One for this game. Just a warning to anyone who could be playing it on PC instead.

I think another factor is that the game when it launched was "not good".

There were a lot of bugs, crashes, security issues, downtime, the bank issues, duplication issues, bots and so on and so on. And then I suggest you think: stunning landscape obscured by fog; or a fabulous meal served on a dirty table and plate with dirty cutlery and a fly or two on top or an unpolished gem or ....

And whilst you can work through such stuff most people - and understandably and rightly so - have no interest in doing so. You buy a toaster or a car or go and see a film and you expect whatever you have bought to deliver.

And then the game looses momentum so instead of people trying the game thinking "a lot of people have said good things about this" they try it having read / heard a lot of negativity. Which in turn maintains a sort of "death spiral".

TESO today - I would suggest - is technically essentially the same game it was at launch but the fog has been blown away.

Yeah, that's a good point. And it's something that affects the first time MMO players more than the vets. We've gotten used to the fact that MMOs launch with lots of bugs, always have and always will... so we work our way around them but it can be a real turn-off for those new to MMOs.

ESO has gotten better.  They plan on improving xp to make leveling faster.  Now more then ever waiting seems to allow companies to work out a lot of bugs before you get into the game.

In beta consoles had text chat, they removed it when it went live. If you check out the official forums you can see a new post every day asking when they are going to put text chat back in. The dev's ignore it daily.

I think most people love it initially until they hit VR ranks and then the nose dive happens. At least that's what happened to myself and some co-workers I began with.  I can see why he didn't like it at release though, All of the bot trains and hackers. I remember picking a berry once only to look down onto a bots head in the dirt and he continued to hit every node I was heading to..At least they finally took care of all that nonsense.

so basically OP, you played Beta, got to level 5, got bored and quit, and now actually got past that and are enjoying it.  Come back around level 25 and see if you still are, thats when I started hating it myself.  But at least I gave the game a good try originally
