Any opinion on which MMO would have a "better" future for incoming content, have an active playerbase, etc?
I know both fit my style, but the biggest thing with MMOs is they take time and I'd rather focus on one and enjoy that instead of bouncing back and forth between a bunch. (Was thinking on returning to SWTOR but it seemed pretty dead and was basically just solo storyline stuff)
Comments
- both have an active playerbase.
- both are fun
- both will sell expansions
- none require a subscription to enjoy the full game.
- and both have a bright future.
Why not play both then decide which one you enjoy the most?
I personally prefer GW2 but my PC died so im playing ESO on PS4.
Playing what others tell you to play is just limiting yourself. Stick to your best experience, and you can only do that by trying both first.
EDIT: if i had to recommend one, i would recommend both. Period.
I played both.
Both are fine for what they are.
I now prefer ESO. Love the play style, music, and the awesome graphics.
Personal choice really.

It is not "archaic", it is called preference. Some people like to devote themselves to one MMO at a time.
You can always play some ESO now and go over to GW2 when HoT comes out, that way you get a lot new content when you get back to GW2 besides Dry top, Silver marches and if you been gone a long time Southsun cove.
Both games are good, I myself prefer Gw2 but switching between 2 games have advantages, harder to to burn out that way.
But the I am jaded over the poor release that will be hot. Their monitozation and lack of anything to show says a lot about their future
.

As long as you are enjoying what you are doing, then you are doing it right.
Like many people have said, you could play either or both since you have them both.
The games aren't equal in the slightest and big shocker, I think GW2 is a superior game. I'm a huge fan of Bethesda and Elder Scrolls and I wanted it to be a great game...
None of that matters. Play what you enjoy.
That's rich mentioning monetization. Bethesda with their giant money grab, charging 60 a game, plus another 20 to play imperial plus the money for a mount that you HAVE TO HAVE. And the 15 a month they were charging.
Look at the incredible future of ESO that we see now. It's free to play, what's next?
I mean really, are you kidding me?
I don't have to spend money on anything in guildwars 2. I've occasionally bought gems to transfer to a server and that's it.
Did you see Angry Joes ESO review? His money grabbing alter ego were laughing a lot in that one.
Bethesda have not been better than NC soft at all. Now, if HoT will be a small cashgrab expansion that might show things to be otherwise but that we wont know until it actually launches.
I been playing GW2 since head start and I put in far less money than anyone playing ESO since launch have done. I don't see how GW2 would be the money grab there.
ESO is still not a bad game though.
It's just that I haven't been into MMOs for a loooong time. (just noticed my join date on here jeez lol)
I'd like to be active on one, since I do play other games and such. Never been the type to bounce around multiple MMOs so I'd like to invest my time in (money isn't as big of a factor) into the one that would most likely last around longer with meaningful updates and still have a bustling community.
OR any other suggestions besides those two is welcome too but those had a good mix of PvE and PvP and some semblance of story quests.
I've played Gw2 since launch. What they have to show with evolving their game since that time is down-right pathetic for the money that I have put into it.
Just my opinion; Gw2 has failed, IMO. ESO has the build variety that I was expecting of gw2.... that is an embarrassment to have ESO pick up the GW1 legacy for build variety.

Either that or to switch between the games, 2 weeks one and 2 weeks the other. He already owns GW2 and ESO after all and since neither have a monthly fee to play the main cost would be HoT for GW2 and possible the optional fee for ESO.
But in GW2s case will hopefully the new mastery system fix this to some degree.
Good idea! I like to rotate between 2 or 3 titles so I don't get to bored. Before I leave a game to play another, I leave it at a point where I look forward to coming back, like when I'm about to level, or I have tons of stuff on the AH and know there will be money waiting for me. I know it's hard for some folks to play more than one game at a time due to work or school, but I have the time to do it!
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Not really, plenty of young people only plays candy crush or something a few months and then move over to something differently.
There have always been some people who get stuck in a certain game where others switch between several games at least since the day of the C-64.
Just like some people tend to almost only listen to the same artist for a while and others wanrt a mix, possibly of different music genres as well.
Some people just have a one track mind but that isn't a bad thing, just a preference.
Pretty much this. As of this writing, I prefer ESO only because I played so much GW2 in the past. Both are solid games now. Can't go wrong with either theme park games, so play both if you haven't. There doesn't have to be only one.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
It's no secret I'm no GW2 fan for a number of reasons.
That being said the path that ESO is on is awe inspiring. If ZOS keeps adding updates like the Imperial city every 3 months it will be something the industry has never seen. The IC not only added a massive amount of game space, but it also added a massive amount of gameplay systems.
Right now ESO is firmly in the growth phase of it's life cycle. PLayers have a lot to look forward to.
