Would you like to have a stronger connection with your character..
or..
rather have a stronger connection with the other characters around you
..in any MMORPG that you're playing?

Imagine having some kind of VR tool next to your mouse and keyboard that really gives you the sensation of being part of your character or that brings you closer (personalizes) to the other characters around you.

By other characters around you, do you mean NPCs or players?

I'm not sure how you could feel more physically strongly connected to other characters without already feeling physically strongly connected to your own character, because you have to physically interact with other characters through your own character.  If you can't feel your own hand, how can you feel your hand touching their arm?
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

The porn industry is probably working on that right now.

@sunandshadow I get what you're saying. First of all, I ment the interaction with other players around you. When cooperating, trust and communication play an important role, so I thought wouldn't it be cool if this interaction between the cooperating players could be improved and personalized. This is what I ment with the characters around you and what I actually intended to say was to improve the social interaction between the players while cooperating.

So let's rephrase: what do you think is more desirable?

To make the way of interacting with your own character more realistic (i.e. by means of vibration, hand gestures and physical interactions)

    or..

To strengthen the emotional connection with the other players that you cooperate with and thereby improve the sense of cooperation (i.e. by means of a special computer mouse that allows players to communicate with each other my means of squeezing/pressing/pushing.. in their own physical group language. You'd really physically feel the other players communicating with you)

Silly headgear reminds me of 3d TVs, it is a silly phase that makes everyone involved look like an arse and removes you from any meaningful interaction with your mates.  It is arsehattery of the highest order.  People will buy silly headsets and play 3d, and then realise they are impractical and regret their purchase. Much like the epic morons who bought 3d Tvs and realised they could no longer interact with their mates or make a cup of fucking tea without missing huge chunks of movies.

These people are hipster morons and they deserve to lose their money on idiocy.

So in answer to your question... I would like to play with people without a stupid headset.

It's impossible unless you want to become matrix's battery .
I'm fine with how the old generation MMORPG "connect" people and don't need VR to connect with some GIRL .

If it must be one or the other, I'd have to choose a stronger connection to the characters around me.  To me, game worlds feel more alive if the characters around me seem more involved within the game world.  With games giving you so many character slots, and the ease of leveling, I never really have that strong a connection with any character. At least, not since original EQ.

And what if you're playing alone and your friends are on the other side of world?

And by the way.. I never said anything about a headset or something else that distracts you significantly. It should be an addition, not a restriction.

It's not about a need to connect, but I thought of it more being like an enrichment of the contact between the players. You wouldn't want that?

Could you tell me what you found so appealing in EQ in terms of connecting with other characters?

    Do it sound good ?
There are limited how much reality you should put in virtual and touch/feel is among the must ban features , smell and taste also in the ban too .

Because of the way the game was designed (long leveling process along with an open world grind), you were pretty much forced to group and get to know other player characters.  This also gave me a stronger connection to my own in game characters because of the time invested and relationships made.

In first person perspective, I would greatly prefer better connection to my own character.  More correctly stated, more connection to the world around my character.

The closest I can imagine to this would be a stereo-optical HMD with head tracker* and HDR surround headphones with a powered sub-woofer for sub-sonic vibrations.

The game would need full UI in HUD, and something for controls other than keyboard-mouse (since you couldn't see the keyboard).  Maybe trackball + mouse, with a pulldown virtual keyboard in UI.

    * controls character neck and view vector.

Oke cool and what do you consider as key elements in that? Would you have any additional ideas how that can be achieved?

I'd very much like to hear your ideas on the subject.

I studied VR years ago (15 or more) as a hobby and messed with a little myself.  Tech was really weak then compared to now, and the gear pricey.  Resolution in my HMD is only 640 x 480, and it's not even 3D.
