Nothing in the cash shop that's game breaking. I've bought a lot of stuff from the cash shop but did not spend one irl cent. I just trade game money for diamonds. Gives a side goal since I'm not interested in Ascended Gear. I can buy more chars or an instrument. The game hands out boosters for free left and right as you play.

You do not need anything in the cash shop, you get plenty already, you may buy some cosmetics and buy maybe one or 2 extra bag slots for your favorite crafter thats it really. Maybe a char slot if your sharing your account with family or something.
Ok so I just got 2 RMT whispers from different accounts but obviously belonging to the same company. The first gold selling spam I received in many months, just a few days after the game went f2p.
I checked those accounts and the characters didn't even bother to come out of the Defense of Shaemoor instance.
The limitation of needing a certain level to enter the cities Whisper limit of one whisper every 30 seconds Registering accounts with your cell
None of these features will ever provide the same level of defense that the b2p model gave us.

I think that's right, and might be a big downside of the F2P model. Regardless of bots, I've been noticing tons of people who are there not to play, but simply to mess around.
Perhaps it's too soon to judge though. In a couple of months these people will hopefully move on to flashier, newer F2P games.

If you were whispered by someone in the tutorial area, and not being in the same tutorial area, that player was not on a free account, you can't even whisper people in the same zone, unless they are also in the exact same instance of said zone without you having them on your friend list AND vice versa. I know I tried.
Also Gold seller spam has been happening all the time, way before f2p and way after the massive banwave and for the most part now extinction of bot trains. Standing around afk/idle in DR just a month ago I probably averaged a gold seller advert once an hour (usually in bursts of 2-10 in one day then completely silent most others.)
Either gold sellers have access to some very cheap keys, are able to fake em or they are using hacked accounts to advertise, I'm betting most of it on the latter.

Yeah, I gotten goldspam 2 whispers the last 2 months, and none since the F2P started. It might very well be that gold spamm whispers have or will go up but there is no way telling that already. There have been times before when I have gotten many whispers in the same weekend and then nothing for several months so you can't base anything just on a few days, maybe some new site opens up or maybe there just been some bans, it affect the spams.
But like it or not, the only way to get rid of goldspammers 100% is when a game does terrible. Ill bet Wildstars gold spammers have been very silent the last few months....
Yea and they still want to call it B2P what a joke , its free to play now with download content that they want to call an expansion to trick you all and get ya to fork over $50.00 and then also have ya spend money in the cash shop on fluff. Enjoy..
I get stuff from the gem store, I don't spend money on it...maybe you need to learn how to convert gold to gems so you can get stuff from the store without spending cash? Also wow people still complaining about spending cash for fluff, before it was omg pay to win because you can get huge advantage in the cash shop...now omg you have to spend money to get fluff from the store! Geezus
Lol I got used to Players like yourself that think fluff is OK in MMOs preaching the great and wonderous awesomeness of cash shops and the fluff they sell, and I stopped complaining about it. I figure you all enjoy that stuff so who am I to tell you you can't.
May I suggest to you that it might be wise to get used to the idea that some of us will NEVER accept the cash shops and their fluff and so we avoid it?

Fair is fair after all.
Most games have burnt people in the Cash Shop department. Some people have gambling/shopping addictions and so Cash Shops hurt them. If you know you are susceptible you should avoid all games with any kind of Cash Shop including GW2. For the rest of us it can be noted that GW2 Cash Shop is not burdening because you can pay with GAME MONEY and not your real life cash.
I hate it to break it to you guys but every mmorpg has tools to rush to endgame, all that matters is if you choose to or not, sadly players will always have the ability to rush to end game and eso has not done it yet I am sure they will but really it is just an option for players who played the same content over and over.

Not just the games it's the players who take the time to create power leveling guides. These cats brag about how fast it took them to hit max level. ESO has them too.
I was never into Guild Wars but I made a new char and so far I'm enjoying the game. As for the pay to win aspect I'm just not sure. I'm too much of a noob to make a comment pertaining to this game. What I can say is I like the game so far and will continue playing. I spend far too much money on games but I am contemplating upgrading my free account. Any tips or advice from some GW2 aficionados would be appreciated. I could care less about the OP class or whats the best this or that. I gave that philosophy up years ago. I play for fun nowadays. Only gripe I have is my bag space seems small.

Tell me where i said you HAVE to pay money in the store? Learn to read .
Free players have "Less storage", "subtle economy restrictions", can only start a whisper every 30 seconds, and can't access WvW until level 60 (among other restrictions). Feels a lot like other F2P conversion MMOs, and not surprising, considering the ever more present cash shop.
Cash shop isn't bad at all in GW2 the restrictions aren't that bad for newcomers and Gw2 a game that has content wherever you go.. it's really worth the time to check it out.
Personally I do not understand why they just do not do free trials, I was actually going to buy this after eso but I wont now unless there is a good sale.
Free trials are generally more of a hassle to the company, and do not provide as good results. This is why companies go for the low cost/high return option of F2P.
Explain, tsw has 3 day trial all the time, final fantasy has a 14 day free trial, wildstar had a 14 day free trial, back in the earlier days of eq2 they had a 14 day trial and so did many others, I do not think you really know it is or not they would not be doing these if it was such a hassle.
They did have free trials, this a new marketing move.

One of the restrictions of the free accounts is only 1 starting backpack (20 slots) + 2 bag slots.
If you learn Armorsmith, Tailor or Leatherworker, you can craft 8 slot bags straight way. Then you have 12, 15, 18 and 20 slot bags later on.
Remember that you can send any crafting materials to your bank storage by just pressing the cog symbol on your inventory and select deposit all crafting materials. (250 slots for each of the crafting materials).
If you upgrade your account you get 3 extra slot bags for each character.
I would recommend avoiding the going from heart to heart as that will soon become dull. There are a lot of stuff off the beaten path, including jumping puzzles and some open world mini dungeons.
Once you finish some Dynamic Event linger for a little bit as some of them are chains of Dynamic Events that actually have some interesting stories (if you catch them from the beginning).
Minor sigil of bloodlust and minor sigil of speed allow you to do decent damage and travel decently fast while getting xp from the random mobs you kill to trigger the speed sigil.
Food and utility (potions, sharpening stones, oils and tuning crystals) will also give decent boosts and increase your xp gain.
Currently playing: GW2 Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders

This is what I am talking about!
When people say something about not having a certain feature available to them and awesome cats like @Gaia_Hunter roll out like Capt. Save The Ho and present to you a wonderful solution.....TAKE IT! Don't be that guy....or girl.
Now maybe that does not have the unbalancing effect I think it does, but the buff potions are already gameplay breaking in my eyes.
I have a lot of problems with how the game is being managed lately but that claim of an inbalance because of exp buffs is hilarious. Any new player can reach max level within a week if they grind hard - a month if they go slow and casual. Any vet can create a new character and hit max level within a minute from having stacked up these: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tome_of_Knowledge I have 300 of those and don't know what to do with them. Most people farmed them to turn the new class to max level instantly once it arrives.
And the pvp reward track bonus - the reward track gives you armor and weapons of specific skins which can't be sold. How is that game breaking?
MMOs have for ages been too easy to level up, that means XP potions etc should not be there, not that having them does not have much effect. In means the reason for them being there is for the 'paying cash to top level gamer'.
Apart from that, it was good to hear from the other poster that a lot of what I saw in the cash shop was animations not actual powers or abilities. Bring on all the skins and animations they want, that's what cash shops should be about.
Also the fact they are separating out PvP from PvE is always good to see, not doing that is a classic old mistake that many new MMOs are still making after all these years.
