[Poll] Would you play Time Lock Progression WoW?

KeenoKeeno Member UncommonPosts: 56
edited August 2015 in The Pub at MMORPG.COM
Seeing as time locked servers are starting to pop up I was wondering if people would re-subscribe to play through the old classic and beyond versions of wow. If you don't know what a time locked progressions server is its when they start the game over from the beginning on a new server and cast server wide votes at set time intervals to determine when new content gets added such as raids or expansions.

Yes... and without quality of life changes. I don't mind like bug fixes and the like that are completely detrimental or huge exploits, but if you are going to do classic keep it in all its glory (and pain). Changing things just defeats the purpose. Even if it makes things 'better' it loses the feel of what time lock is suppose to bring, and is just countering the appeal of it. A good example of this is Time Walker dungeons, which just don't deliver anywhere near the same feeling.

    Nah, no interest.

Going back and doing MC for the 10 year made my realize just how far WoW has come. Paladins spamming kings for hours, mages just doing decurse, it just doesn't seem fun in hindsight.

I consider UI and graphic engine as "quality of life", so I voted yes, but with some improvements which would not affect gameplay.

Oh and don't put too much value in the results of such a poll here on these forums. 90% of those who voted 1 would quit after a short while, bored.
    same here

I had fun once, it was terrible.

Probably just for nostalgia but I don't see myself playing for long, wows endgame content in vanilla was shit, you were either a no lifer or you could only grind factions rep. The reason I am loving eq2 now is because I have never played the content as I have only got to lvl35 or so before. Biggest draw is that it's new content and there are tons of people levelling to make it fun.

wow on the other hand  was my main mmo for the longest period of time, I have played all of vanilla, tbc and wotlk and I know almost everything, I have done every quest , every raid, have played every class.

I loved vanilla and tbc but when I played it it was brand new, it was something completely different to what I have played. Wow was the most immersive game I have ever played with incredible lore and I was a wc geek. So there were a lot of things going on for it. I was also in high school for the whole of vanilla and tbc and some of wotlk. I could do the insane raiding and pvpving but not anymore.

Also one big thing many people forget is that part of the wonder of a new world is the ideas and expectations where that world is going to go in the future. However this is completely lost on these progression servers.

Wow during vanilla and tbc was not special because of its raiding or slow progression. It was everything else that made it one of the best MMORPGS I have ever played and in my opinion the most memorable gaming experience.

Terrible poll options. Early WOW was worse than current WOW, so my vote is no, but without the stupid negativity towards WOW. I fully plan on resubbing at some point (probably the next expansion>)

What type of QoL changes?  If you mean like UI tweaks and minor stuff sure?  But if you mean like LFG or raid finder than HELL no.
  • PhryPhry Member LegendaryPosts: 11,004
Not enough options in the poll, i will play WoW again, but, time locked servers, not so much, i am not even all that interested in vanilla WoW either.

All they have to do is make a server version of each expansion and let the players chose which expansion time frame they want to play in. Charge $15 for a server transfer for when and if a player wants to move to a new expansion and BAM, make 1 trillion dollars.

I can't live without the DK class or transmogs. My answer is yes if those two aspects are included.

Anything pre-WoD is fine by me.

edit: pretty cool that the poll answers show up in our posts now.

I agree with this. It would be more interesting this way.

EQ and EQ2 seem to have it right.  I don't see why it couldn't work

I was thinking more of game altering mechanics for quality of life stuff, like group and raid finder.

Well, what I had in mind for QoL was UI improvements and such not game altering things like the dungeon finder. If QoL = LFD, LFR, etc then my vote would be option 1.

I tried to make a new thread with a poll but didn't see any button to add a poll.  Does it only show up after you make the thread, or what?
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

As long as they dont bring back the boring open world pve from pre cata im OK. It was way too grindy and insipid. Now it feels more story driven so whenever i resub i enjoy it more.

They can add classic WoW raids and pvp, i dont care about that. But open world pve is fine where it is today (except for phasing).

    Just my opinion.

Also, from what ive read, it looks like during classic WoW Blizz had some raids closed behind doors and during the world first race everyone would gather up waiting for Blizz to open it. I would love to experience that with my own eyes in game, instead of using silly teleports. I think thats the only thing i would want from classic WoW.

1 month ago , i would vote yes!!!! , but after playing Eq2 TLS ....im not sure about it ....and i really wanted a eq2 vanilla server but ugh...

There are a lot of  things from Vanilla that I liked. There were also a lot that were problematic.. ie: Hunter pet pathing.. If they could fix the issues associated with Vanilla I would play it

Not enough options in the poll.. The choices are basically "all-or-nothing" with no middle ground..

I already played WOW when it was time locked and the game pushed me out during TBC.  I see no need to relive the past. Whats done is done. I have moved on and have no need to ever go back to it.  Why would I want to do the same thing I was doing a decade ago.  Seems silly to me.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Still, way to soon for a progression server.  Need about 3-5 more expacks before it's viable to do.  I think this poll is really about trying to get some of the classic stuff back.  Which is fine, but we don't need a "progression" server to do that, we need Blizzard stop homogenizing, but they seem to be addressing this in Legion, I hope.

I don't know, open pve questing never bothered me. There were a lot of awesome storylines in vanilla - e.g. Tons in dusk wood, burning steppes, silithus etc.

Raids were not closed behind doors. The only exception was Gates of Ahn Quiraj, that one required a one time world event and legendary quest chain. It was the one and only time when WoW felt like something that was beyond just a simple game. That event is what I thought mmos would be all about with massive scale events which permanently alter the world. Throw in some ancient mysteries and it was just brilliant.

But that was just only for an extremely short period of time and only for 1 raid. Vast majority of players never saw it.
