The estimated launch per the KS is December 2016. If they can hit that date, regardless of what WoW does, that's when it will launch. As we all know, dates slip, so it's entirely possible it doesn't launch until 2017 some time, but purposefully shooting for summer 2017 because of WoW would be foolish.
Some people have mentioned the big "IF". IF this game gets made. IF they have enough money. I backed this game. It was the first and only time I have ever backed anything on KS or any other crowdfunding site. I backed because I like the ideas they have for the game, but more importantly, I backed because I believe in their ability to deliver it. From day 1, these guys have been extremely professional and organized in their approach.
I look at a game like Chronicles of Elyria, which also has a lot of great ideas and I really hope it gets made, but I don't get nearly the same level of confidence from its devs as I do from Crowfall's. The Crowfall devs give regular updates on financial matters. They talk about how they are raising money and what they plan to do with that money. How many other game companies can you say that about? They explain their design decisions rather than just throwing them out there. Some decisions are based on financials, like using Archetypes rather than Race and Class. Some decisions are technical, like with the update they posted yesterday.
In the KS, they estimated that the first pre-alpha testing would begin summer of 2015. They are on target for that, as the first test should begin within the next 2-4 weeks. They have made promises of rewards on KS and they have fulfilled many of those promises already.
This is a company with a plan and the ability to execute it. I understand being skeptical. We've all been burned before. But I don't see Crowfall falling into the same trap as SC with scope creep. I don't see them failing to deliver on their promises. The game may not end up being as good as we all hope it will be, but that's life. Few things in life ever live up to the hype. If any game has a chance to though, it's this one.
